The comical FPS with a talking gun High on Life has been shadow-dropped onto PS5, PS4 at a price of £49.99 / $59.99. It's available to download now, marking a pretty high-profile port that's come with literally no marketing whatsoever. The announcement seems to have been made at a San Diego Comic-Con panel, but Sony hasn't said anything about it and the only trailer available comes out of developer Squanch Games. Check it out above.
High on Life debuted on Xbox Series X|S and PC with an Xbox Game Pass release, but there's no sign of the PS5, PS4 port making its way to PS Plus Extra — at least at launch. If you want to play it now, that'll be £49.99 / $59.99. There's only a digital version available on the PS Store for now. "Humanity is being threatened by an alien cartel who wants to use them as drugs. It’s up to you to rescue and partner with charismatic, talking guns, take down Garmantuous and his gang, and save the world!"
Furthermore, some paid DLC named High on Knife was also announced for the game overnight. It's not known whether the PS5, PS4 versions will be treated to this at the same time as the Xbox Series X|S and PC editions, but it's due out later this year. Will you be playing High on Life on PS5, PS4? Let us know in the comments below.

Holy heck that's a steep price. Will wait for a sale
@AFCC yeah I was expecting more of a budget price for this too… I’ll wait for a sale and won’t want to pay more than £20.00.
I thought High on Knife was announced weeks ago at the Xbox showcase?
Shadow dropped with no marketing, no trailer on the playstation youtube and priced at £50 😬
This game is going to flop, especially with the mixed reviews it was getting on gamepass and poor metacritic rating.
High on Price
@Angelus3K It was announced at the Xbox show. The DLC will be coming to all platforms, including PlayStation, this fall according to the new press release for this.
Yeah will be a sale fo me to try on PS5. Was expecting it to be much cheaper
Maybe its not being promoted/marketed due to Justin Roiland being charged with domestic abuse.
£50 for PS4 version hmmm no thanks
I enjoyed the game on gamepass but the price is a bit steep on PlayStation. I would wait for a sale to be honest. Good game tho
Tried this on GamePass a few months ago. It would have ‘best been left on Xbox’. Ugly graphics, stupid story, and about as funny as a heart attack.
Release on game pass, but then want full price from playstation users. Unless it's a game I really want life payday 3, I'll never pay full price for a game that does that.
I wonder if the lack of trailer or announcement was Xbox’s doing.
Either way, I think now i’ll try this on GamePass and if its good, i’ll get it on PS5 for the trophies 🙌🏻
Honestly, a terrible game that managed to achieve some success due to Justin Roiland fans and GP release. Can't see somebody paying actual money to own it.
It's just not very fun (which every "game" should be)
If anyone is interest, don’t buy at full, its not worth it. Its very mediocre at best and will probably see steep discounts in coming months or even go on extrA
This is worth £20 max the humour was hit and miss for me and the gameplay was pretty repetitive i also had quite a lot of bugs that blocked progress and had to reload multiple times on different missions even after the patches that supposedly fixed it.
I don't see why there is so much about Game Pass here. Of course you can try it as part of a Subscription, but if you want to 'own' it, you still have to buy. Its 'free' to try for as long as it remains in Game Pass but as soon as it leaves, you no-longer can play the game unless you 'buy' it.
As for 'cost' - it is 'cheaper' than the £70 being asked by other Games. If you don't think its 'worth' it, wait for a sale or don't bother playing. I got to 'try' it on GP to know it wasn't 'worth' buying from my perspective at any cost as I don't enjoy the humour...
I 'tried' it on Xbox (thanks to Game Pass) but only because it was on Game Pass, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered at all. I'm sure they got 'some' money from me from my Sub money, but they were never gonna get a 'sale' as I can't stand the Humour or Voices.
GP is like being a member of a Library where you can borrow 'Books/Games' for a time but can have access removed leaving you no choice but to buy IF you want to keep playing - even if you remain Subbed to Game Pass...
$60 is way too much for this game. I’d put the max price at about $30.
Played it through GP and i did not like it at all.
Honestly not worth £9.99.
You would be crazy to pay £50 for it
"Furthersome"?
Well at least xbox players got to play for what it was worth. 🤣
It needs a PSVR2 version.
I was expecting this to be £20 or £30 max. I'll wait till it's under £20 as heard it's shallow
@Cordyceps And even at that price, I only played an hour or so before I could take no more and haven't returned...
Each to their own - If you like the R&M style voices and 'humour', as well as games from the PS3/360 era - very much more 'arcade FPS', its 'OK' but the voices and humour irritated me too much.
@Vorflynn be was cleared but let's not let that fact get in the way. He's been sacked from his own shows and game company despite having charges dropped. In 2023 your guilty of anything your accused of even if found innocent or cleared. Sounds like 1923 behaviour to me
When I saw the price I said something that Justin would be proud of.
I too was expecting psvr after Trover saves the universe which was pretty good but I had to mute Justin after a while as it is just too grating.
Without VR I won't be playing this at any price
Played on Xbox, novelty wore off pretty quick, don't waste your money....
I thought PlayStation gamers liked to support devs and pay for their games… this is the same price it is listed for at Steam, and the game sold very well there despite being on GamePass.
Why would anyone expect $20 price tag when the game costs $60 on Steam and Xbox?
Its not worth that price tag. I'd advise everyone to wait for a sale.
High on Price! (I was beaten!)
Not for me, think I’ll pass
I grabbed it during the Steam sale for the Steam Deck, and it's okay. It's " Deck Verified"which I think is a stretch.
I think it's worth 30, full price worthy it is not.
Wouldn’t put it past MS to have had them sign a deal promising no promotion for the PS5 version.
This is a really weird shadow drop. Even Scorn and Powerwash Simulator that came to PS about a year after got a bit of marketing from PS before release. Intrigued enough to want to try it for myself but only on a massive discount, most likely in 2025
@Vorflynn Um he was cleared from all that quite awhile ago. Of course not before the terrible cancel culture got rid of all his work. People declared him guilty over someone just saying something without any proof.
@PSfan4Life22 that's the world we live in now. People who never met him and not knowing the facts scream the loudest and companies cave in.
The Metacritic rating maybe low, @UltimateOtaku91, but many consider the Reviewers to be out of touch with the general consensus. The Metacritic rating is based on 35 reviews on the PC giving it a 69, and 67 score on the Xbox based on 48 reviews.
However, if you take a look at Steam, it is very well received. It has a Very Positive review score of 89% based on 10,158 reviews. People on Steam are never shy about giving a poor review where it is necessary, but when 83 professional critics give the game an average score of 68, and more than 10,000 people say it's worth an 89, it shows that someone somewhere got it wrong.
I'm not saying the game is worthy of peoples time. Indeed, I haven't played it myself. However, I have always preferred a game to be reviewed by the average gamer, than professional critics because you get a much larger number of people reviewing it that way...
@meistergeister
Hey there Redd Foxx made heart attacks funny on Sanford and Son.
@Tharsman I guess now it’s out and it’s a very hit and miss game on your humour. People expected it to be more around the £35 price and not almost full AAA pricing (bearing in mind you could find games like FF16 for £55) for a rather average game.
@UltimateOtaku91 I thought the game was great I guess it depends on if you like rick and Morty or not
@number1024 it's that price on Xbox and steam too
@meistergeister it's on pc too
@Vorflynn suspect this is the reason. I think sometimes you can skirt controversy fairly without a big pushback but is studio made the game, he wrote it and he's voicing a significant amount of the characters also. Just hard to promote it without tacitly mentioning his role in it. A shadow drop is the correct move
@Fiendish-Beaver But the majority of those Steam reviews are probably from diehard Rick and Morty fans.
Have to agree on the price being steep. Also Torchwood did the the whole using humans as drugs better (i know its just children in that, not humanity but point still stands lol)
A single player game which is feature complete and if you are into the humour is great. (The first few hours do drag though with limited abilities)
But we want it for £20.
No wonder Sony is full speed ahead gaas. Current gen gamers are for too tight except for gacha and fifa players.
Oooooof $60 price tag? Yeah, that's a bit steep.
Yo dudes, if you're a huge fan of rick&morty and other creations by justin and the team, this will be right up your alley. I am and I played it via GP and finished it.
The game was already on GP, sold on PC and any money on PS they get will be an extra, there's no flopping here.
Would I have bought the game had it not been on GP? As a huge fan, yes, I absolutely would. Would I have bought it day1 at full price? Nope. But at 50% off? yeah man, the dude abides.
That's entirely possible, @MrMagic, but that would then suggest that no one other than such fans bought the game, which is highly unlikely. However, if we follow that logic, isn't it just as possible that the 80 odd professional Reviewers had absolutely no sense of humour at all? I would tend to follow the vast majority in these circumstances, particularly as we all know that those that are most likely to review something (no matter what it may be) are likely to be the ones that review something negatively, as people are more likely to complain that praise.
As I say, I have no skin in the game whatsoever, as I have not played the game at all...
@Fiendish-Beaver This is why I generally don’t pay attention to professional critics. The issue is that a lot professional reviews are done by people who don’t/didn’t want to review the game in the first place, and was just handed the project by their supervisors.
With High on Life having a humor style and a particularly artistic that lot of people don’t like. That could lead to poor reviews if not reviewed by some who enjoy it. As the actual moment to moment gameplay isn’t all that.
It’s a really good fun game but that’s a very high price
Pricey! Of all the 3 Xbox exclusives available, I still want Sunset Overdrive!
This showed on PSNP a few days ago.
This was honestly one of the worst games I've ever experienced.
Played it, liked it, it’s worth around 30$.
I had fun playing it on GP, at least first 10 minutes
One of the most divisive games I have played in years. Personally I thought it was truly AWFUL, with a few redeeming qualities, and wouldn't recommend it for a tenner. £50??? LMAO
Yet it was the most played single player game on Game Pass of all time, clearly many people liked it. As it's so divisive it's a perfect fit for a demo, or a subscription service imho.
If you want a laugh go and read Pure Xbox's 4/10 review.
@UltimateOtaku91 I think it's one of those games that is so divisive the scores don't really matter. (Not that they ever matter as much as we think).
FWIW it gets a 89% very positive on Steam from over 10,000 reviews and a 7.9 user score on Metacritic on XSX. MANY people really like it.
Personally I thought it was woeful, but that's fine, room for many different opinions. £50 does seem steep, but I think it will do just fine!
I immediately bought it when I realized it was released. I am a big fan of the humor and heard the game was a metroidvania FPS. I do not regret anything, enjoying so far.
@Fiendish-Beaver Not really it didn't score a hundred percent on the steam reviews that's why I said majority, diehard fans could have just pushed that number artificially high. Yeah there could be a similar situation with the professional reviewers, the majority of them may not be fans of that kind of humour but they are paid to try to be as unbiased as possible, that being said I wouldn't be surprised if a fair score is somewhere in-between the two.
Like I say, @MrMagic, I've not actually played the game myself. I think it is probably one of those games that is quite marmite, and best experienced for yourself (if that's what you want to do) rather than rely on the opinions of others. Personally, if I like the look of a game, what others say only has a small bearing on whether I play it or not. This game is not a priority for me, but maybe at some point I'll give it a go...
Terrible game supporting a terrible human being. Save yourselves the bother, I felt robbed downloading it for no extra cost on Gamepass!
@number1024 your be surprised how many people buy a game that's on gamepass or after I have no idea why never made sense to me
Would be great on PSVR2 but cant see the dev doing it with their ties to MS.
@number1024 there have been multiple articles about how games being on gamepass has increased their sales i remember the devs from the game descender saying their sales tripped once they put the game on game pass. i really dont understand why.
"If I take the month before we went into Game Pass, and compared it to sales of the game last week, we're now selling around 5 times as many units each week as pre-Game Pass, on a weekly basis
Since we went into Game Pass, our total Xbox sales have TRIPLED"
