Media Molecule's PS4 exclusive create-'em-up, Dreams, is having a bit of a moment right now. Not only has the developer revealed Tren — its next original game within Dreams, which you can read more about through the link — it's also been announced the title will be joining PS Plus Essential's lineup for August. As it turns out, that's not quite everything.
In addition to joining PS Plus Essential next month, Dreams is also being added to the PS Plus Extra game catalogue. This means the game will be available for all subscribers to claim for one month, and then will remain part of the larger collection for members on Extra or Premium tiers. In short, the barrier to entry has been reduced to near zero.
Dreams will be available on PS Plus Essential starting on 1st August — which is also when Tren launches — and will remain on the rotation until 4th September. However, it will also join PS Plus Extra's game catalogue starting on 15th August, and will be available to members there for the foreseeable.
Will you be checking out Dreams on PS Plus in August? Let us know in the comments section below.

Why did they wait this long to do this? Dreams could've used all this support ages ago 😂
Honestly should’ve been day 1 with PS+ all tiers when they made the new tiers, as well as that PS package that came with the PS5. Sony could’ve given this game life, but instead they let it go into hospice….
I freaking called it in the comments section on the ps plus August title reveal article lol
Question. Why would you wait to claim it later when it hits Extra if it hits Essential anyway and earlier? You already have access to Essential if you have Extra so you might as well claim it for Essential instead so that you have access to it even if it gets pulled from Extra later down the line...
Am I missing something?
@Korgon Not everyone is diligent about claiming their Essential games every month, it coming to Extra too will allow more people to play it. Especially in a summer month when people are away.
P.S. I'm sure there was a figure someone in a leak that less than half the PS+ games are claimed, but google isn't helping me out.
@Americansamurai1
You did. First thing I thought when I saw the headline, lol.
Dreams should have been built into the PS5 free for everyone with a crossplay/share version for PC alongside it. Dreams is incredible but Sony wasted it.
If anyone's interested they have their own website for the game which allows you to browse people's creations and add them to your play list for when you next play the game. You can also see the weekly staff picks.

@themightyant I suppose what you say makes sense but like @Korgon I don’t quite understand it either. They aren’t separate things like PS+ and PSNow, if you are paying extra for Extra, or Premium, then you already have all of the Essential games. If Nintendo starts announcing games are coming to NO on the first of the month then the Expansion Pass on the 15th my brain is going into cardiac arrest.😂
@themightyant
Really? Huh I guess that makes some sense. That's weird people don't claim those as much considering it's literally a few free games your passing up on every month but I guess if you don't care, you don't care.
This is great but I'm really looking forward to playing PGA Tour golf
I still don't know...
@rjejr But you have to CLAIM the essential games. Reality is many don't. Having it on Extra, presumably for many months/years/'forever' just gives a wider group of people the chance to play it.
@Korgon Some forget, they're not all enthusiasts like us. Others aren't too fussed, they mostly have PS+ for online.
Ultimately it's just more choice. Just astounded they didn't do this 1 or 2 years ago.
@themightyant Oh I suppose it makes sense, Ess is for 1 month only, Extra is as long as they want it on there to play, at least I think it is, but the timing seems odd is all. As you said, Ess should have been like 2 years ago, Extra a year ago when ti was Now, same month looks weird. 🤷♂️
Giving away a low price unsupported game within which creators can't profit from their own creations. Gee that's really nice of Sony.
@Korgon Primarily what you're missing, I think, is someone who buys a Playstation in September and signs up for Plus for the first time then should still be able to get it if they sign up for Extra or higher.
Or someone who just doesn't have Plus could sign up any time in September or beyond (at least as long as it's still in Extra) and play it then.
But given it's been down to $10 and less, anybody who really wanted it has it by now. I picked it up, got lost in trash stuff that wasn't fun, and never got back to it to find the hidden treasures I suspect are there.
@RobN
That is a good point. I didn't think about folks maybe just getting a PS5 for the first time after it expires. Fair enough.
I half agree with the endless parade of “Dreams should have always been free” comments, but only the play portion. Having a low cost barrier to entry for the creation section kept out the riff-raff and made sure that Mm didn’t have to waste money funding a department of dong removal.
Ole double dipping Sony smh.
Really saddens me that it's just now that Sony is fully acknowledging the game. At this point, what does it gotta take to finally convince them to port the game to PS5 and PSVR2? The latter especially.
I think it would be cool if they released Tren (new Train game) on the PlayStation store and use it to advertise Dreams and make a few dollars for Media Molecule and drum up support for a PS5 and maybe a PC version.
PS5 version is such a missed opportunity. The possibility of vastly larger worlds and assets. Faster storage and more RAM might even eliminate the limit thermometer altogether.
@rjejr it makes sense. For those, who forgot to redeem ps plus free games and also for all, who will buy console and/or ps plus later.
I have Dreams from beta and it's really great app. It's a pitty Sony couldnt market it more aggressive. Because it thrives and falls with community. Should have been ps5 free long ago. Also should get ps5 upgrade long ago. It's a pitty. Also should have true marketplace long ago. So much wasted potential!
@themightyant Good observation there about forgetting to claim Essentials games. Loads of my mates forget to add games to their library. (That said, none if them have premium, so the point about Dreams is moot.) It does beg the question why Essentials games are not just added automatically.
Re the debate about less than half of people claim their monthly games; I always “add to library”, but don’t necessarily download them. Even if I already have the physical version of a game, I always ATL the digital version just in case. I wish Xbox would add the ATL option instead of forcing you to download the game(s) to claim them.

Because the cost of these deals are often based around how many will claim and/or play the games. If more people claim them on average the cost Sony pays for each game will go up. Which ultimately would either mean the price of the sub goes up or the quality of games goes down. Eventually we pay for it.
I think most people here would be surprised how large a percentage DON'T claim the games frequently. Reality is many don't care, or aren't that aware, they only want online initially.
The best boost Dreams could have gotten was if it had been a free giveaway early in the pandemic. Like in that "play at home" initiative, except many months earlier.
Too little too later unfortunately.
Sony should have packed this in with every PS5 along with Astro.
Who knows, it might have actually taken off at that point.
Now.... even if it is a huge success, it is too late.
Didn’t dreams just announce it was ending all support and was effectively over? Or did I dream it?
@fybyfyby "ps5 upgrade long ago"
Not having a native PS5 version has always struck me as really odd.
@DennisReynolds This! Unbelievable that Sony gave Dreams the treatment that it did. There are certainly ways to expand it, although it probably isn't very profitable right ftom the start. Making it PC compatible, bring it to PS5/PSVR 2 and put it on Plus are all things Sony could have done long ago. Sony doesn't care about the innovation and creativity it endorses, something that takes time and proper marketing to fully reach it's potential. If the playerbase wasn't sufficient they just could have expanded it to PS5 and PC. That could have helped, at least a little. Sony reminds me of Google here, not profitable enough after two years? Kill it, even if it's unique, creative, artistic and(therefore) undoubtly hard to market. I understand that it's business but it's a thoughtful alternative to the flood of one-dimensional, predictable and mentally unchallenging money generators like CoD, FiFA(or whatever the hell it's called now), and Assassins Creed. I'm dissapointed. In Dreams' small community, the average *****-for-brains 'gamer' that refuses to embrace new and innovative products(see VR to a lesser extend) and Sony's relentless business strategies. Just because stuff is niche and can't compete with the mainstream in terms of profit doesn't mean there is no interest and audience for it.
