Catching a glimpse of a Treasure Goblin has long been a hype moment in the Diablo games, as slaughtering the poor little bugger before it escapes results in a shower of loot. However, in Diablo 4, hunting a Treasure Goblin typically isn't as exciting as it should be — and that's primarily because the loot that they drop tends to be rather stale.
But that's thankfully set to change with the title's next update. Patch 1.1.1, which is set to drop next week on the 8th August, will make it so that killing a Treasure Goblin nets you a guaranteed legendary item. In other words, chasing one of the blighters down should be a better use of your time.
"When you don't get a Legendary item from something called a 'Treasure Goblin', that can feel bad," admitted associate director Joseph Piepiora during the most recent developer livestream. Piepiora went on to confirm that aforementioned adjustment.
Bit by bit, it feels like Blizzard is trying to update Diablo 4 for the better. Treasure Goblins are obviously just one small part of the overall experience, but one of the main criticisms we see from players is that the game just isn't as rewarding as it should be. Hopefully this is another small step in the right direction.
Do you bother killing Treasure Goblins in Diablo 4? Maybe you do it for the sport, rather than the loot? Try to keep the gory details to a minimum in the comments section below.

Too bad I already stopped playing and I’m pretty much over it.
"Bit by bit, it feels like Blizzard is trying to update Diablo 4 for the better."
I mean, its ActBlizz, they're one of the forerunners of Release it broken and fix it later.
@Cordyceps They are hard to kill at times and run you into mobs. Yet i still chase them. Good to see them getting an update. Action RPG’s are all about tweaking and changing the balancing as players find ways to break the numbers in their favor. The game wasn’t released broken.
I'm waiting for the patch to jump back in. I still try and kill them. But my damage over time build, struggles to kill them.
Rogue FTW! Stun, poison, and turn on the burners to keep up. Rinse, repeat.
Oh good more trash items that always seem to be 100 levels lower than what im wearing
@Indefinable I hear ya. I’ve been wearing the same setup since 1996.
@HonestHick I'm pretty sure you knew exactly what I meant and you're just being pedantic, but I prefer my games to be complete "out of the box". I'm not into the masochism that comes with constant nerfing, but I won't kinkshame.
@HonestHick i'm with you on this subject. I love the endless grind and i've just unlocked world tier 3. Just started a hardcore rogue build in the seasonal game. So much fun...so little time 🤣
@Cordyceps i know what you mean but something that gamers do and often forget is while we say we want complete games out the box and praise games we like like say horizon Forbidden west. That was hardly complete out of the box. GT7 etc etc. Diablo is a balancing act for years and years. It’s the nature of the game and makes it more fun. A game that was broken is something like a Cyberpunk, that was not in a good launch shape, and Diablo 4 was. Not trying to be rude, just saying many games in different genres did way worse than an action RPG that will have constant shifts in power and enemy density.
@Cordyceps as @HonestHick said, the game wasn’t close to broken at launch. It’s a live service game, it will live or die through continued support and tweaking such as this. It won’t all be home runs, and naysayers like yourself will always be there on the sideline to scoff and say “I told you so” (btw everyone loves I told you so, so definitely do that a lot) every time it stumbles, but providing the general trajectory is upwards from launch reasonable people will be satisfied.
That last patch pretty much killed me and my friends playing of it, we went from playing every night and weekends to just abandoning it after playing post patch. Cant see any of us going back to it for quite a while!
@Northern_munkey i have 4 level 50’s, no hardcore yet. But do want to tackle that soon. I have barely got to play World tier 3 much cause once i get to it, i grind out the other class. Happy to see you enjoying it. Games are just meant to be fun and if they ain’t for some players, move onto something that is. 😊
I have around 100 hours on D4 and seen maybe 5 treasure gobblins??? That's first problem. 3 of them just disappeared in a few seconds (not run away, just vanish). That's second problem. 1 was almost killed, than run away and last one was killed (dropped legendary ring, if I mention 95% of all my legendary drops is a ring, I was not happy at all)
Treasure goblins haven’t shown up as often as they did back in Diablo III, and Robert is right; the loot has been underwhelming. Three cheers for bigger booty! 😁
@djlard Yeah, hearing a TG somewhere off screen and not having it show up on your map, followed by running around trying to find it only to find a trail of gold where it was just feels bad.
I haven't counted but don't feel like I've come across too many TGs in the 100-something hours I've played through the story, unlocking all the map, getting all the altars, etc. Feels like I came across and killed more during the beta than I have in the full game!
I’m playing Diablo 1 at the minute actually and haven’t seen ANY bloody treasure goblins. Although maybe they are there in amongst the mess of pixels.
@kyleforrester87 Maybe they are all in Tavern of the Rising Sun playing that game "Who will steal tavern sign" ?
@HonestHick @kyleforrester87 Yeah, I totally get that and I wasn't actually trying to attack the game itself, I was just taking shots at blizzard because they are kind of one of the first companies to do the patch as you go model. But as you said it's an online always game and that's a necessity.
I kind of misspoke and meant to say something like Drop it now and patch it later not release it broken so that's on me.
The actual game itself is great, up to the point where you hit max level. I personally don’t feel there is enough past that to keep people interested. Once I hit 100 my interest waned quickly.
I have no regrets about playing it, throughly enjoyed my time with it. Just needs more interesting things to do at max level. This kind of update is much needed but isn’t an attention keeper.
@kyleforrester87 @Cordyceps no biggie buddy 😊 , Diablo is also a game where they give us lots of toy’s and builds to make to try and break the damage and end game. So that is always getting tweaks. Throw in just general refinements and bug fixes and the game will see lots of updates. There is no pay for power in the game and everything for sale is just cosmetic. I am really happy with D4. Red Dead Redemption and Diablo are in my top 5 if not 3 all time franchises so I might be a little bias, but generally speaking i just know the genre well cause i love it so much and i know path of exile and others get loads of tweaks. 😊
@HonestHick agreed. Diablo 3,path of exile, torch light 2,destiny 2 and world of warcraft all get regular updates addressing balancing etc. Its the nature of the game and any self respecting diablo fan will already know this before embarking on their endless grind. I grew up playing gauntlet and gauntlet 2 on my c64 and it was heaven when i ran an amusment arcade when i actually had the original 4 player gauntlet cabinet. Diablo for me was the game that gauntlet should have been and the diablo games (i own all of them and diablo 2 runs perfectly on my windows tablet) are easily in my top 10 games of all time. Superb series and i wish blizzard would bring starcraft to the ps5..
@Northern_munkey wow haven’t thought of Gauntlet in forever. Such as cool game. Diablo is a top 3 all time franchise for me. I am a huge Blizzard fan and with them going to Xbox, i surely hope Phil and company give StarCraft some love. Not sure they would bring it to PS, but you never know. I also want them to bring WOW to Xbox GP. But I doubt it. Yes all those games you mentioned get constant updates and for me, can’t speak for everyone that is a thing i like about them. They are always changing and giving gamers new builds to tackle the enemies. It’s a meta that what once wasn’t great is now a top 1 or 2 build. Let you make new changes and have new ways to play. Just got 3 levels with the Druid today. He’s 47 on season 1. So once i hit 50 i can really start to spec him out. Close to having 4 level 50’s. Loving the game and your excitement for it makes me happy. I hope the game brings you lots of fun for years to come. 😊
That's great. Now if they could just make it rewarding to play the rest of the game too, then I might be interested in giving it another try.
