As the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage draws closer, publisher Ubisoft has been digging into the game’s finer details, and that’s continued this weekend with an insight into protagonist Basim. Long-time fans of the franchise will know that the character previously featured in sprawling Viking instalment Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but the latest game in the series will focus on his younger years.
In the video, key creative staff explain that while this is a standalone story that can be enjoyed by anyone, there will be nods and references to other Assassin’s Creed games for franchise fans. The video talks a little bit about the hero’s design and why the team decided to explore his origins, insinuating that those close associations with the original instalment played a pivotal part.

I'm really looking forward to getting this
Is a "deep dive" just new banter for " in depth look"
Will be interesting seeing how he gets from here to who he is in Valhalla.
@WallyWest Agreed. When this was first announced, I was a bit confused as to whether I would want to play a game as Basim given how he turned out in Valhalla. It would be interesting to see the journey to that, although I have my doubts we'll ever see the in-between for him.
Looks like Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla...
I was kinda excited for this because of the smaller scale and “back to the basics” approach they described, but since watching the gameplay demo it fell completely flat, this looks exactly the same as Valhalla/Odyssey/Origins albeit in a smaller map, and after Valhalla burned me out I’m just done with this formulaic generic-feeling games.
Also this releasing just before Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder there’s zero chance I’ll consider playing this even if it somehow got into PS Plus or Game Pass.
I think this might be my most anticipated title of the fall actually! AC has always held a special place in my heart and Mirage is looking really great so far. Basim was definitely my favorite character from Valhalla so I'm pumped to dive deeper into his story.
Plus we actually get to play as an Assassin/Hidden One for most of the game. It's been almost a decade since the last time that happened! I'm really looking forward to this one.
@NinjaNicky there's blood in the gameplay reveal, it even looks like it coats the walls and floors like in unity
@NinjaNicky @MattBoothDev parkour looks like Valhalla, assets look kinda like origins and odyssey. Makes sense as it's using the same engine and was initially only an add on for Valhalla
@theMEGAniggle tbf they never did any development of it until it was decided to be its own game
@Smiffy01 yep 2023 buzz word
@Dodoo Cool, im off for a deep dive into today's wimbledon.
@Andy22385 true but either way it was just an iteration of the game. Meant the physics, animations and parkour would mostly more similar to the RPG trilogy rather than the OG AC series
Removed - flaming/arguing
@NinjaNicky yeah it definitely makes the presentation so much better and more satisfaction in combat
