Sailing Era is described as being a "hyper-realistic sailing and trade venture", which immediately put a little extra pep in our step. Set during the Age of Discovery (but with ships crewed by quirky anime types), players can embark on a nautical RPG experience, and it's out today on PS5 and PS4. It was released in January on Steam, where it enjoys Mostly Positive reviews.

Last we heard, Skull & Bones was frozen in time inside the Bermuda Triangle, with nary a release date on the horizon. So in place of it, Sailing Era actually looks quite solid. Putting us in mind of Koei's stone-cold SNES classic, Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, Sailing Era purportedly takes place on a "real-world scale map, and highly detailed recreation of the ocean, land, monsoon currents, and weather changes form a huge maritime world. Face sudden changes in weather, unpredictable winds, sunken treasure, pirate attacks, and luring danger. And experience a novel and thrilling voyage through the ocean."

With more than 200 unique ports, a dynamic economy reflecting price fluctuations, and a cast of colourful characters, it could fit the bill for those looking to get their pirate fix (although the term privateer is preferred in polite company).
