After years of pleas from passionate fans, NBA 2K24 will introduce crossplay across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in a franchise first when it releases on 8th September, 2023. To be clear, the crossplay functionality will only apply to Sony and Microsoft’s new-gen platforms – it won’t extend to last-gen consoles like PS4 or even PC. In the case of older systems, it makes sense as the new-gen versions have fundamentally different gameplay.
As announced earlier in the week, Kobe Bryant will feature on the cover of the standard release and its more expensive Black Mamba counterpart. The latter comes with 100,000 VC, 15,000 MT Points, and a bunch of other digital content, including a Sapphire Kobe Bryant Cover Star card for use in MyTeam. In addition, there’ll be a 25th Anniversary Edition which comes with a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass, allowing you to stream live basketball matches online.
As in previous years, there’ll also be a WNBA-themed version, which will be exclusive to GameStop retailers in North America. This special edition will feature New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu on the cover.
As for the game itself, on new-gen consoles specifically, 2K Sports is promising the introduction of ProPLAY, a “ground-breaking new technology that directly translates NBA footage into gameplay and delivers animations and movements via on-court NBA action for a generational leap in authenticity”. More information on that will be announced at a later date.
And, as previously speculated, there’ll be a Mamba Moments mode, similar to last year’s campaign featuring Michael Jordan. “Recreate some of Kobe’s most captivating performances and progress through his transcendent journey from a young phenom to one of the greatest players of all time,” the press release teases.
Obviously, there’s a lot more to unpack here, and 2K Sports will be sharing all the additions, tweaks, and changes in the lead up to launch.

So, they are planning on putting their GAAS games on Xbox right? Kinda pointless if not.
All games should be cross play. It really just makes sense. It’s one less barrier in console play and players and myself enjoy it a lot. I play Diablo 4 on Series X and many of my friends i play online with are on PS5 or PC. I got SF6 on PS5 and it supports cross play. This needs to be on every game and i am happy to see it come to NBA 2K series. 😊
Gambling Simulator in disguise of a basketball game.
Great news, happy were at a point this is becoming the norm!
Yay, more tasteless Bryant branding. They just gonna do this every couple years now?
@Netret0120 bruh my sister found out her husband spent $500 on 2k23 in like 3 months she almost stabbed him 😭 💀 😳 he hasn't bought a single microtransaction or dlc in the last 5 months 😂
I’ve played like 80 hours of 2K23 since it dropped on PS Plus. They’re really good games, I just approach the MyPlayer stuff as being a single player RPG like the old Mario Golf games and ignore that you can buy the currency. The graphics are pretty insane too, they definitely put EA to shame.
@Drago201 damn bruh I was about to ask whether these games were still gambling simulators but nvm lmao
@Cherip-the-Ripper there never gonna stop with that crap they net way to much money these games sell 10mil+ and a lot of those guys buy that stupid mtx
@lolwhatno he was on the cover of 21 as well tbf, besides with his # being 24 I suppose this is more fitting.
What's with all the hate here? Kobe has millions of fans that are happy to see his legacy being kept alive. And it's not like 2K can use his likeness without compensating the Bryant family either. Which means Vanessa approves and more money eventually ends up towards the charity and foundations that Kobe stood for. 2k can be cynical for sure, but at least this time they are making a proper effort and we are getting the Kobe Challenge Mode that everyone was screaming for last time around. Super excited for this!
I like this casino game but I don't know why there are those mini basketball games in the middle.
That crossplay is due to a lack of users, in each edition I play against the same user more times each time.
