For a number of years now, Sony has brought PlayStation to ChinaJoy, one of the largest gaming exhibitions in Asia. It's set to take part yet again in 2023, with the event scheduled between 28th and 31st July at Shanghai's New International Expo Center. So, what's Sony bringing to the showfloor?
A fair amount, actually. The platform holder will have a number of games for fans to experience, including a selection from its China Hero Project programme. Here's what will be in Sony's corner of the convention, as reported by Gematsu:
China Hero Project
- AWAKEN: Astral Blade
- EXILEDGE
- Evotinction
- Lost Soul Aside
- Will-less
First Party
- Gran Turismo 7
- Helldivers
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Horizon Call of the Mountain
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Third Party
- Crossfire: Sierra Squad
- Final Fantasy XVI
- It Takes Two
- The King of Fighters XV
- My Time at Sandrock
- Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections
- NBA 2K
- Phantom Blade: Executioners
- Sand Land
- Street Fighter 6
- Super Buckyball Tournament
- Sword Art Online: Last Recollection
- SYNCED
- Tower of Fantasy
So, a pretty robust list of software, then. It's not clear whether Sony will have any kind of presentation at ChinaJoy or if it's simply present on the showfloor — we would assume the latter, given the company's seeming lack of interest in the former. Anyway, if you're attending ChinaJoy 2023, it looks like you'll have plenty to enjoy.

The original zero dawn or rumored remaster? Kind of weird to show off a 7 year old title
Lost Soul Aside is the big one I'm keeping an eye on. The Twitter account said that they will be showcasing a demo where people can play a level, so I hope we get to see new gameplay. Exiledge looks promising too. I'm also keen to see if Sony's going to announce any more publishing deals with some of their China Hero Project stuff.
ChinaJoy? Why? Almost any other place in the world would have been better.
Not enough live service games for my taste
So sad to see everything being aimed at china now. Tragic
@Mikey856 don't worry, if there's a Russian games convention I'm sure Sony will be there too
Are some of those games only just releasing in China? I mean, I’d assume that Horizon would be censored to have any hope of releasing there, unless that ban only applies to ‘effeminate males’ as was stated in the bill and not lesbian relationships.
Looks like Sony is just mailing this one in. Don't worry, I don't care either Sony.
@KaijuKaiser now that’s what I call a whole lot of assumptions
@Americansamurai1 Could potentially be because China is a relatively new market for them (only opened 9 years ago in 2014) so although H:FW was released in that timeframe it won't have had big sales in the territory. Also China is far more PC based and the PC release came out less than 3 years ago. This might help give them a push.
That said it might just be the rumoured remaster / remake.
@Neither_scene but I’ll bite.. I can’t stand communism 😎
@KaijuKaiser yes right of course it isn’t 🤦🏻♂️

@themightyant good points, they're pushing the series a lot, very curious to see the Netflix series, if it hits the sales are going to be insane. Really think they're probably saving the remaster for when the Netflix show releases.

This is great, China has a huge untapped gaming market especially as they weren't allowed consoles for so long. This is a smart choice from Sony, they should of also brought along Honkai Star Rail to the show running on PS5.
Get ready for the term "CRPG's" going forward.

Wait, they're showing FFXVI in China? Wasn't that version of the game cancelled in the first place because Square refused to censor what they wanted them to (probably Dion being gay)?
Something changed there, and if it was Square that gave in, then oh boy, expect some controversy.

@NotSoCryptic Don’t blame the people, blame the government.
There’s so much untapped talent in China in the gaming sphere. I’m glad Sony has been reaching out with their ‘Hero’ projects & I look forward to what might come out from the India project.
And this comment section devolved quickly. You can be skeptical while also not upset others will be able to access a great game.

@KaijuKaiser
Is everything our fault or something?
Chinese vaporware: the showcase.
Genshin probably makes them more weeb money than any Persona game will ever make for them so it makes sense lol.
@StrawberryTurtle China.

I'm guessing they're going to China joy and not Gamescom is coz they're looking to increase their sales over there. And everyone in Europe and America who wants a PS5 has already gotten it or will get one in the future. So maybe going to Gamescom may not increase their sales much.
@KaijuKaiser Oh, okay, thanks. Didn’t know that.
@Americansamurai1 maybe it's VR? Who knows
Wish i was here earlier to see the comments while i have my morning coffee smh
Some serious 1984 nonsense going on in this comments section. Great job Push Square, you're the thing you hate.
@Mikey856 Don't see why this should be "tragic". On the opposite, we may finally get new types of games.
Well, now that's a whole lot of removed comments.
@UltimateOtaku91 The C in CRPG is taken by Computer. Maybe MRPG, or MandoRPG, for Mandarin - CantoRPG for games from Cantonese speaking regions?
