As has been said many times, June was a crazy month in video game land, with several major games heading to both PS5 and PS4. The trifecta of Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy 16 is an exciting lineup all on its own, but which of these rose to the top of the PS Store's download charts?
The headline's a clue: Blizzard's immensely successful ARPG was the top title on PS5, coming in at number one in both the US and Europe. It managed another number one result on PS4 in North America, with the almighty Minecraft on PS4 in EU stopping it from getting the complete set. Final Fantasy 16 had to settle for second place on both PS5 charts, while Street Fighter 6 was more up and down. It managed third place on PS5 on the American chart, sixth in Europe, and was less popular on PS4.
Meanwhile, Beat Saber cleaned up on the PSVR2 charts, followed by Pavlov VR. Top of the free-to-play charts was Fortnite, with Trackmania close behind in Europe and Call of Duty: Warzone at number two in the US.
You can see the full rundown through here. Which games did you buy digitally last month? Tell us in the comments section below.

Good for FFXVI to be on second place with only 8 days selling.
Diablo 4 was on sale almost the entirety of June, whereas FF16 released late into the month. I don’t know why I’m defending FF16 as I’m not even into the FF games 😂 loving Diablo 4 though!
FF beating Diablo would have made a great argument for the Activision buyout. I'll bet there is no joy in MS/Xbox today.
@Wormwood23 it probably would’ve come up for sure. It’s crazy right now that the $2.5 trillion company is all “woe is we” against a much smaller enterprise.
Yep, number 2 in sales from a total 7/8 days of the 30 in the UK and US is still pretty good
I hope actual word of mouth helps it stick around, because apart from people moaning that **maybe** didn't play it, it gets absolutely bats*** crazy once you open a sci- fi door, and it is very Final Fantasy.
I think maybe the people who are moaning just suck at actual combat and need the safety net of turn based and thus are sulking about that via review bombing 😁😁😁😁
(okay, maybe I don't really mean that, but still... Hehehe)
I’ll waiting till Diablo 4 hits Gamepass.
I'll probably wait till D4 ends up on the pre-owned shelves at this point.
@Ravix Dude FF16's combat is so shallow and on rails anyone could play it. Recently replayed FF7R and god damn the combat in that makes a mockery of FF16's boring and dull combat.
Honestly i think FF16 legacy won't be good as its a poor FF game, its a very poor action game and its a poor MMO lite game.
Diablo 3 sold over 30 million copies I expect diablo 4 at least match that of not sell more
@xx_PharsydeChemist_x unless your in the UK lol
@AdamNovice paid full price have no regrets it's my game of the year so far probably of the last 5 years love it
@WallyWest you are CRAZY. I guess a good question is what FF games do you actually like? VII Remake’s combat was really good but so was FFXVI
@WallyWest if the general consensus of people that played it is that it's an 8/9 then it can't really be a poor game. It's unfortunate that you don't like it, and obviously you can be entitled to that opinion and that's fair enough. It's just when people review bomb to try and stop people discovering and enjoying something for themselves to try and combat the fact that actually a lot more people like it then don't. They are the people I'm taking a jesting shot at 😃 (I know the combat isn't super difficult, or advanced, to me that hurts a game anyway, but neither was Elden Ring in all honesty. That was really accessible to newcomers, which is a good thing)
Developers...we play games during the summer. Keep them coming. Best release month of June in gaming history.
I still want to get FF16 at some point down the road. Maybe when it’s on sale this holiday season, I’ll download it. Diablo is an all time top 3 franchise for me. So I’ll be on that game for years.
@WallyWest I have to disagree about the combat being shallow. I've yet to fully max them all out, but experimenting with all eikon abilities and mixing them up is fun.

@Toot1st Glad you enjoyed it, I've yet to be convinced if this is my type of game.
@KaijuKaiser FF7R is deeper then anything FF16 offers.
@ztpayne7 FF7, FF7R, FF12 and parts of FF15. In truth i'm not a big FF fan but i know its strengths and FF16 has none of them except the music what as ever is excellent. FF16 wants to be a character action game ok fine but it fails at even doing that, the combat is so dull and shallow with none of the depth of the games its so desperately wants to be. Its legacy won't be good, FF13 and FF15 were also loved at launch as well now look at them.
@Ravix FF13 and FF15 were loved at launch as well, Jim Sterling who famously gave FF13 a damming review got attacked for months over it by fanboys and now everyone agrees with them. FF16 legacy won't be good, Japan has rejected it and even now the "backlash" is starting to form around it. 3M sales is pretty lackluster as well.
@KaijuKaiser Platinum DMC5 on both PS4 and PS5 the game that inspired FF16's combat, FF16 is not even 5% of DMC5's level.
@WallyWest or will it be remembered as the game that gets people like me playing the franchise for the first time ever? A lot of people will try this on first discount, I imagine, and they definitely should too. People that would never have looked twice at FF. The game should have real legs, as it's definitely fun to play
Is there a reason push square has negative or passive aggressive stories on ff16
@CreepingShadow Love your Kermit Xenomorph profile pic.
@WallyWest jim sterling's lost the plot these days
@MightyDemon82 cheers dude I thought it was a belter myself
@CreepingShadow I don't care how Stepth is these days i'm talking about when they gave FF13 a bad review for Destructoid, got hated and insulted for months over it only for everyone to end up agreeing its a pretty bad game. FF16 is a PS5 exclusive made by the overhyped Yoshi-P so naturally its having a lot of bias right now, i wouldn't shocked come the end of the year the game isn't looked at too great though.
@WallyWest 16 is a WAY better Final Fantasy game than 12 or 15. Story, gameplay, music, world etc. Combat is great and more varied than you think. Two of my best friends are playing and since I’m ahead of them, I’ve watched them play and we all use different abilities and approach combat differently. I’m saying all this as someone who also loves turn based, one of my top two games this year is turn based.
You’re obviously the one with bias based on your comments here. You’re coming off as really abrasive. It’s ok to have different opinions but maybe don’t speak for everyone.
I'll pick up final fantasy at some point wayway down the line but diablo 4 is consuming me. I knew it would but i offered up my soul anyway..
I have neither (and own all three current generation consoles). Still have to play FF1 to FF6 via pixel remaster. Waiting for a sale on that. Also want to play X/X-2.
All the while will likely never have any interest in Diablo.
FFXVI has one of the hardest hitting stories in a game I've played for a long time. Finished it yesterday, completely blown away.
I'd ignore Wally, reckon they played on story mode with all the accessibility accessories equipped.
Started Final Fantasy mode (available in NG+) today. Its definitely a difficulty hike, different enemies used in a lot of encounters too
I’m super into Diablo 4. It is way better than I thought it was going to be.
@ztpayne7 FF12 is a proper JRPG with an insane amount of depth and a great world to explore with a great cast barring its lead. FF16 is a poor mans painfully linear character action game with a dull cast except Cid and a game design that can't decide if its a boring MMO or a poor QTE heavy God of War/DMC rip off. Those no depth to the combat at all, swapping powers sounds good but its an illusion as it all amounts to the same thing and gives you zero reason to really use them unlike say DMC5 a game that forces you to experiment and try new tricks. Hopefully Yoshi-P sticks to his forced subbed MMO next time as he's clearly not cut out for the single player games.
Skill Up nicely sums up the game in his review and like me he also thinks time won't be kind to this game. Hell the subreddit has turned from loving it to more mid now, more mid to bad reviews are starting to appear and more negative articles are starting to form. FF16 will not be winning GOTY i can tell you that and i'm really expect8ng yo feature in many disappointing games of 2023 lists. You and your friends can like it but its clear the response has gone from positive to a more mixed response as more people have played it.
I know how its going to go because the same happened to FF13 and FF15. They were loved on release and the responses i'm getting on here are the same those were getting when they dared say anything negative about those games at the time.
@SnowMadClaude I'm on action and don't have any of those accessories equipped because why i would i want to turn an already very easy game into an even more easy game. I wish the highest difficulty was unlocked from the start as it might give it some bite then. As it is i feel like i'm on auto pilot with the combat. Sure it may feel tough for those who have never played a character action game but for anyone whose experienced with them its really easy to the point its boring. I'm guessing this is your "my first action game" hence why its "tough" for you 🙄
Funny enough i'm deep into T4 on Diablo 4 and i'm playing as a Sorc now that's difficult and has bite.
@AdamNovice try the demo. it will give you an idea whether you would enjoy it
@WallyWest jim was alot better at his profession back then now I don't think he can actually think properly because of the crazy life change he's gone through. It seems though that your regurgitating others opinions I don't care what reviewers think I like it. the combat is open very open I could beat the game using the same 4 moves or I can absolutely style on enemies and it feels great. I haven't finished the story yet so I won't comment on that I'm enjoying it so far I think there is pacing issues. The soundtrack for me personally is absolutely epic. Bearing in mind I haven't finished it yet but about 68% of the way through I'd say it's between a 8-9 which in my book is a damn fine game
@PlasmaticSnake that's how I described it to a friend it's the most final fantasy I've played since 10 but at the same time it's not like any we've played before.
@Sekijo I feel you hit the nail on the head
@Sekijo lol cheers it's a giggle
The issues isn’t about what we think is a success for not for the game vs Diablo 4 here. It’s what the investors say is or isn’t a success or not here. SE has had a losing streak since 2016 when they had a disastrous AAA games lineup that was beloved by the fans and reviewers but didn't sell well at all according to the investors, that give SE and its projects the thumbs up or thumbs down on future projects at this budget level here due to either slow turnaround time or no ROI here.
Fans of final fantasy do not want to hear this as even I don’t like SE’s decision to launch FF16 vs Diablo 4 in June here thinking it would get eaten alive by Activision’s money printing SaaS machine which (so far) it has as I (selfishly want more FF remakes of it’s older lineup and DQ games released in the west mainly the new DQ3 2.5HD remake on the PS5 and PC here as BC in modern consoles no loner exist as this only leaves emulation for older out of print games no longer being sold to play on the pc or a jailbroken/modded console nowadays.) And I don’t want to see Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest go the way of most JRPGS having to go to MMOs because of Activision and 2K constantly reseting the market on games investor profits and turnaround time on ROI expectations here just to break even let alone a profit for SE to remain alone without it being bought out by a company like Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo as what happened to the Xenogears creator studio monolithsoft LSI back in the day here.
It's quite a shame. Final fantasy XVI is obviously a game that it's developers have poured a lot of love into. I have yet to play diablo 4 but I am hearing good things about it.
