Due out in just a couple of months on PS4 (on the 19th September in the US and the 22nd September in Europe), The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails has picked up a new gameplay trailer which is quite simply packed with charm. For those out of the loop, Nayuta is kind of a Trails series spin-off, although it has nothing to do with the storylines and characters from Falcom's flagship franchise.
It's also an action RPG, with combat that's somewhat similar to the Ys games. You can see this for yourself in the video, which showcases a bit of everything, including a touch platforming and a quick introduction to the title's cast.

Getting a strong Brave Fencer Musashi vibe from this. Color me interested 🤔
Can someone please explain how this game fits in the Trails narrative? It has trails in its title but its story has nothing to do with trails. Is it the same universe? Has it got any kind of connection to the main game or is it safe to skip it for now?
@Czar_Khastik Completely unrelated.
@nessisonett @Czar_Khastik I’ve got a feeling that they put “Legends of” and “Trails” in the name of this game just to trick fans of the Trails saga into thinking this game is somehow related. People looking for an actual Trails game would have this appear in the search results. They can get away with it because they’re the same developer, and not another company trying to capitalize on the name.
Kinda like how some games use the name of an old IP on a completely unrelated project — like Bethesda did with Prey, or Bungie are doing with Marathon. Or how shovelware developers on the Nintendo eShop name their games — like Grand Call of Elder Theft Duty Auto Scrolls Simulator — just to throw as many popular keywords in the title to ensure getting into as many search results as possible, trying to sucker young or uniformed people into thinking they’re the real game.
@Impossibilium That actually sounds about right. I didn't know if the title is some quirky translation or if it's bait. I guess we've entered fishing season
@nessisonett Thanks, skipping this one for sure
This game is a remaster of a 2012 PSP game, so it's not as though they're using the "trails" name to trick fans.
@Impossibilium It’s a PSP game. They weren’t thinking about SEO back then to trick people, Trails is part of a much wider series, The Legend of Heroes, which is made up of different subseries with different settings and characters.
@nessisonett Yeah, you’re right. I didn’t realize this was a remake.
I’ve never played anything in the series, but I’ve been interested enough to look up info about, so I’m aware of the various arcs and sub-series.
There’s still a chance I could be right about the SEO — the words may have been added to the English translation for this release — or, if the words were similar in the Japanese release… well, the internet existed in 2012, and it would have been people searching online stores for the physical copy.
But I was more focused on the usage of the words in the title to attract Trails fans; I only used the SEO bait games as a partially related example. I was thinking more about how companies use unrelated IP names to attract existing players.
It's not canon so nobody cares.
If you spend £70 on this game you are actually an idiot.
@DarkSoleride It's a €40 game and the very definition of a hidden gem. I've played the translated PSP-original and it's easily the best action-platformer on that system.
Combat feels great and level-design is fun, so the framerate was the only issue holding it back, but PS4 will bump that up to 60 FPS.
Classic Falcom awesomesauce on an Ys III: Oath in Felghana level.
But beware - don't play it unless it's canon
@Czar_Khastik it's supposed to be about towa's grandpappy
