Recent whispers around the web have suggested Rockstar Games is on the verge of announcing the resurrection of its PS3 classic, Red Dead Redemption. While we could initially write this off as little more than a rumour, we're now seeing signs from several places that give it more and more legitimacy.
Things really got started on this topic when the Korean ratings board listed a brand new rating for Red Dead Redemption. This alone is highly suggestive of a release on modern consoles, although it doesn't tell us whether to expect a simple port or something more substantial, like a remaster.
Anyway, since then, a couple more things have happened. Over on the Rockstar Social Club, the achievements for the open world western have recently been updated. That's a pretty out-of-nowhere move for a game that's 13 years old. Now, Colin Moriarty, speaking on his podcast Sacred Symbols, claims to have seen evidence this is in fact real, and expects an announcement to come as early as August.
If that wasn't enough, a statement from a Take-Two Interactive earnings call has been dug up and shared on Twitter, revealing the publisher plans to release "two new iterations of previously-released titles in 2024". Of course, one of those may well be Red Dead Redemption.
With all these hints and clues together, it seems highly likely to be true. Again, the Korean rating on its own is enough to tell us something's coming — they don't just list things for fun — but with all this extra evidence on top, it appears we'll be spending more time with John Marston in the near future.

I hope BULLY is the 2nd game
Remasters of Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV, and/or Bully would be very welcome news. Love all three of them.
Hopefully it stays very true to the original game, but has the graphics of Red Dead 2! I would definitely be interested in revisiting the game though as I thought the original was amazing. Sadly I wasn’t really a fan of the second game at all, but perhaps I will give that another go in the future.
Would’ve been helpful a few years ago- you know in the lead up to RDR2.
Played through the game through PSNow instead. It was playable, but it sure was a chore.
Bully is already available as a PS2 classic with trophies, so probably GTA IV is the other game.
I'd guess the 2nd one is some sort of Switch port, maybe GTAV.
Red dead is such a better game than GTA. I love the western setting.
Hope 2nd is Canis Canem Edit!
I hope the other rumoured game is Manhunt - which is available as a PS2 classic with trophies at the moment. That game was really dark and sinister and had Brian Cox from Succession as the Director. Disturbing and it came out to some controversy
I feel the graphics of rdr2 wouldn't suit the style of red dead redemption. Rdr2 is a more grown up story with less outrageous and cartoony characters. I'll be more then happy with a 4k 60fps update. Much like the Xbox backwards compatible version.
Oh, bury me not on the lone prairie
I know I'm clutching at straws but I wonder if this is the Rockstar VR project that has been mentioned.
Would be great if this was a hybrid (flat and VR) title.
And for heavens sake it better include unread nightmare
N.i.c.e. red dead redemption is one of the best games ever made word up son
I really hope this is true, and it’s not a dumpster remaster like that GTA Trilogy.
Also I’m hoping for a Bully remaster 🙏
Rockstar "remasterakes" thus far have turned out to be cheap outsourced hot garbage thus far. I have no doubt this will be the same.
Just revenue padding at the expense of beloved titles from the pre live service/microtransaction focused Rockstar era.
They built half the world of RDR for a small part of the epilogue (and I guess some online play) in RDR2. That was the biggest suggestion that they'd be doing something for RDR. It never needed rumours
They missed the boat for me personally. This would have been cool a year ago, but with all the new releases and much improved PS Plus I won’t have the time to replay old games like this.
One of the best games ever made. Bought it day one and will never forget those moments.
Not sure if I have the patience for Rockstar's games anymore. I enjoyed RDR2 a lot, but boy is the very prescriptive mission structure getting old. I don't know if I could handle another "mission failed" screen just because I tried to think outside the box and do something which the mission designers hadn't anticipated or wanted, like trying to out-flank some baddies, or head off someone I'm chasing, etc.
While I agree remasters never looks to be a good thing and only ever seems like a cashgrab milking it for all its worth, I do think this paticular remaster is genuinely worth doing a lot more than many other remasters. The demand for it by gamers has been there before the release of RDR2 and for many its been over a decade since last playing the original. They could have done something similar to what The Last of Us did 2013 PS3 and then quickly remastered for PS4 the following year 2014 but they didn't. RDR1 was 13 years ago and genuinly warrants a remaster especially when the demand is so high for it, makes sense to me. What's genuinely concerning about Rockstar though is where's the new IP, it's all remasters with no brand new IP at all. GTA6 will be a brand new story and guessing new characters but ain't no new IP. I guess when you make so much money from RDR2 and GTA5 why do they need to gamble on new IP, sucks
We really going to trust them bringing this back after the absolute mess they made with the GTA trilogy?
@PenguinLtd that along with Diablo 4 and my year would be one of the best in gaming ever. Red Dead and Diablo are 2 of my top 5 gaming franchises ever. This year just keeps getting better for games. Hope we hear about it soon and at some point get the 60fps and other upgrades to RDR2.
@Beerheadgamer82 plus RDR1 is no longer on PS5 or PC. So this would open the door to a lot of players. It is on Xbox X/S with some great BC enhancements. Looks great for a 13 year old game but this should make it way better and available to more players. 🤠
No undead nightmare= no sale for me.
@Powerplay94 yeah, but if you're doing it, the framework is there for more, I'd assume. I'd love to see RDR1 using these graphics. Maybe that's not what will happen, but it seems a waste as they probably made the entire map anyway, and then add in the other stuff to make it a real living world in the same way as RDR2 using a lot of similar code. Missions are mostly just going to different markers, and then having shoot outs so they could easily add that in to the new engine too.
Awesome news if true! Would be amazing if it was remastered but just to actually be able to play it at all would be great, seeing as you can't anymore unless you still own and run a PS3.
The same goes for GTA 4 which also leads me to believe that is the other game that may get released. Again, I hope so!
Can't wait to spend 100's of hours slowly riding a horse from point A to B, while partaking in very mediocre gunplay and downright broken cover mechanics in between. This is gonna be great...
It’s great this is looking more likely to be true. Just a question of the level of improvement involved.
A decently optimised port is good enough for me to purchase. Anything above that is a bonus.
What I'd really like to see is a PSVR2 version of RDR2. That game is gorgeous. Would love to explore that world in VR. If not that, then a PS5 remaster of RDR2 would be nice, or at least a PS5 patch for 60fps and dynamic resolution.
@Bionic-Spencer yea RDR2 is an amazing but really slow game, more of a cowboy simulator than an open world shooter, love them both but they're different games, still im hoping for an update with 60fps and all the cool looking gear from the online mode.
Remake I will buy ...remaster I won't
For me, I would love, absolutely 'love' for it to be a RDR remake. The storytelling was so good.. SO GOOD, it stayed with me for ages after.
And after playing RDR2, I still preferred the first one, the second was from a technical standpoint better, but a lot of bloat.
And I didn't really care for Arthur, I just wanted more John Marston.
The caveat is, that as mentioned above, the point to point gameplay could sometimes be a chore, not able to flank a target if they go down a little canyon/crevasse and I go highground, thinking outside the box, while chasing on horseback cos "they got away" and so on.
But the story beats, hunting the old gang, first going to Mexico... and the ending... Superb.
Better than many of the films and books that it took inspiration from.
And yes, I'd welcome a GTA4 remake too, I hardly remember it, but I remember that I enjoyed it.
Russian fella. Nico? I could look it up🤔
They straight up apologized for their last remasters, promised to fix them, and haven't. Hope these won't be another dumpster fire though.
In the small thumbnail for this article, it looked like John was holding a slice of pizza.
@CaptD that would be flat out amazing
There are 3 possibilities for the 2nd game: RDR2 PS5, GTAIV, and a dark horse being Max Payne 3 especially in light of the MP1 and 2 remakes. But I'm gonna guess it's GTAIV.
@hulkie some of the most fun multi player I ever had hulkie. Boggles the mind that wasn’t prepped for release right away with RDR2
Wow. Could not wish for better news. Hope the rumors are true! Would probably buy the games on day one.
Damn this would be good. I mean it should have been a dlc for rdr2 as the map was ready for it. Still could be and that would be cool and even more if they both have ps5 spruce up.
Rockstar is creatively bankrupt. This is no surprise that they're looking at RDR (PS3) being one of their only releases for the PS5 generation. It'll be this and GTA6. They'll have nothing else.
RDR1 was far better than the 2nd for me and would love to replay it with modern graphics. Hope this is true!
In all honesty, I think I've probably had enough of RDR for now. RDR2 was so bulky and content rich that there's really nothing that could add to it. Especially since the original will now feel archaic by comparison.
I loved roaming New Austin in Red Dead Online. I always steered clear of Tumbleweed though, full of trigger happy 13 year old cowboys there.
What do those 2 releases in 2024 say about when GTA 6 will be released? I doubt R☆ would release 6 anytime near another of their releases. So is 2025 then the earliest for 6?
Both RDR1 and GTA4 would be welcomed in an updated version. By 2024 those games will be 14 and 16 year old respectively. A whole generation of younger players have never played them on a Sony console, and no generation have played good updated versions of those games on a Sony console.
Really wish the focus would shift to new IPs (or even sequels) rather than remakes. This wasn't a thing until relatively recently and is contributing to the lack of new titles.
Sure, games like the last of us part 1 are great but I'd much prefer something new to look forward to, it all feels a bit lazy despite the amount of work involved.
RDR and ARKHAM TRILOGY were the last two third-party ports I really wanted on Switch. Even if it ends up like the GTA games, I'll still get it. If not... Then PS5 with Project Q I guess!
@HonestHick nice. What are the other three?
@ApostateMage I agree. Isn’t it nice how the griefers seem to congregate there though? As in…it wasn’t planned but the setting suits it.
@koverby Red Dead, Diablo, Gears of War, Mario Kart, Metroid
Those 5 at the moment excite me like a little kid at Christmas when i see a new game or remake coming to it. I love God of War and Last of Us as well. Many many others. But those 5 are the ones i can lose a lot of time in. 😊
There’s nothing more fun than unskippable walking sections taking literally hours
@CaptD I think it is. What's funny is that possibility isn't even entertained in this article nor any others that broke the news. SO much PSVR2 hate. I really hope it is just to piss on everyone's little perception parade. It would be the one title to pull (and push) everyone off the PSVR2 fence. We need a big one.
