Not many people seemed to be on board with this clip from Twisted Metal, the TV adaptation of Sony's car combat series. However, it's looking a little better in this new trailer, which gives a broader view of what we can expect.
Starring Anthony Mackie as John Doe, he's enlisted to deliver a mysterious package across a wasteland full of lunatics — including the intimidating Sweet Tooth (Samoa Joe, voiced by Will Arnett). The series, executive produced by Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, is written by Cobra Kai's Michael Johnathan Smith, and clearly is going for a silly action comedy vibe. The trailer features a mix of character-focused moments with hints at some proper vehicular carnage, which is what we all come to Twisted Metal for, of course.
We can see some potential in this — if you're willing to turn your brain off — but it won't be long before we can finally watch it ourselves. Twisted Metal begins exclusively on Peacock on 27th July, so it's only a few weeks away.

Even if you turn your brain off, this will be absolute dogsh*t. It’s going to challenge The Idol for worst show of the last few years.
I've never followed the franchise but I'm looking forward to this show.
Popcorn fodder. Mindless fun. There's nothing wrong with that.
"turn your brain off" as the article suggests and enjoy it. Couldn't have put it better.
Seems better than gran turismo so 🤷🏾♂️
Looks like a lot of fun.
Looks so boring and uninteresting and if we are getting any twisted metal game it's not gonna be the gritty type like the ps3 game that I was wanting :/
It doesn't look good. But maybe it'll be okay second-monitor content for when I'm grinding in an MMO or something.
Definitely sampling it with a few buddies. Even if it's not good, it should at least be unintentionally funny.
On the plus side, it looks like it's not taking itself serious so I won't either. Setting my expectations really low but I'll give it a go.
@nessisonett I challenge you to watch the first 3 episodes when it comes out and see if you smile

Some of the jokes made me chuckle. Will Arnett as a sadistic clown is fun.
If you go in with low expectations, this might be fun.
It's not like the Fast and Furious franchise is highly-intelligent drama - this feels like a low(er)-brow version of that, which takes itself even less seriously. I think it will all depend on the pacing, it could be painful or ridiculous (in a good way).
I'm just worried all the best bits made that trailer, and there's not much else worth watching.
I did not expect this but I actually liked this trailer a lot. Not gonna sub to Peacock for it but I'll watch it eventually
This looks entertaining to me. I intend to sign up for Peacock to watch this and then will probably stick around a month or two to watch some WWE documentaries.
Still don't understand why they didnt let Samoa Joe voice sweet tooth. He has a badass voice
Why didn't they lead with this? It's not a great trailer, it still looks bad...but it looks like the fun kind of bad. That clip they showed at SGF or wherever it was a while back just looked not-fun bad bad.
This is a much better trailer. As many of you are saying, it doesn't look amazing, but it does look kinda fun.
@nessisonett
Okay first off you havent even seen it yet so jumping to alot of conclusions, and second off I don't know how you can look at this and not think it will at least be a more entertaining watch compared to The Idol.
It looks fun. There are lots of movies and series which are not critics' darling but I enjoyed them thoroughly. Let's wait and see how it would fare. Amused some people already shot down based on NOTHING. Biased people.
It’s designed to be fun, they said all along they were going for a ‘Zombieland’ feel.
I’m all for it, not every adaption needs to be deep or serious. The appeal of Twisted Metal was always its ludicrous concept. It looks like the writers nailed what they were aiming for.
@get2sammyb if the acting was terrible this would be terrible. But from this trailer the actors look pretty good for such a goofy idea. And the gimmick jokes seem to hit - with me they do.
Mindless? ABSOUTELY. Fun? Mmmmmmmmmmmmm..............??????????? Not so sure about that.........
It looks okay. It's got great cast, the comedy seems fine enough, and there plenty of stuff to point at and say 'I recognize that from the game'. And that's all the Mario movie needed.
This trailer was light years better than the initial. I went from zero interest to at least will check it out now.
Looks like a good time. I actually like the premise of this. I think it would make a decent open world game. Sony should get on that.
Probably more entertaining anything Disney/Marvel had put out since phase 4 and after. I’ll give it a go.
@Bentleyma
Play Mad Max. Open-world car combat with Arkham-style fighting on foot. Lots of exploration that requires car stunts to pull off. Multiple cars to upgrade and use for different scenarios. Not a big hit at the time of release but this game really, truly does make for a great time. And I think it's free on one of the subscription tiers.
I agree about the mindless part... This instead of a TM game kind of annoys me.
@MikeOrator I legit love that game.
@nessisonett Definitely think it missed it's window of exploitation. Is there a millennial alive that knows what Twisted Metal even is? Does kind of remind me of Zombieland with the dark humor. Whether it can capture the same type of audience remains to be seen.
The premise sounds quite good actually. Looks better than the previous trailers but seems like it might have fallen prey to the insufferable type of dialogue writing the Marvel movies unfortunately popularized. Hope this isn't a corny quipfest
I hate fun. I only watch Citizen Kane. This makes me superior.
This trailer is way better than the last one they showed. Looks fun
The game was mindless fun so why not the show? I mean, I hated the games but I’ll give the show a try.
@GKT lol, I have a buddy who’s like this. Hates everything Marvel but always wants to rant about Lost In Translation and Capote. Man GTFOHWTBS lol.
I swear what passes for modern comedy just makes my eyes roll.
@AhmadSumadi lol wow 😂
looks absolutely terrible like i knew it would
im expecting the game to look like this if it ever comes out , my expectations for everything is rock bottom nowadays
This sold the show way better than the first clip we got.
