Epic Games and Remedy Entertainment have announced a delay to the release of the hotly anticipated survival horror sequel, Alan Wake 2. Initially planned to launch on 17th October, the game is now coming out 10 days later, on 27th October 2023.
A statement on its social channels explains the move:
In a nutshell, Alan Wake 2's launch is moving to later in October to provide "more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games". Indeed, there are a number of high profile games targeting that month, with the likes of Assassin's Creed Mirage, Lords of the Fallen, and of course, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 all arriving within weeks of each other. Remedy's sequel was going to be releasing right in the middle of all this, with Sony's superhero exclusive in particular looming large. Now, the game is stepping out to the tail end of October, where the schedule is quieter.
We will be seeing more Alan Wake 2 very soon, as it's confirmed to be making an appearance during the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation.
Are you excited for Alan Wake 2? How does this delay affect things for you, if at all? Tell us in the comments section below.

Expensive month for me ££££
Spiderman and Mario are going to dominate the month.
Don’t think it will make much difference lol
More space for sales, more like
Noooooooo!
Whew, it’s just a small delay, but seriously Alan Wake 2 is perhaps the game I’m most excited about this year (and I’m about to namecheck half a dozen games). This delay isn’t a huge deal, but it’s a shame the game won’t be there for more of the Halloween season. Definitely finishing AC: Mirage and Mario Wonder before this now though… if Starfield, Baldur’s Gate, and Mortal Kombat let me…
Seems like everybody is making room for the playstation elephant.
Sorry but they needed to delay into November really. I get the logic but peoples wallets will be tapped. Myself i was looking at Xmas for this as Spiderman 2, Mirage and MGS collection will be my October buys lol
Great news! I was worried about delaying this to play Spidey 2 and not rushing through the former. Now I can play Spidey for a week or 10 days then it's time to experience what's next in Remedyverse. Also I am nearing the end of AW Remastered and while gameplay is really annoying(***** those puppets sections) story is really good and more satisfying than I expected. Can't wait to see what's gonna happen in a couple months!
Should have pushed it to November or December. This game is not a priority to some people so getting other bigger games will be their priority. I want it to be a success for the series to continue, been waiting for it after playing the remaster
@ShowerThoughts it's hardly a playstation thing. September and especially October are jam packed with games from a lot of big publishers. A game released any time in these weeks is going to suffer.
Should delay to Nov as Spidey and Mario are going to dominate Oct.
Starfield (Sept 6th)
Lies of P (Sep 19th)
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC (Sept 26th)
Forza Motorsport (Oct 10th)
The Lords of the Fallen (Oct 13th)
Super Mario Wonder (Oct 20th)
Spider-Man 2 (Oct 20th)
Alone in the Dark (Oct 25th)
Alan Wake II (Oct 27th)
Super Mario RPG (Nov 17th)
The next few months are going to be PACKED (especially October)! Thankfully Game Pass will take care of 3 of those games to help save some cabbage. November or December would have been better for visibility. I do have Alan Wake II pre-ordered, though.
I am sure I am missing a bunch, but those are games on my radar.
It's a good move to delay Alan Wake II out of Spider-Man 2's week, but a delay to November would probably be better. Though, they can link it to Halloween, good time for horror games.
@Powerplay94 yes but it’s coming around Halloween too. It’s spooky season so that will give it a large bump I think.
Too bad this delay doesn’t give them the space to release a physical copy.

The other big one your missing that I'm really looking forward to is Assassin's Creed Mirage, which has moved a week earlier to October 5th, probably to avoid all the other mid-October games.
I'm also interested in The Crew Motorfest, another Ubisoft game out in September. I'll probably end up just getting Ubisoft+ for a month or two.
@lightningbolt79 Admittedly, I have only played the first game all the way through.
I played a little bit of 2, but other games held my interest more. I tried Origins on Game Pass and couldn't get into it. The last Ubisoft game I played and finished was Immortals Fenyx Rising.
Ubisoft games rarely spark my interest.
Mario + Rabbids was great (I have yet to get the sequel) and Star Wars Outlaws has piqued my interest.
@GamingFan4Lyf
They definitely aren't for everyone but I really love them, even if I can clearly see how repetitive the newer games are! Just wondering around Egypt or Greece is enough for me!
Personally I’m not one of these (many) people who is threatening to boycott a game I want to play because it’s digital only.
I do find it strange though. Surely games released during a packed build up to holiday season should be factoring in Christmas.
No one is going to actually play all of these games during September and October. I would think a lot of people would be looking at getting some and leaving some for Christmas gifts (either given to kids so they can play too or receiving if appropriate).
I really don’t think many people are going to be buying someone a digital only game as a Christmas present - doesn’t have quite the same effect, does it?
Ahh bollocks, I thought Mario Wonder was out in August!
Nephew will be pained by my inability to properly read the words slowly on print and screens
Smart move. I wasn't buying Alan Wake 2 because it was too close to Spider-Man 2. I'm not sure if I can complete Spider-Man 2 within a week though. If I can, I'll get Alan Wake 2 day one. Still, would be better if they delay it til November.
This shouldn't really help much. It is a better move than putting it out 3 days before Spider-Man 2, but there's still way too much coming out in October. Other than the biggest guns like Spider-Man 2, Mario, and Assassin's Creed, i expect initial sales of games coming out then to be like Hollywood movies at Christmas.
I agree with the person above me that it would be better to delay it into November. It would still be out before Black Friday (even though it's digital only), and there'd be a lot more people freed up to play it right away.
@Powerplay94 I think I have both Watch Dog games on my Ubisoft account - as they were given away at one point for some reason.
I really should install the Connect App and play some of these games, because I have been gifted a bunch of Ubisoft PC games as freebies (I think I have some from the Epic Store as well).
Personally didn’t care for the original but that was mainly due to it being dated and playing pretty awful at times. Having said that I loved Control so if they can give Alan the same treatment and polish then it might make my list. But with Spidey and Phantom Liberty incoming I may well just wait until it’s cheaper ….
