There has been some surprising news this week for fans of Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: the Leader Pass DLC has been released on all console platforms, including the PS4.
The Leader Pass features twelve alternate leaders for existing civilizations plus six additional personas for existing leaders. It was originally released on Steam and other platforms incrementally between November 2022 to March 2023. On its original PC release, no plans were given for a console release much to the disappointment of console players, so today's news has a come as a welcome surprise after many players had given up hope it would ever come to console at all.
The Leader Pass is available for free to anyone who already owns the Sid Meier’s Civilization VI Anthology pack (or all of the DLC purchased separately) or can be purchased from the PlayStation Store for £17.99/$19.99.
The Leader Pass DLC contains the following leaders and personas:
Great Negotiators Pack
- Abraham Lincoln (America)
- Queen Nzinga Mbande (Kongo)
- Sultan Saladin (Arabia)
Great Commanders Pack
- Tokugawa (Japan)
- Nader Shah (Persia)
- Suleiman the Magnificent (Ottoman)
Rulers of China Pack
- Yongle (China)
- Qin Shi Huang the Unifier (China)
- Wu Zetian (China)
Rulers of the Sahara Pack
- Ramses II (Egypt)
- Ptolemaic Cleopatra (Egypt)
- King Sundiata Keita (Mali)
Great Builders Pack
- Theodora (Byzantium)
- Sejong (Korea)
- Ludwig II (Germany)
Rulers of England Pack
- Elizabeth I (England)
- Varangian Harald Hardrada (Norway)
- Victoria - Age of Steam (England)
Finally, all players will also be able to claim Julius Caeser as an additional leader for Rome by linking their 2K account to the game. This offer doesn’t require players to own the Leader Pass.

Rulers of England Pack : Varangian Harald Hardrada (Norway)
Can any British people tell me if this is a burn or if history is taught so in England?
I mean, as far I've found, Harald Hardrada never was ruler of England, he just invaded the country but failed ultimately to claim the throne?
To me, it looks like if someone said "Ruler of Russia : Adolf Hitler". But really, if there are British people here, please enlighten me!
@Olmaz I'm British and I have absolutely no idea. Hope that helps! 👍
@Olmaz or you can just use Wikipedia:
Additionally, he unsuccessfully claimed both the Danish throne until 1064 and the English throne in 1066. Before becoming king, Harald had spent around fifteen years in exile as a mercenary and military commander in Kievan Rus' and as a chief of the Varangian Guard in the Byzantine Empire.
So your right, but could have been resolved by yourself just by searching his name
@Olmaz Probably just the devs poor knowledge of history. Add to that: “Rulers of England - Victoria” err no, she was Queen of the UK not England. I know they even label her as Queen of England in-game. England ≠ UK 🙄
I downloaded this last night - a nice surprise to get for free (having got the game plus all DLC for about £20 a while ago).
@VeldinX UK is England with added territory. It’s the same country for all intents and purposes in a game like Civ.
@Blofse I did my research, which is why I asked for a British point of view. As you well know, I'm sure, history is not taught the same way in different countries, even if the facts may be the same.
One good example I like is Napoleon. In France, I learned that he was this great builder and conqueror that modernized France and tried to unite Europe. When I talk to my colleagues of other countries, he's viewed as a bloodthirsty warmonger in the history books.
Hence why I asked to the British how this figure is viewed in England. Who knows, maybe he could have been seen as a "ruler", even if his claim to the thrones was unsuccessful, there are a lot weirder historical facts and interpretations around...
@Jaz007 Just no. The game has England and Scotland separately which is right for Elizabeth I and Robert the Bruce, respectively, but Victoria was both/neither. She was UK (or Great Britain would be acceptable I guess but still technically wrong).
How is this game?
Picked it up today, £5, an extra £18 for all the DLC including this leaders pass.
Enjoying it so far, controls seem fine but obviously a little slower than on PC.
I have a question, with regard to the multiplatform save files, does this mean I can continue a game on Steam on my Mac?
@stefan771 This game is probably the pinnacle for turn based strategy ESPECIALLY with all the DLC. Pick up the base game and see what you think. Then wait for a sale on ALL DLC if you enjoy it.
You could argue Stellaris or Crusader Kings or Victoria or Europa Universalis or Hearts of Iron are better but Civilisation kind of does it through all the timelines.
Having this on Switch is just ridiculous. From being hunched over an Atari ST in the 80s to playing this in the palm of your hand....
