Ever since Cyberpunk 2077's game-changing 2.0 update was announced, fans have been wondering when it'll actually launch. Obviously, it's always been assumed that the patch will arrive ahead of the Phantom Liberty expansion on the 26th September, since the DLC incorporates a lot of the new systems and mechanics — like car combat — introduced through the update.
So when is 2.0 dropping? Well, unfortunately, we still don't have a confirmed date, but during the developer's latest stream, CD Projekt Red said that it'll launch "a little bit before" Phantom Liberty. "A few days, weeks, who knows?", the stream's host added, towards the end of the show.
CDPR's comments came across as being quite cheeky, so we're tempted to believe that 2.0 will release soon-ish. Just to recap, the free update makes significant changes to Cyberpunk 2077. It completely overhauls skill trees, gives the game a proper police system, adds car combat, reworks cyberware, slots in dynamic missions and open world events, and more.
And you can see some of 2.0's additions in action via the aforementioned livestream. The whole thing's archived on CDPR's Twitch channel, and it goes in-depth on the police system, some of the redone skill trees, and car combat. It also features a chunk of raw Phantom Liberty gameplay.
Are you looking forward to the 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077? Plan out your next playthrough in the comments section below.

Super, super stoked about 2.0. Might even start a brand new play through with it!
Since progression will be overhauled, I wonder if character builds/save games from the current version will still be compatible with 2.0...
I shouldn't have replayed Cyberpunk earlier this year. I should've just waited. Oh well!
Makes sense, I assume a lot of people want the (re)play the base game before the DLC drops. Especially since it's been almost 3 years since that game released
@helbertpina They will, CDPR's already confirmed it, thankfully. For the new skill trees, you just get your perk and attribute points refunded.
I’ve been waiting to play this until it’s actually done. Hopefully this will be it.
Really looking forward to this, I'll be playing on PC with the new "ray reconstruction" but the new gameplay improvements alone look amazing. I'm probably going to start a new character to get the full experience of the new skills and features before jumping into the dlc
@ShogunRok Fantastic! It's great to have the choice!
The story was just so lame and unfinished, and the loot system so dated and phoned in for me to even consider going go back. The world was lifeless in the way that it just felt unfinished and overtly easy to get through even on hard. They bit off more than they could chew, and it shows when exploring what amounts to endless areas populated with procedurally generated loot, most of which is entirely useless.
This is where I think folks overlook, that aside from releasing a technical mess, and fraudulently advertised, the foundational aspects of the game were unfinished and so clearly edited and stitched together to get it out. It shows when playing it. People speak of redemption and forgiveness, come on, they are only now allegedly really addressing the police system,..3 years later.... 3 years after deliberately lying to the community in favor of profit.
Redemption will come when they release a game not repeating the same deception, not just because a cheesy netflix series came out. At the very least they should have given this dlc for free to those that bought this garbage day one or preordered and didnt ask for a refund.
I wanted to love it but ultimately i didn't find this game, initial technical issues aside, to be a good one.
Removed - trolling/baiting
I don't understand people holding a grudge against the developers - the first reviews made clear the game was a mess, and first-day buyers could get refunds in the end, I seem to remember? It was good earlier this year on PS5; should be great after the update. Refusing to play it now sounds like 'cutting off your nose to spite your face'.
It would make business sense to release it in time enough for the average player to reach the point in game when the DLC is available. So x amount of hours per day to get however far in game you need to be?
Really excited for this update and for Phantom Liberty, the PL/update 2.0 trailer has been one of the high points of Gamescom for me!
@deadfred77 First day buyers had a real mess getting refunds, particularly on Playstation - where Sony has no official refund policy and was reportedly blindsided by the developer promising refunds for digital purchases. While it's never been said, I suspect that's the real reason Sony pulled the game from their store for months.
As for me - I picked up a pristine used physical copy for $10 while it was banned from the store. I still haven't played it (too many games, too little time), but I expect to fire it up once the new release drops (and there have been some reviews to evaluate performance on the PS5 post-patch).
Hopefully 2.0 comes out before the 1st of Sept as Starfield will be taking all the headlines (good or bad) from then followed by BG3 on PS5 and a slew of other good games in Sept.
@RobN To be fair I was able to get my PS4 version refunded pretty easily via a special PSN form, and I had played the whole game first too.
Got a gaming laptop a few months ago and seriously contemplating doing a new run on a PC version for all the added perks and mod support. Feel like a fraud though ha!
I reckon, giving they announced it cheekily, it’ll be updated next week… just a hunch.
@ApostateMage They're not wrong on quite a few points regarding CP2077 though. I'll give it another go when 2.0 is released but game just seems to lack heart & soul when I've tried before.
I might finally play this. Only took them 11 years to make it proper lol.
@Panic_Attache Yes, it lacks some heart and soul. Especially the world, which should be the star, but is just so forgettable. Okay, I can remember some funny advertisements, and a lot of giant dildos.
@deadfred77 Nope. No refund from steam since I played over an hr of that garbage. I even hyped it up to my friends who also bought it and still bring it up as a joke at my expense.
Really hypes for the update and DLC, very tempted to start a NG for it all.
I actually played it way late so I had a pretty good experience. I can't wait for this.
I haven't touched the base game yet, was waiting for all the DLC and updates to be available and then start fresh.
