Superhero MMO DC Universe Online’s lifespan has been so long that it originally released as a PS3 console exclusive under the Sony Online Entertainment umbrella. The publisher was eventually spun off and re-established as Daybreak Game Company, where it continues to operate its licensed online open world to this very day.
And now the developer has confirmed that the title will expand to a third PlayStation generation, with a native PS5 port due out later this year. “Along with the performance gains found playing natively on the latest and greatest hardware, the team is also working on gameplay and quality of life improvements to match,” the studio said.
It added: “This initiative is a long-term endeavour that is already underway. You will see some of these improvements launch over the next few months prior to release on the new consoles, some of them at launch, and some of them following over the course of next year.”
It’s important to note that the PS5 version of the game will run on the exact same servers as any previous iterations, so all of your characters, purchases, and progress will carry across. And, in addition to the new versions, there’s also a robust slate of new content planned to keep the experience fresh moving forwards.

I really really want a Superman action game in the way of Spider-Man but sadly, I stand alone on this one
Kudos to the people who can play an MMO for years and years!
It's Still a shame that Everquest 3 failed had it not sony might not have sold them off.
Cool that people are still playing this. For me currently DC is only alive and well on the comic book pages, but I am looking forward to Joker Folie á Deux.
Gave this a try, an incredibly long time ago, (maybe even on Ps3) and was pretty impressed with it, for a free MMO. Making your own hero/ villain was good fun!
Which holiday? There's a lot of them.
I didn’t realize this game was still alive and flourishing. It’s one of the few free-to-play live service games that I’ve tried, because… I feel like it must have been one of the first. Back in the PS3 days we had to buy all our games. If something was free then I’d often check it out just because I had nothing better to do. Now I have lifetimes worth of content available for free if I wanted it, not to mention subscription service games. So I am impressed that DC Universe Online has kept relevant in the world of Genshin, Fortnite, Warzone, etc.
OH WOW!!! I can't wait to get back in this game......I actually forget who my character was. Think he had something to do with ice powers????
I bought this game physically on PS3. I played it a lot, but it didn't have a lot of content at the time. I also saw the $60 price tag as a big barrier to entry that would really hurt the game since I didn't think it was worth that at the time. I traded the game in and less than a year later, it went free-to-play. I got a nice bonus since I was an original player, so I played again, but that bonus wasn't enough to keep me engaged long. I'm happy the game is still going and people are enjoying it. I may jump back in with the PS5 version because it has been almost a decade since I played it last.
Actually insane that I remember when this game released, and the fact that it's still going.
I had no idea this was still active
@Areus agree everquest 1 and 2 were the beat so many memory's in Norath! DC universe sucks I'm surprised it's still around . People want to play as their favert hero not a water down mini me of their hero.
Part of me wants to see if my old character I built on the PS3 and leveled up as high as she could go back in the day still exists. If I can download it, log in with my PSN credentials, and fire up that character again, I'll give it a shot.
If I fire it up and have to create someone new, I'll probably just delete the thing.
