Immortality creator Sam Barlow has confirmed he's working on bringing his interactive movie game to PS5. Replying to a fan on Twitter, Barlow simply says he's "working on it". The title was originally released to critical acclaim on PC and Xbox Series X|S, garnering a Metacritic rating of 88.
It follows in the footsteps of Sam Barlow's previous games Her Story and Telling Lies by having you scrub through film footage to reveal clues and plot points, but Immortality expands the concept by linking a narrative across three movies.
Our sister site Pure Xbox called it a "cinematic masterpiece" in an Immortality Xbox Series X|S review that awarded a 10/10 rating. "It's a dazzling display from any angle you to choose to admire it; top-notch acting, brilliant writing, a core mechanic that's complex but carried off with style and grace, intuitive controls that draw you into your role." Played this on gamepass and it’s so bad. I have no idea how this got an 88 on metacritic
As of right now, this is easily the best Xbox console exclusive (yeah, it’s playable on Netflix, but that’s not really a console, is it?). Absolutely remarkable and unique title. If you have any interest in film and are open-minded for what a video game is, ie being ok with the concept of “games are playthings to interact with” rather than “I control this character til the end of a story and that’s a game,” you’ll enjoy this. It’s a really innovative piece. It’s not for everyone, but, if it’s for you, it’s a masterpiece. I recommend anyone try it.
Not surprising given that it's about to leave Game Pass, so I was hoping and kind of expecting it would end up on the PS5 at some point after it's year on the service was up.
I'll definitely get it at some point. I think it looks great.
Hopefully Vampire Survivors will be next.
Fantastic experience and truly mad something this weird and complicated got made. Worth a try!
Just play it over netflix. Not a game where a controller is essential.
Lots of respect for this game. The whole setting is truly unique and the atmosphere great. Personally I found a couple of days enough because it quickly feels like grinding going through all those scenes.
@somnambulance easily my game of the (last) year - utterly strange and utterly captivating
@AndroidBango it was a good choice for that. I think I had it in #3 on my list last year if I remember correctly? I really loved the game. Elden Ring was my goty, but Immortality was truly memorable. I was honestly surprised it didn’t get any acknowledgment at the Game Awards. I was expecting them to win something, you know?
One of the only games, which has creeped me out so I couldn't sleep.
Initially I was honestly bored. Just clicking through objects to knock off a few achievements.
Then I found her, I was like wow a weird hidden scene. And then the rabbit hole opened up. And I was petrified.
