Lords of the Fallen, the Souls-like action RPG, has been shaping up nicely for some time now – as we pointed out in a recent preview. However, one thing that fans had been criticising on social media were the sound effects – particularly in a couple of IGN previews. To developer Hexworks’ credit, it’s responded swiftly, and released a short Twitter clip showcasing the improvements it’s made:
There’s no doubt that compared to the original IGN videos this sounds so much better: each attack is crisper in the mix and a lot more satisfying overall. Whether this was a bug or unfinished part of the preview build is unclear, but the main thing is that the team has cleaned things up prior to launch.

Awesome I'm not preordering yet but confident in this one, I will most likely day 1 this!
Heh... I've written the exact same thing on August 16'th as a comment to one of IGN's previews (the one with the first 13 minutes of gameplay I think it was).
They need not only to improve the sound for the release version, but to get ahead of the issue and release gameplay videos ahead of release with the improved sounds - because this problem is spreading and leaves an important mark on the impressions of many potential buyers.
Very glad to see they are listening to us - bravo!
This is one of the most anticipated games for me this year, can't wait to delve in!
Sounds good. Nothing like a good bloody, fleshy thwack when you pile a heavy weapon into someone's face. And for video games also.
Didja catch the Penitent One in there??? Didja?!
This looks (and sound) pretty good actually.
Sounds amazing, definitely one of my most anticipated game this year alongside with Pi and Alan Wake 2 (sorry Spidey you're not on the list)...
PushSquare, you drive me nuts sometimes.
I know this is a Sony-dedicated site, but the way you specifically mention PlayStation consoles in your headlines for multi-platform releases makes it sound like whatever the subject is exclusive to PlayStation.
Couldn't you just say Lords of the Fallen Seriously Upgrades Sound Prior to Launch? The way you word it implies that only the PS5 version gets an upgrade.
I think it just drives me nuts because none of your sister sites do that about multi-platform games (unless the subject is specific to the platform). Plus, you don't always state the PS4/PS5 version in headlines, so that makes the implication even more amplified.
You did this once for a video about game footage and the footage wasn't even the PlayStation version.
Now if you're talking about a game announcement, that makes sense.
Sorry for the rant: it's not you, it's me.
I'm so f****** excited for this game.
It can't come soon enough, it'll be a perfect October game 🎃
I also can't mention enough how happy I am they are building off the traditional Souls level design instead of going full open world. I hated that about Elden Ring.
@GamingFan4Lyf Unfortunately thats just how news sites function these days. Anything that'll garner extra clicks.
I'm actually amazed they addressed this! That was my biggest criticism of the early footage, so I'm pretty much all in now 😎
@GamingFan4Lyf I'll second this, it's a matter that's been bugging me too for quite a while.
To PushSquare : mentioning only a single platform from the ones the game releases on, as is the case in the present article title, is very misleading, very close to the border of fake news, especially for those of us who game on multiple ecosystems.
It may seem like I'm exaggerating, but there really is no way to know if the "action" you mentioned in the title happens only on PS5 or on all versions of the game. Sometimes it may be logical, but other times not so much...
We would very much appreciate for multiplatform games to either mention all of them, or none of them, depending on the article.
Thank you, and sry for the offtopic ranting!
@ear_wig Ita him, right? I mean, I'm pretty sure it's not a coincidence. Glad someone else noticed, I searched everywhere, no one has made a mention about it.
@fabio78 Coolest hat ever!
The sound effect thing was the only real thing bothering me aside from SoulsLikes not having a great track record. But I’m hopeful. Certainly looks great.
@Shinnok789 This is a PlayStation site. They literally omit mentioning the other platforms in all articles they write. Have you not noticed this yet? Are you new here?
Does it make a difference to anything? Nope.
You’re being neurotic and cringe.
@GamingFan4Lyf It’s a throwaway headline which no one with any common sense would interpret as
“Sound fx R only FOR da PS5z”.
You’re creating a ridiculous issue from nothing. 🙄🤦♀️
Guess you skipped the "it's not you, it's me." part.
@Arnna You didn't even read the whole comment, or made the slightest effort to understand where it's coming from, but you talk AND name call... Do you even know how to read a book? Or just it's cover is enough? Oh, let me guess, it's best to wait for the movie...
