Despite the PS5 being Sony’s flagship format these days, its previous generation console the PS4 continues to receive robust software support from most major publishers. It’s perhaps not a gigantic surprise that Konami has committed to releasing its retro compilation Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 on the decade-old device then.
Our friends at Nintendo Life attended a preview event where the game was officially confirmed for Sony’s previous platform, corroborating ESRB leaks earlier in the year. It’s unclear whether the game will be available day-and-date, on 24th October, with the PS5 release – but representatives for the publisher said that the PS4 port has been commissioned due to fan demand.
Obviously, this is a compilation featuring PS1 and PS2 titles, so presentation and performance is unlikely to differ too much between Sony’s more contemporary consoles, and therefore the games should run smoothly on both the PS5 and PS4. Are you happy to see a last-gen port confirmed for this compilation? Let us know in the comments section below.

This makes sense. I hope it is also cross buy.
Sonys accountants will make PS4 games for life!! Like Dick Jones said, spare parts for 10 years!!!
So far all footage they released runs in 30 FPS so...prepare for another disappointing performance on PS4/5 like RDR
@Luigia Who cares if it works or not??
Makes sense with it being on Switch tbf
Why not still re-release old games onto PS4? If they still sell there is no reason not to. Nothing about this affects PS5.
@XboxTheBestBox
You cannot buy the BC Xbox version anymore, I brought Xbox360 HD collection just before it was taken off the store. So if you want to buy it digitally this new version will be the only version to buy.
PS4 has to be the most supported console of all time. Its close to 10 years old and has still been receiving major releases in its 10th year (Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4 Remake, MGS Collection etc)
A PS Plus Premium Subscription and a $100 or cheaper used PS4 is insane value for someone new to gaming.
@XboxTheBestBox The version in the collection is the Bluepoint versions meaning so its the same version the PS3/360 got.
@Netret0120 If you are capable of resisting FOMO then there is no reason not to buy a PS4.
@MagisterMagi 720p on PS5 seems confirmed. Now image 720p30 on PS5… Konami was back on track again, but now I‘m worried.
@Geep Well they only showed footage running at 30 FPS so far. Surely they would try to show of the best Versions?
@XboxTheBestBox
In case of RDR, it received a resolution boost, whereas MGSHD runs at 720p. The PS5 port will most likely run at 4K. However Xbox has the Peace Walker HD version.
N.i.c.e. more people to play metal gear solid collection is fine by me.word up son
@LN78 you made my day!!! I have to go as somewhere there is a crime happening
Sony keep building PS4s and people keep buying them (331% increase in units sold recently?) so of course devs are going to publish games for it if possible.
@Netret0120 PS2 was supported all the way up to 2013 with the final game being PES 2014, which released on PS2, PS3, and PS4. PS4 will need another 3 years to catch up. The last PS3 game released in 2020, 14 years after the PS3 launched.
@XboxTheBestBox That version only has MGS2/MGS3 and Peace Walker. MGS1 isn't included.
@XboxTheBestBox Peace Walker has already been leaked to be in the Vol 2 collection. Are you just here to troll?
@Netret0120 don't forget about all the future yakuza games as well as armored core etc. this is a blessing and a curse... a blessing for people like me who would like to extract every last drop of value out of the ps4 and don't need 4k/60 to enjoy gaming... but a curse for the ps5 in that many games are being held back by old tech. we have barely even scratched the surface or seen its potential. i feel like sony would have sold an additional 5-10m ps5's by now had they encouraged publishers to drop the ps4.
@belmont keep dreaming, this is not going to happen 🙄
@JalapenoSpiceLife It is not that far fetched. Many triple A games are cross buy, even some KONAMI ones.
