When Crimson Desert was first announced at The Game Awards in 2020, many wondered whether the clearly ambitious title was simply too good to be true. And now, close to three years later, we've got our next glimpse at South Korean developer Peal Abyss' project.
To be frank, it looks ridiculous. The longer this trailer goes on, the more you realise just how much this open world RPG is trying to do. It seems to have everything, from a crazy combat system and a massive map to strange side quests and law-breaking activities. There's even a bit of Assassin's Creed style parkour later on, and those huge medieval battles certainly raise an eyebrow.
As the headline of this article indicates, it's hard to tell whether the finished product will deliver on all of this potential. Again, going by this gameplay, we've got a seriously ambitious title on our hands.
What do you make of Crimson Desert? Could it be the real deal, or is this trailer pushing things a bit far? Choose whether you're a believer in the comments section below.

I love what I'm seeing. Don't believe a second of it is authentic though.
They should shake the camera around a little more during those combat sequences
I always have wondered what a combination of Tears of the Kingdom, The Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed would look like
@Logonogo lol
This game looks great. Had a blast with Black Desert and this looks to out do that 10 fold.
@Logonogo LOL!! They should also add some more particle effects.
That's just ridiculous indeed, what a showcase of a game..Me want now, lolz..
if this is true, it wil be The Witcher 3 of this generation.
That trailer looks amazing.crimson desert could be a hit.word up son
Looks bloody brilliant. "Big if true:
This title look so high on drugs it should be renamed to "Fear and loathing in Crimson Desert"
That looks incredible.
Be surprised if half of that makes it to the release date...Also, looks like they pillaged tons of "idea's" from other good games....
I want it to be real so bad. It's not.
Can’t wait to play this on a 6090, and still get 30FPS at 1080p
It looks great but so did cyberpunk when it was announced. Cyberpunk also promised a lot before release, but had a disastrous launch and only huge patches could make it better, I have a feeling that this game could be the same.
Peal Abyss makes stunning games.
Main reason I tried Black Desert back in the day was because of how amazing it looked. This is on the radar.
@mariomaster96
And Fortnite, don't forget Fornite lmao
No desert. 0/10
I'll maintain a healthy skepticism. But if it's ANYTHING like that, we're in for what might be the most ridiculous open world ARPG of all time.
@Shadcai tell us more about this unknown game you speak of 😉
Anyways, the first trailer I saw for this a while back looked very promising, and it still does, but I'm worried how they shoehorned a bunch of Zelda and other open world game elements into it. I hope all these systems work together well. I get some really strong dragon's dogma vibes from it though, which is good, but it could also just be a pretty mess.
do we know if this is going to be the same live service gaacha game like black desert?
Why do RPGs feel the need to have fishing mini-games?
My brothers and sisters in Christ, I'd like to officially welcome you to next gen.
Tears of the Kingdom meets Skyrim meets Genshin Impact meets Elden Ring meets Final Fantasy meets Assassins Creed? This looks INSANE.
@Th3solution because its weirdly addictive. Honestly if a JRPG doesn't include a fishing mini game at this rate it loses points.
@RBMango howdy. With you there. The thing that made me think a bit harder about this is rdr2, which i am currently playing through. I am still flabbergasted that the base PS4 could run that game, and then thinking that a PS5 has (correct me if I am wrong) 10 x the power of the base PS4, who knows what may he possible if the pipeline is properly designed.
If they can pull off only half what they seem to be attempting and make it feel good to play this could be very special. But like everyone else I’m a massive sceptic.
It might have been easier to say which games this ISN’T borrowing from. The Zelda:TotK sky islands and free falling was the last straw and I was full on laughing by the end.
Please be real
One thing remove that mini map it look so out of place.
Ghost of Red Dead Tsushima
There's something off with this trailer ,weird camera shakes ,jerky camera movement and an odd crosshair on certain scenes, the cynical old man in me is saying its running on a high end pc, as a demo and someone's controlling the camera independently, and not doing a very good job of it,we shall see.
Looks like a mix between all Action RPG there are up to date. The trailer feels like a list of stuff the game has instead of the story/reason you should play it. Nice, but fast food.
