The start of 2024's video game release schedule is starting to take shape thanks to a flurry of Gamescom reveals, and PS5 players are already beginning to notice we've got another packed year ahead. With games such as Baldur's Gate 3, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Persona 5 Tactica still to come this year, the first two months of 2024 already look like this:
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown — 18th January 2024
- Tekken 8 — 26th January 2024
- Granblue Fantasy: Relink — 1st February 2024
- Persona 3 Reload — 2nd February 2024
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League — 2nd February 2024
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — Early 2024
It's a start to the year similar in vein to 2017 in the PS4 era, when Japanese developers essentially took over the release calendar with Gravity Rush 2, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Tales of Berseria, Yakuza 0, Nioh, and NieR: Automata in the space of two months and change.
2023's release schedule winds down once Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora releases in early December, essentially giving you roughly one and a half months to clear your backlog and be ready for another 12 months of games. We wish you luck getting all the September and October titles cleared in time. Does the release slate for early 2024 excite you at all so far? Let us know in the comments below.

There would be many backlog in recent years.
I'm looking forward to the reimagining of The Gold Saucer.
Tekken 8 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are day ones for sure.
I feel like Rebirth will be March. So I’ll have plenty of time to get Reload done before Rebirth- which will probably be my GOTY easy.
Having just finished a replay of FF7R i'm so pumped for Rebirth, easily the game i'm most excited for in 2024.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the only one I'm interested in right now, so I'm good.
The beginning of 2024 is nothing like the ridiculous overloading of October, where it'll be impossible to play or even buy all the ones some people might be interested in.
Good chance I won't play any of these games, though possibly I could watch my kid play FF7 Rebirth next summer.
Aren't we not supposed to be excited for Suicide Squad b/c it's gatcha paintball or something stupid like that?🤷♂️

I'm fine w/o any of these. I'm far enough behind that I just borrowed Kena Bridge of Spirits from the library today. Guardians of the Galaxy and Gow:R were both out.
I've got The Crew Motorfest, Assassin's Creed Mirage & Spider-Man 2 to go this year
But nothing there for me
I'm a bit worried about what I've seen from Sony 1st party for the future, the GaaS is not up my street at all & the other projects so far out they're not known yet
Odd, because we've feasted for years
Suicide squad... yeah right
And that's assuming nothing from now to December doesn't get delayed, which it almost certainly will.
I don't think i remember what it is to not have a backlog.
At least the rest of this year has basically nothing for me. I am hoping to at least get some progress done.
Anyways... only interested in ff7r and p3r from those.
Obviously not confirming anything here, but I've heard that Rise of the Ronin is targeting an early 2024 release as well.
You might as well take Suicide Squad off of your list, Push Square. Everybody else has. LOL
Isn't Like a Dragon 8 also said to be releasing in Early 2024?
Starfield is (probably) next week on PC for me, then Spiderman 2 in October. After that, just waiting for FF7-2, which is good because I still have two Trails from the Sky games to finish during all this.
What's sad is outside of FF7 Rebirth, I'd wager Suicide Squad will sell more copies than any of the other games on the list. Yet it still will be a huge financial flop.
Only interested in Granblue Fantasy for the first half of 2024 pretty much, so I'm all good. Also, Mario Wonder and Mario RPG are the only games I'm getting for the rest of this year. It also helps that I don't really have a backlog as I've mostly just been replaying older titles.
I just don't feel any pressure to finish games I lose interest in. I've got plenty of those, but I personally don't count them as part of a backlog. Backlog to me is games I love that I've yet to finish completely. Got Mario Golf on sale, so I'm currently enjoying that immensely. Trying to save in general through these troubling times.
That's a lot of Japanese developed games for such a small time period my wallet is gonna be hurting 😫 😩
Granblue Fantasy Relink for me!!! Also can't wait to buy FF7R and be burned yet again by how disappointing it will be because I just have to. Lol
@Powerplay94 October and November sure is stacked this year lol
I've only got Cyberpunk and Spidey to end the year. Then really... Not anything confirmed. (Maybe I'll sneak Everspace 2 in there.)
None of that early 2024 stuff interests me in the slightest.
Really only looking forward to FF7 Rebirth on that list.
Not much going on with the PlayStation front for me. I still want to get Horizon Forbidden West. Spider-Man 2 is only my list as well as Final Fantasy XVI.
I think that will pretty much catch me up on all of the PS5 exclusives until Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 Remake come around.
I may get Crisis Core for PS5 and the MGS Vol 1 Collection for PlayStation simply because it feels "right" playing those games on Sony's machine.
On the fence about MGS, though, since I still have a hardware-based backwards compatible PS3 and I also still own MGS 2, 3, and 4 (I don't have MGS1, though).
I'm absolutely nitpicking, but I can never understand this notion of clearing a backlog so you can play newer games. How about just doing both? I have a massive backlog, but if there's a release that interests me I'm buying it and playing it regardless, or maybe throwing it into the backlog too.
FF7 Rebirth and GBF is my goal now.
Ff7R is a must buy, maybe granblue if the game is good, wish platinum still making the game though, nier automata is excellent.
I'm definitely to old for this ***** 🤔
Hell, I’ve been playing my Xbox more than my PS5 lately. I beat Tinykin and am close to beating Psychonauts on Xbox due to GamePass because PS Studios haven’t given me a reason to return.
Im buying MK1 on PS though and will buy Spider-Man 2 as well. Otherwise, it’s been years since PS Studios have put out so few of games.
I don’t know what has happened to Sony, but their current outlook is VERY underwhelming.
Gonna be playing BG and Starfield on PC until Rebirth. Really hoping for some fresh VR2 announcements...
Start of the year ALWAYS busy nowadays with smaller titles trying to avoid the ready-for-xmas big hitters and some of those being delayed a few months.
I just started Lost Judgement which will no doubt take me 60 + hours (given i have kids this will take several months to get through) and have a gigantic backlog so the rush of new games will largely have to wait (spiderman and FF7 are day one's though).
Yeah I'm only really interested in FF7R
Those few couple months of 2017 were absolutely nuts. Went so hard. Persona 5 that April too, best year the PS4 had I think.
@VaultGuy415 there are VR2 games announced almost every day, you can check Twitter or Playstation youtube channel.
Only Prince of Persia I'm interested in of these so should give me chance to get any 2023 games I may miss in bedlam of Spiderman 2, Alan wake 2, alone in the dark and assassin's creed mirage and possibly Atlas fallen, diablo 4 and immortals of aveum if don't get to play them before October lol
The only game i'll be getting on that list is Persona 3 Reload. Then i'll be waiting for the next Like a Dragon.
Baldurs gate 3 , cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty, spiderman 2, probably some others I've forgot. Not thought about next year yet.
After the presser the other day regarding Tekken 8 I'm less excited about it. Looks like they're continuing the path of carving up the game into DLC chunks like Tekken 7.
Plus that special one button fighting mode was horrendous.
Granblue Fantasy Relink, Persona 3 Reload, Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth makes for a busy early 2024 and with other games like Rise of the Ronin and Metaphor ReFantazio due that year as well, 2024 looks like a good year for PS5
@rjejr Your library has PS5 games? I'm moving!
Ps5 fans aren't most of these coming to ps4 as well?? Sony new standard keep holding back the ps5 so they can milk the ps4 more
Lucky for me, none of these look interesting to me. I have plenty to play and BG3 will still be taking up my time with Spiderman 2 sprinkled in
@Sil_Am I'm hoping for exciting first-party announcements that show Sony is investing
@VaultGuy415 Well, don't expect much. Don't think they'll bring that many, though you have 3 Sony published games already on VR2, Horizon, GT7 and Firewall. Next is probably an Astrobot game.
@Panic_Attache PS5, PS4, Switch and assorted Xbox. We don't own any Xboxen so I'm not sure if they are 1 or Series games, never thought to look. Oh and a few random PS3 and Wii U games. Library only has about 2 dozen for each console, so it's not nearly the entire library, but I can almost always get 1 game to play each trip. They are due back in a week so no 100 hour open world JRPG stuff, but they also auto renew twice for a total of about 3 weeks so I can get a lot of smaller games done.
How long will it take to finish FF7R? Im really waiting on the full complete package.
Suicide Squad you don't hear or see anything about the game that isnt a good thing a lot of the time.
Persona 3 digital only so why buy it on release just wait for a massive discount you will never own it anyway.
Grandblue Relink is the one I'm exited about this is the RPG one isn't it?
I got older and I found out now if you buy early you don't get rewarded but screwed over. I'll wait a little longer and have just as much fun for a lower price. 😅👌
@Flaming_Kaiser …AND after the game has been properly patched, another advantage to playing the waiting game.
@MasterChiefWiggum Indeed you get the best version at a lower price and complete.
