A little while ago, Sony announced its plan to implement cloud streaming for PS5 games. While no timeframe was provided, it looks as though we're getting close to launch. Sony has been contacting select users — PS Plus Premium members specifically — inviting them to test out PS5 game streaming. Time to check your emails!
Once you have access to the test, you'll be able to stream PS5 games featured in the PS Plus game catalogue as well as supported titles you already own. It appears you will be able to choose a streaming resolution of up to 4K, depending on how speedy your internet connection is.
There's no word on when PS5 streaming will launch for all PS Plus Premium members, but again, the fact it's being publicly tested suggests it's not much further away. This functionality will be part of Sony's "aggressive plans" in the cloud gaming space.
Do you have access to this PS5 streaming test? Are you interested in playing PS5 games via the cloud? Float into the comments section below.

Eh? What's the point of this? If it was for demos, I could just about understand but streaming full PS5 games down to a PS5?
Mmmmm, laggy...
@BeerIsAwesome Hey, if I could stream the 2 PS5 games I'm interested in (3 years on almost) to my PS4 Pro and I could use the DS4, then I'd be all in! Could get rid of that abomination that's lurking behind the TV stand...
"It appears you will be able to choose a streaming resolution of up to 4K"
Cool, I didn't know NASA breakrooms had PS5s installed.
I've got world class, MI5 level internet and PlayStation's streaming doesn't even work well on PS3 games so I'm probably not going to use this.
Need to be able to stream to mobile devices, seems a bit pointless currently
Interesting to see more on this. Has got the potential to be really good. I’ve used Xbox’s streaming to both a phone and through the web browser and generally not had many issues.
I guess they will keep it behind the Premium tier for now?
I have 1000mbps internet and Xbox cloud streaming is decent. I will give this a try just to test the technology, not cause i prefer this method of gaming. I still buy my games digitally for PS5 and Series X.
I've beaten several PS3 games via streaming. Yes it's a bit janky at times but overall the games are totally playable. When I jumped to PS4 games I almost forgot at times I was streaming. It was only the times when I got a bit of buffering that I was reminded I wasn't playing a downloaded game.
People scoff at the technology but if you told me years ago that I'd be able to watch videos without downloading them to my device first or without using a physical disk I'd think you crazy. Technology advances quickly.
@ATaco It's true though here in the UK, we're finally getting the option (a VERY expensive option) of Gigabit internet connections at home. BUT a Gigabit connection is only as good as the server dishing up data at the far end and its network connection speed plus any contention issues meaning that the 1GB/s connection might only be receiving data at about 100MB/s or even less.
GeForce Now is currently the best streaming service. Sony and Microsoft will have to make a lot of effort if they want to have the quality of streaming that GeForce Now has
@sanderson72 I'm £40 a month for a gigabit line here.. I'd hardly say that's very expensive. Was around £30 for a FTTC line.
It's just waiting on availability that's the problem imo.
Either way. 40mb or 400mb. Latency is the killer for game streaming
This is an utter dead end for 90% of people until internet infrastructure improves drastically.
@sanderson72 Guess you've never heard of remote play on PS4 to PS5
Such a "premium" feature.
@sanderson72 I get 1 gig up and down for £29.99, that's not expensive at all for fttp
Sony may want to first address the many reports that PS5s got so hot during EVO that they melted the rear USB ports and destroyed anything attached to them, and in some cases ripped out portions of the system when pulling attached devices out due to the heat stress.
Maybe look into that before rolling out another half-baked service or cash grab peripheral......
Any word on Android and iOS support?
Seems even more bizarre the the Q-lite reportedly won't allow this.
@NotSoCryptic Yes, that's your PS4 talking to your PS5. This is streaming from a server at a point on the internet to your PS4 - depends on their latency, network speeds, contention ratio and so on.
@Martsmall Blimey that is cheap - who's that with? And is it a fixed term deal?
@sanderson72 Lila connect , it's for the whole.of my 18 month contract ,and they gave me free Internet for a few months while I was still in contract with vm
@Martsmall Good to know - shame they're not in my area yet. Looks like they're as far east as Uttoxeter so they just need to keep coming east!
@sanderson72 hopefully they get to your area ,it's well worth it ,I've had it since march and the biggest downtime I've had is 2 minutes back in April , when I was with VM it would go down for a few hours at least 3 times a month for a few hours
