Confirming a leak from earlier in the year, Sonic Superstars will indeed be heading our way on 17th October, 2023. Flippin' heck, October is busy.
The news comes at the end of this new trailer for the side-scrolling platformer, with an emphasis on the game's multiplayer aspects. While you can play the game solo, it's also fully playable in up to four player co-op. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy each have their own abilities, and can all take advantage of the new powers imbued by the Chaos Emeralds as you collect them.
In addition to co-op, the game features a battle mode, a competitive mode that has you creating custom characters and either racing through stages or knocking each other off-screen. It looks like good, light-hearted fun, and it's not far off, launching in just a couple of months.

Interesting strategy to release a few days before Mario...
Coop Sonic sounds like fun
That’s a bold release date. Might as well just release it next February for like $10 and save themselves some embarrassment.🤷🏻♂️
Assassin's Creed, Sonic and Spider-Man. Boy oh boy I'm going to be busy.
@Mauzuri "But that competition against Mario on Switch really will be a tough one, I will agree on that much"
Yeah I was going more for 4 player 2D sidescroller couch rivals than Spiderman 2, which may slow sales a little on PS but the Switch peeps are mostly gonna wait 3 days for Mario Wonder.
If there was no Wonder on Switch I'd probably buy Spiderman 2 for myself and Sonic for my family at release on PS5, but I already have Wonder pre-ordered so Sonic can wait for a sale. I bought Sonic Frontier for my kid at Christmas 3 weeks after release for $20 off, $40 instead of $60. I can wait.
Gonna love playing this with my nephews…but Spider-Man 2 first!
Looks good! A nice return to the classic formula, with some much needed coop multiplayer, and added modes!
Likely won't purchase, because Baldur's Gate 3, but for those who will, it looks fun.
Hopefully it'll make its eventual way to plus!
@Mauzuri I know. Sonic frontiers is easily best Sonic they have made in ages, and easily one of my favourite Sonic games. They designed the open world great and you can go as fast as you want depending on his speed level. In other games he can’t utilise his speed apart from Unleashed during a few levels
@J2theEzzo You can buy both when ever though. I’ll be busy with Spider man 2 and Endless dungeon in October so I will wait for Sonic
@Mauzuri I see, the guardians and bosses are pretty annoying at first but once you get to know their attack patterns etc they get easier to beat. Just more annoying during boss fights as every time you get hit you lose rings and during some of the fights you can’t replenish them so you get defeated and have to restart the fight over. I enjoyed Frontiers a lot more when I got used to everything
@Dragoon1994 If only it were that simple! Already pre-oedered BG3, and if Divinity is anything to go by- this'll be the only game I play for the next year... with a little Diablo sprinkled on top! 😉
