Sony's big summer sale brought us deals on lots of PS5 games and accessories, but crucially, the console itself saw a nice price drop. Us Brits love nothing more than a bargain, and the combo of sales on hardware and software has brought the platform holder's games back into the boxed top 10.
God of War Ragnarok, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Gran Turismo 7 have all had a major uptick in sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively. Meanwhile, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has jumped back to number one, driven largely by PS5 bundles.
Elsewhere, FIFA 23 is holding steady in second, Hogwarts Legacy is down a couple of spots into fourth, and Grand Theft Auto V rounds things out in 10th. Forspoken also made a big jump up the chart, almost managing a top 10 result in 12th.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.

Pikmin 4 > GTA V
This list looks more like it came from a year ago rather than Aug. 2023. Miles Morales? GT7? Forspoken?!
FFXVI is conspicuously absent. 🤔 (Not to mention other big games from this year - Jedi, RE4, etc.)
Good to see god of war and grand theft auto on the list.spiderman miles morales is cool also.new york represent.word up son
@Th3solution That's what sales do.
@Th3solution FF16 was number 34. It should be gone next week.
@StrawberryTurtle @AdamNovice True. The fact these older games outpaced new releases would suggest that there’s a combination of a lot of new console owners + older console owners who are fine waiting on price drops.
New games don’t seem to be staying in the top 10 for long (outside of Nintendo products), so there’s the big rush from the enthusiasts for the first couple weeks and then games plummet for a while until they go on sale. Seems to have happened for FF16, Diablo 4, RE4, Jedi Survivor, etc. The only 2023 release that seems to have held on for any length of time is Hogwarts. And FIFA
Just an observation: it's humorous to me that people cried about strong reported sales for HFW 'not counting' because of bundles, but I never see the same dismissiveness directed at GoW Ragnarok.
@Triumph741 I know. It's beautiful, isn't it?
Glad to see Pikmin still hanging around the top ten.
If you'd told me in the mid-2000s that Spider-Man, God of War, GTA5 and LEGO games were still a thing, I'd have gone "No way, there would be newer greater games by then". Sadly this is not the case. Although they're great games it's a sign that stagnation is a thing above all else. Here, and in movies.
@Th3solution Well that's good, I see a "wait for the sales and the patches" mentality may finally be starting to happen. Because really, slow sales soon after launch might finally teach publishers to let developers finish them before releasing.
@deathaxe I think people have been saying this is the last generation with physical releases since tail end of PS3 era. I believe it's more because although physical releases are going away from a certain point of view including yours, there's plenty of places with poor broadband access or speeds or both where disc releases are key, and will be more readily available.
@zekepliskin and you can re sell it and you can still play your game when they shut down the shop updates, etc.
I'll always choose physical over digital. I won't do any of that silly waiting a year for some limited edition release or another...but if it's available on the first week I'll get that instead.
@Cashews "you can re sell it and you can still play your game when they shut down the shop updates, etc."
Yeah although that's becoming a little less possible now due to update patches etc still requiring servers. Case in point, a load of PS3 games I have still ask for an update, whether they're downloaded or disc copies. The complexity comes when all that gets switched off... the PS3 is getting close to that 20 year old milestone so who knows...
@zekepliskin yes, that is because Sony sucks when they do that. Nintendo doesn't do that. So our conversation really applies to s*** companies who take games completely offline or ship bad product.
@TrickyDicky99 Horzion and God of War both sold over 20 million, yet Ragnarok outsold FW in a month. That tells you how much Horzion was boosted by bundles, that’s an insane discrepancy.
@StrawberryTurtle the first thing I did when I bought the new console a few months ago was pick up Elden Ring. It was the only time I've felt real fomo was when it released.
when you buy a new console there are ajust a few you HAVE to get.
@Th3solution digital is a thing they don't show those numbers
