Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 has looked pretty damn promising in every gameplay snippet we've seen so far, and now it feels like the hype for this long-awaited sequel has just reached new heights. Previews from Gamescom are starting to trickle online, and based on everything we've read, there's real reason to be excited.
Said previews all seem to heap praise on the game's combat system, which sees main character Titus combine extremely punchy guns with absolutely brutal chainsword slashes. Apparently, gunplay and melee attacks are more closely linked in Space Marine 2, so face-to-face fights often have you staggering enemies with bullets before finishing the job with your trusty chainsword. IGN says that the game "falls somewhere between Gears of War and DOOM", which certainly sounds like an enticing mix.
Next up, the title's visuals are getting a lot of attention. GameSpot mentions an impressive level of detail, in both the environments and the character models. The Gamescom demo is also incredibly busy, with the game rendering hordes of enemies across large, mud-and-blood-soaked battlefields. GameSpot's video preview is well worth a look if you want to see just how chaotic and visually intense combat can become (although it's worth noting that this is footage taken from a PC build of the game).
Obviously we don't know much about the story and how it's presented just yet, but again, these early impressions are very positive. Space Marine 2 doesn't have a release date at the time of writing — just a vague '2023' window — but we're hoping that confirmation isn't far off.

Yeah well up for this… gutted I missed the first one on PS3 (and would love a remaster of that too tbh) but I’m already sold on this sequel, looks incredible!
Day 1 for me. For the Emperor!
I am very excited for this game. I absolutely love Warhammer 40K and I wished for a sequel to Space Marine. It may have taken a very long time, but it's happening and I'm voting with my wallet accordingly, so I get a Space Marine 3!!
Can’t wait! Looks like it scratches that Gears of War itch and then some.
World War Z was brilliant, I expect the same level for this from Sabre.
This will be my gears of war alternative since I've never owned an xbox
Hoping campaign coop doesn't detract anything away from playing the campaign in single player. Also trophies are sometimes affected by multiplayer, having to rely on others for trophies hugely irritates me. Not saying adding coop is a bad thing, just hoping it doesn't effect single player in anyway. Used to annoy me playing Dead Island 1 in single player and then watching the cutscenes thinking to myself where the f*** did you magically appear from, you wasn't there at all while I was playing the game these last couple hours wtf
PushSquare review 7/10. And yes I have a Time Machine.
@Beerheadgamer82 Looking at the preview videos seems like you'll be with bots instead. Hopefully you won't have to babysit them and can just get on with the campaign at your own pace. First Space Marine was a brilliant single player game, I'm betting this will be just as good, if not better!
@JB_Whiting in the gamespot article that's linked here, it briefly goes over the coop when in single player campaign saying something like the bot partners feel more useful rather than useless, like they'll help you up when you get floored which I think means reviving you when almost dying. Still very much looking forward to it as I also adored the first one on PS3. Sometimes just get a little concerned when coop is added to single player campaigns. Just hope it doesn't release in a super busy month full of many other must plays
Recently dug out my PS3 to play the first game (and some other good old stuff) and it's still an awesome game. Part 2 will be great as well.
Been looking forwards to this for ages, looks like it will be awesome!
Little disappointed they didn't bring back Mark Strong but I absolutely love the first one. The campaign was great and the arena wave multiplayer was a blast. If this game can capture that fun again I'll be in heaven.
Thank god can't wait
