With the new NFL season getting underway this week, EA Sports really wants you to give Madden NFL 24 a chance. In fact, the juggernaut publisher has made the unprecedented move to give the game a free weekend – less than a month after its launch. Starting now through 10th September, you can play the entire title for free, with no limitations or restrictions.
Your immediate reaction may be to assume that the game isn’t selling well, but the Redwood Shores organisation insists that isn’t the case. A press release claims that the latest game set a new single-week franchise record for digital units sold at launch, which is a bit of a wishy-washy statement considering downloadable purchases increase on console every year.
In other loosely related news, the Baltimore Ravens have rocketed to the top of the game’s most used teams list, with newly signed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr leading the list of most touchdown catches. We liked the game enough in our Madden NFL 24 PS5 review, describing it as another five yards forward for the franchise.

Or... I could spend my weekend finally watching football again.👍
I think this would have been a better choice last weekend before the season started, though admittedly a lot of people in the US were on 3 day holiday weekend.
3-day holiday weekend is a great reason to play.
But with college football Saturday and NFL Sunday, when is there time to play Madden? A free mid-week period would work better for me. There's barely time to play, between the games to watch and the microtransaction ads to click through on startup.
So is new Madden the same Madden as last years Madden only with a few small changes that does nothing to alleviate the anger that customers have been pointing towards over the years that need fixing? I ask because I saw a Angry Joe video pop up on my YouTube and he didn’t look too pleased so I’m guessing no 😂
Not to pile on Joe, but it’s becoming a yearly thing that he goes mental over the failings of the game whilst making it known he bought the premium package when something goes wrong and gets angry that they do this to him, again. Everyone’s spinning around in a room then complaining that they feel dizzy type mentality
Lego 2K Drive is also free this weekend, there's a PS Stars collectible for playing it too.
My buddy and I were taking about how we haven’t played madden in over a decade and I had an itch to get the new one. I was on the fence and probably would have held out till the end of the season and picked it up and just casually play it when it inevitably drops to like 20$. I however am very much enjoying this trial a lot and will more than likely pick it up now much sooner then later. Might be five yards forward from last years edition… but it’s exceptionally better then the last one I played on PS3. Kinda excited to dive in actual. Good on EA for a trial at the beginning of the year… should be the model for all sports games. It sold me
Only reason I’d ever use the Ravens would be because of Mr. Zay Flowers. So bummed my team passed on him. Gonna be a stud
I have ‘EA Play’, which includes a 10-hour trial of the game? If I play during the weekend promo, wonder of that still counts against my 10 hours? (Can’t find a specific answer on that.)
@BusyOlf did you watch It? He bought the premium version, turns the games on.... first screen, buy more, second screen buy more, before getting to the main menu, it prompts you to ultimate team.
There are 4 or 5 different currencies.
The menus run at 4fps and can be unresponsive.
Refs have been highlighted but Joe shows a clip from a nfl game years ago with the same animations.
They claim with the new slogans that the skeletons have been revamped and collision and then Joe shows a clip of the animations clipping and deforming constantly, same exact animation every time someone gets injured.
The list goes on and on.
