Well, it's time to talk about the PS5 and PS4 release schedule for 2024, because with the announcement that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will launch near the end of January, we're officially in the realms of stupidity. As of right now, we're looking at a January-February-March stretch that's simply an embarrassment of riches — and that's without even thinking about the rest of the year.
Here's the current, early 2024 schedule, just to emphasise how ridiculous it is:
- Alone in the Dark - 16th January
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown - 18th January
- Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth - 26th January
- Tekken 8 - 26th January
- Granblue Fantasy: Relink - 1st February
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League - 2nd February
- Persona 3 Reload - 2nd February
- Helldivers 2 - 8th February
- Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft - 14th February
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - 29th February
- Unicorn Overlord - 8th March
- Under Night In-Birth II [Sys:Celes] - Q1
And then we move beyond the first quarter:
- Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - 23rd April
- Black Myth: Wukong - Q3
- Lost Soul Aside - 2024
- Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 - 2024
- Rise of the Ronin - 2024
- Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars - 2024
- Star Wars Outlaws - 2024
- Pacific Drive - 2024
- Blue Protocol - 2024
- The Plucky Squire - 2024
- Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess - 2024
- Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Reforged - 2024
- Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail - 2024
- Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP - 2024
- Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean - 2024
- Baby Steps - 2024
- Little Nightmares 3 - 2024
- Thank Goodness You're Here! - 2024
- Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon - 2024
And again, this is just the start. We're guaranteed a number of additional announcements before the end of this year, and then once we're into next year, we'll no doubt be hearing much more about the plans of big publishers — which includes the likes of Sony.
2023 has obviously been a crazy year for gaming — arguably one of the best in a long time — and now it looks like that momentum will carry straight through the first few months of 2024, and possibly beyond.

As a fan of RPGs, 2024 is where I go broke.
Is it bad that I'm probably most excited for the Tomb Raider remasters?
Star Wars Outlaws could be a) very good, or b) very broken - we'll see on that.
Game over, man. Game over.
Wow, between my PS5 and my Switch its looking hella stacked next year already.
It would be great if we had some actual idea about what the first party teams were up to after Spider-Man 2
I wouldn't worry about Suicide Squad - after that disastrous gameplay reveal back in Easter, I think it's well and truly jumped off the cliff....Unless Rocksteady pulled an almighty joke and the real gameplay is astounding 🙂
A nice pack of games, but no huuge stars at sight. Maybe FF Rebirth? But nothing else with the hype levels of GOW, an RDR/GTA, Spiderman nor something from Naughty Dog or From Software (A DLC does not count) as in the past few years.
Star Wars could be very good or very bad game, but expecting at most a Hogwarts Legacy level of reception, not much more
This is why I'll never understand those that say "PS5 lacks reasons to buy one".
I wonder where Stellar Blade will fit in if delayed from the current 2023 release window.
And none of them are first party games, whats going on over there Sony?
@AdamNovice because how many of those games are actually system sellers and actual big, popular, games that many people care about? A handful, at most.
Plus, a lot of these games are coming to other systems (whether PS4 or a different company).
When the Nintendo Switch, at the end of its lifespan, has more 1st party exclusives, then there is probably an issue.
@PaperAlien Games take 6 years to develop, that's what's going on. Considering most first party studios released something in the last 3 years, it's gonna take a while before we see something new from them.
Sony could have had some games between big hitters if they hadn't closed Japan Studio, like the idiots they are.
@AdamNovice Well most of those games are still coming to PS4 as well (and other plattforms).
When people say "PS5 lacks reasons to buy one" then they mean there aren't many exclusive games. If I'm not mistaken the only current PS5 exclusive game is FF16. And even that one has a PC port in development
But there is ofc the upcoming Spider-Man 2 and FF7Rebirth
Removed - trolling/baiting
@AdamNovice well, all kinds of these statements are exaggerated a bit. But many people still buy consoles because of first-party games they like. And in this term 2023 is not great. Especially in comparison with amount of Xbox games released, even if some of them are Redfall...
The lack of first party games is concerning. Hopefully Sony are just playing things close to the chest and have a few unannounced surprises for us. Particularly for PSVR2.
A good chunk of these are also coming to PS4, right? The real MVP lol
@Sil_Am This will likely make PS5 the generation to forget given all those cross gen title, between now and the time they release PS5 successor, many of these titles will likely again be cross gen with the new one, leaving the PS5 with few games made specifically for it.
Tekken and FF7 for me, maybe Prince of Persia, depending on how it reviews. I’ve liked what I’ve seen, but not loved, you know? For me, it’s a solid start to the year, but not nearly as crazy as this year has been. There’s a few 2024 titles I’m contemplating but, outside Plucky Squire, that’s about it that’s essential to me at the moment. That could change. I could see Pacific Drive being compelling and, you know, the Souls-esque titles could be interesting to me, but also not, depending on how Souls they are. Not going to pretend I’ll jump into Like a Dragon or Persona, but if you’re a fan of those series and FF, I can see where that release line-up may seem overloaded.
Yea it's a joke because there's not a first party game in sight.
tekken 8 and ff7 rebirth for sure , maybe persona 3 at some point , but i have so many times i've started i gotta finish up before i dive into another long story game.
I'm getting Infinite Wealth in January and Rebirth in February. Feels stacked enough already with just those two games, can't imagine taking on more.
I only see Helldivers 2 and maybe Lara Croft remasters. Else just doesn't interest me or I don't know what the games are. So not much for me, but I hope Sony to release at least one exclusive in spring time.
@TabulaRasa i'm guessing the title proves who reads the title and comments with out reading the article.
@UltimateOtaku91 Same! How do I get the extra time to sleep next year. Hmm...
Meh, hardly an embarrassment of riches...
I just want to learn more about the PS5 Pro in 2024. Is it real? Are the leaked specs real? When is it launching if it’s real? If it’s real and does 4K 60 like butter, i will for sure buy it. If it could run diablo 4 at 4K 120 i would happy dance in my media room. I liked the one X and PS4 Pro. Are they needed? Thats a subjective question but if they are coming out i will buy them and MS has already said no. Sony don’t let me down, bring the power in 2024.
hopefully we'll hear more about silent hill and rise of ronnin soon.
Ff7R and Granblue Fantasy for me! I'll likely get PS Portal as well.
Is it just me or is the January-March schedule not that special? Besides FF I don’t see anything interesting and quantity wise it’s rather standard as well?
@AdamNovice Because, aside from FF7, none of these require a PS5. shrug And judging by the short exclusivity date, even that could go multiplat within the year.
@__jamiie My exact thoughts. Where the frik is Astrobot on VR2? I just don't get it.
@Diowine Hogwarts is considered game of the year and still the best selling game this year. What better reception can you expect?
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Persona 3 Reload will keep me busy for a while. Great start to the new year but I hope a couple big PS5 exclusives get revealed for later in the year.
Pretty crazy start to the year. Really hyped to see Like a Dragon 8 releasing in January.
People acting like seven high profile games releasing in the space of a month isn't crazy. You lot are mental!
@RunGMhx For me it's not the generation to forget. There are some amazing games. This is the side effect of similar architecture and backwards compatibility. What you gain with back compat, you lose in exclusivity, but I don't mind it. I'm happy even if I play PS4 games with better framerate, resolution and improved load times on my PS5. Also, there are tons of PS5/Series X only games, if you care to look beyond the more popular games.
I wouldn't be surprised if the first party studios will start releasing games after March 2024, at least it would make sense to me.
There are 4 games I definitely want from the January-March lineup. Then there are games I want on the Switch too. Gaming is really trying to get my money. 😑
I'll be grabbing Like A Dragon. With PS4 and Switch winding down, it's a great time to work on my backlog!
Just with Like a Dragon and FF7 Rebirth alone, the beginning of 2024 is packed for me.
@Bamila, yes it is selling a lot as expected. FIFA, Madden, NBA 2k and COD are always among the best selling games every year, but they are far from the game of the year discussion. Hogwarts is considered game of the year by whom? I get that it is selling well, but definitively not game of the year. There is no way it will beat Baldur's Gate 3, Tears of the Kingdom, Starfield, FFXVI or even RE4 this year, and we still don't know about Spidey 2 with all the hype behind.
Hey it was a great game, did better than I expected, just saying that it is not at the level of the GOTY winners in the last decade, other than maybe It Takes Two.
So where are all these exclusives that PlayStation has that Xbox doesn’t?
@PlayStationGamer3919 I would be surprised if Wolverine launches next year. I’d say 2025 is more likely, but who knows?
I am looking forward to the car-crash of Suicide Squad !
Looking at the list of games coming, I can honestly say that 'few' appeal to me and certainly not many that I am really excited for and can't wait to play.
Despite not really knowing enough about Star Wars: Outlaws, that is the game I'm most interested in and most likely to buy/play too. Black Myth: Wukong has me very interested in it too as I really enjoy the story that inspired it (Journey to the West) but I'm not really a fan of the Souls-like game-play loop. Alone in the Dark is the only other game in the list that I am interested in but haven't seen/heard enough to consider whether or not its something I want to play.
That's not to say that other games may 'interest' me and/or appeal more as we get closer to launch. I'm not currently interested in 'old' games being ported to 'new' hardware - at least not without a modern update of 'everything' - like Dead Space, not just 'visuals' or 'resolution' so Tomb Raider doesn't really appeal despite me loving the IP and playing these years ago but maybe it will closer to release.
I expect there to be more games that appeal to me and know of several 'expected' in 2024 not on this list - of course some are not on the list because of they platform they are releasing on or marketed by (Avowed, Hellblade 2, Stalker 2 and multi-platform inc PS - Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn etc) and No doubt there will be many other 3rd Party games too coming but not yet revealed for 2024 that will appeal so not concerned that 'few' in the above list appeal to ME!!
I'd rather see a list of 100 games with only a handful that really excite me than just a Handful of games where most, if not all appeal to me. It shows a more diverse collection of games and a productive industry and whilst some games have little/no appeal 'now', just means they have the greatest potential to surprise me...
@Decoy_Snake
Ghosts of Tsushima 2
Last of us 3
Last of us factions
Concord
Horizon 3
Horizon multiplayer game
Twisted metal
Untitled horror game
Fairgames$
MLB the show 24
The only thing that is unknown is what bend, Santa Monica, housemarque, asobi, bluepoint and media molecule are up to
@Tomato_Goose Sony will have released 3 first party games in 2023- Horizon: Cotm , Firewall ultra and Spiderman 2. Sure if you only like AAA, then there's only spidey. But to say Sony have released nothing this year is factually incorrect.
@ShogunRok It's more to do with the lack of first party games.
Not a fan of mp games ,but helldivers 2 looks great
@mariomaster96 " People say there aren't reasons enough to buy a PS5" lmao what people? The forum dwellers on enthusiast sites like these who keep crying 24*7 at just about everything? Lol.
Look at the real world pal, PS5 is the best selling console this generation and is on track to outsell PS4. And while yes, some exclusives have launched on PC, many of those games also released first on PS5.
@PlaystationGamer3919.... Helldivers 2 and Concord are both stated for 2024, Death Stranding 2 release date will probably be 2024, and Rise of the Ronin also has a 2024 window.
No first party games?
Meh, only curious about Star Wars: Outlaws. This line up is perhaps exciting for japanese style enthusiasts
@jimbouk yeah not sure dlc counts
I mean that looks like a good year to me, never mind a good month or two.
@Toot1st, Horizon: Call of the Mountain which I listed is a full fledged first party game for PSVR2 that Firesprite released this year.
Horizon Burning Shores on the other hand, is specifically a DLC which I didn't even bother to mention. Maybe do some basic research eh?
Cat Quest 3 in year 2024.
I LOVE IT !! 😄
@lightningbolt79 exactly... there's nothing exciting for me on that list...
@jimbouk sure, you are right. We can also remember HFW addon released this year. All of them are great games and it is hard to deliver so many games all the time. But during PS4 era we've got so many awesome stuff throughout each year (except for the launch, I guess) that I am a little bit sad nowadays. I'm in love with nearly all titles from Playstation Studios and there are hardly other games on the market which stand on the same level of quality. Hope this year is just silence before the storm... but with so little communication with players from Sony we are completely unaware of what comes next. Even in terms of one year.
What really is a joke is the lack of first party releases, particularly for PSVR2. Just make smaller, high quality games (uncharted lost legacy, anyone?) and stop chasing the live service gravy train.
Thats a lot of games.the more games the better.word up son
@Tomato_Goose But the Ps4 became a must buy with only the release of Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 which were released in year 2 & 3 respectively. By comparison PS5 has had a much better library in its 3 years, not to mention several high profile third party exclusives that PS4 was lacking in its early years.
We also have a pretty good idea of what's on the horizon:
Wolverine ( reportedly targetting late 2024)
DS2
Stellar Blade
Rise of The Ronin
Lost Soul Aside
Helldivers 2
Concord
FF7 Rebirth
Silent Hill 2
Granblue Fantasy Relink.
Many of these games are already targeting a 2024 window.
Most of them will be delayed to 2025 surely
It's not a very funny joke. I am sure a lot of people are crying for their impending empty wallets and destruction of their social life.
DRAGON'S DOGMA 2!!!!!! 😃😃😃😃😃
Great start to the year for me personally. Lots there Im looking forward to jumping into.
@Anthony_Daniels we only know that 3 of those actually exist - alongside Wolverine - although MLB is nailed on. Sony need to start showing the future of Playstation.
I’m still most looking forward to “The Plucky Squire” which should be out early next year I think and that FF7R trailer was bonkers good. My kid has only cared about Silksong since they finished FF16. 😂
It’s weird Sony doesn’t have a March game, they always have a March game, feels like Uncharted 5 would be this year if that were a thing. I’m ok it isn’t that series had run its course but it will be missed on the release schedule. Didn’t much care for TLOU2 so not too excited for 3.
I’m really just outgrowing gaming, there’s not a thing from the last Nintendo Direct I’ll play since they left Wonder out of it. Funny how Spider-Man and Wonder are the same day and then it just feels like I’m waiting on Switch 2 and Wolverine.
Not a huge amount for me personally but that's okay, my backlog has blown up once again....
What I am excited for- Tekken 8, Elden Ring expansion, FF7-2. I don't know if I'll get any of these day one but we'll see.
@ShogunRok Dont think People are really saying that at all, no doubt its a grand list of games, but these aren't "playstation" games like the headlne infers, barring one game these are all being released on Xbox, PC, Switch and most of them are still being released on last gen as well. People are just poking fun of that really, and also Sony have been V quiet on the 1st party front for next year and beyond, which is unusual really.
Sorry, but maybe 2-3 games from that list looks promising to me, lack of true big and fat AAA titles is painful.
Jan definitely Tekken 8
February too stacked, after that showcase Granblue Fantasy Relink seems to be a sleeper hit for J-rpg fans next day Persona 3 and end of the month FF7 Rebirth! Also Helldivers 2 & Suicide Squad (still an Rocksteady game). Pffff.
Looking forward to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for PS5.
I'll be getting Alone in the Dark for Xbox as it's my preferred platform for non-exclusive games.
I'm interested in Like a Dragon, but I still have to play 3 - 7. Prince of Persia looks like it will be up my alley.
Not much else on the list strikes my fancy: though I do agree it's a busy period. The next several months are just packed with games!
@AdamNovice if you have a ps4 pro there isn’t much of a reason imo.
What kind of name is Under Night In-Birth II [Sys:Celes]?
@BaldBelper78 not in that list, but Sony could wait 2/3 years without releasing any more PS exclusives and still would have more and better exclusives than Xbox Series', at least until Bethesda's exclusives start coming, which don't seem to be happening soon enough.
@Anthony_Daniels the rumor going around is a sci fi rpg for san monica's game that corey is working on, everything else is rumor atm , but the other big one is firesprite working on a horror game. not to mention not much is known about bluepoint and asobi and what games they are working on, also throwing in the game sony bend is working on. insomnaic already said they are working on a 3rd game that isn't wolvrine or spiderman. in terms of games there are plenty of games that are being worked on.
That's a long list of Nope! With only one definitive Yes. FF7 Rebirth.
I am not really into the lineup. On top of a maybe spectacular 2023 then 2024 might just be a filler year. I don't personally need it to be stacked since I have an embarrassment of a backlog to clear.
The only game on that list that has me curious is Star Wars outlaws.
That’s ok though. I’ve such a massive backlog between my series X, PS5, Switch and Steam deck I’ve more than enough to get on with.
Sorry backlog, many of you are about to get lost in a bigger pile. I may forget you, I may not find you but just know that one day, just someday, I may get to play you
@Diowine
Exactly, Hogwarts Legacy is a fun game, with lots of nostalgic beats, and an OK story, but should not be in the running for GOTY
JRPG's galore, loving it so much.
In early 2024 I want alone in the dark, granblue fantasy relink, persona 3 reload, tomb raider remaster, ff7 rebirth, and of course I want unicorn overlord.
Man, my wallet will be in so much pain next year, not including new ssd that I have to buy to store all this games
Grandblue Fantasy Relink (I like the combat system but it's an RPG I have no interest in), Little Nightmares 3, Star Wars Outlaws, Blue Protocol, Helldivers 2, FF7 Rebirth, Plucky Squire.
Broken Sword, Tomb Raider remasters, Suikoden collection, Unicorn, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess are pretty cool.
(had to look Kunitsu-Gami up and saw strategy game which made me think Tactics or Pikmin style then more 4X or Strategy in general, may be interested in but no idea I know nothing about it really. Artstyle seems fine, I care for gameplay not art unless UI elements annoy me or the art is distracting in the level design but it seems fine. I mean don't care where Disagea 7 is set it's fine, I'm playing for the gameplay and writing anyways).
Maybe Lollipop Chainsaw I care for as a hack n slash/beat em up newcomer to more interested with the few series played and beaten I might as well dip into some Grasshopper IPs and been wanting to. I hope they don't change too much though. I mean I bought Wanted Dead as a Devil's Third successor and happy enough with it.
Otherwise not much here. Interesting stuff but anything "I'd" play no. The ones I find cool are what other people I know will play, games I think are cool and see the appeal but otherwise not for me.
I realize this is a British website, but as an American I am baffled by the disconnect between the headline and the content... sarcasm? Do we define "stupid" and "joke" differently? I clicked this expecting to see a paltry slate of games and instead it looks pretty darn good. Help me I'm an idiot Texan who takes everything literally
Due to delays we now have jam packed starts to the year, but very little in the traditional Christmas sales period.
Yeah, im going to have to do some saving up lol.
The Must Buys For Me Are :
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Helldivers 2
Lost Soul Aside
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP
Persona 3 Reload
Might Get Tekken 8 Depends if my Fighting Game Friend Buys It so we can play some rounds together
Probably only 4 games I want, tbh.
@MegaManX-7 you know what's up brother happy gaming and stay groovy 😎
Not a single game on this list I'm excited for until Q4.
Only see a few for me, by joke I thought you meant it would be sparse but even if you meant overwhelming there is a 100% chance many of these slip.
@BaldBelper78 Helldivers is exclusive just like the first game. Else, I guess there won't be a first party game until autumn
@JJtheTexan by that sentence he means that the January to march months are so packed with high caliber games that it's just actually stupid (for many wallets). Only two games for me tho. Star wars maybe and defo Helldivers
Seems a fairly underwhelming list imo but I barely have time to touch my PS5 these days so it's just as well.
@jimbouk nobody cares about vr and dlc isnt a game release
Dry year it appears, only thing on there interesting to me at all is Rise of the Ronin.
Way to many remakes, #2 bs of games that were bs...
A bunch of trash anime type games....
Good, I'll be saving up for decent games instead...
@Bamila Sorry, have to be the "I told you" guy.
So is Hogwarts Legacy still considered the GOTY as you passionately claimed? Not even in the nominees apparently.
Just remembered about this post because I heard a guy asking for it in the nominees. But hey, with all honesty, maybe it should have been at least nominated, maybe instead of Mario Wonder, but definitively not winning.
@Diowine yeah, it's contender. I would rate them:
1. Alan wake 2
2. Re4
3. Baldurs gate
4. Spiderman 2
5. Zelda
6. Hogwarts
@Bamila interesting that you rated Alan Wake 2 as 1st. Been really wanting to try that one, but still haven't found the strength. Just finished RE4 and wanted a more lighthearted game next. But definitively will get it sooner rather than later
Only games I plan on getting in 2024
Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
Silent Hill 2 Remake
I will just play my library of PS+ games that I have added to my account over the years?
I must have 100+ I haven't played lol
