13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Dragon's Crown developer Vanillaware has announced its next game is a stunning tactical RPG that goes by the name of Unicorn Overlord. It's coming to PS5 and PS4 on 8th March 2024, and you can check out the announcement trailer above.
As footage reveals, this is a turn-based strategy RPG in the vein of a Fire Emblem title, where you will command armies and recruit up to 60 characters for your cause. You'll also be able to head online for some multiplayer battles, as the trailer reveals. What are your first impressions of Unicorn Overlord? Share them in the comments below.

Vanillaware never misses.
Terrible name, but it looks great. On the watchlist.
Nice. Vanillaware is probably my favourite developer so I'm always happy to hear about their new projects.
Very cool, was a highlight of the Direct for me. Looks to be in good hands too
This looks amazing! Vanillaware is back again!
This game looked really awesome on the direct. best 3rd party game I saw.
That's a Japanese video game title if I've ever seen one lol.
@Fight_Teza_Fight my thoughts exactly lol. Surely can't be that hard to come up with something interesting that isn't corny
Best game of the direct for me. It sucks SEGA is treating their ps fans like idiots who are going to buy whatever they release even when SEGA is alienating them but if this has a physical release like 13 sentinels I will gladly buy a copy from the grey market.
N.i.c.e. vanillaware games always got that extremely beautiful art style.unicorn overlord looks impressive. A turn based strategy rpg.cool.word up son
Physical release? I own all Vanillaware games released on PS4 so far.
Nice, be scooping that up right away
Reminds me of Ogre Battle 64 right down to a blue haired protagonist. Send it my way.
Looks like Vanillaware is back to fantasy. Isn’t really to my taste, but then the only Vanillaware game that has been was 13 sentinels.
Almost looks like Ogre Battle 64 which I did like so if it reviews well I might get it.
The style looks fantastic once again I love it.
Atlus accounting for all my 2024 game purchases so far.
@Sil_Am @GymratAmarillo I believe there will be a physical release, I found this from gematsu.
In the west, a standard edition and Collector’s Edition of Unicorn Overlord will be available. The latter will include a copy of the game, a Premium Edition Box, 16-bit arrange music album (two discs with ten tracks on each), 132-page artbook, and an original card game featuring 239 cards, tokens, and markers.
Vanillaware will always have a special places in my heart and my my library. Looking forward to it!
Count me out if it's the "action kind" of tactics game like diofield chronicles or Project X Zone.
This looks pretty rad. I never love Vanillaware games, I always think the gameplay isn't quite there for me, but a tactical RPG seems like a great fit for them to me. I'm definitely interested in this.
I'm vanillaware fan so of course I'll get this one too
So basically Vanillaware’s take on Fire Emblem? I’m in!
@GymratAmarillo what has Sega done wrong? Just because they promote their multiplatform games (that are on PlayStation) on other systems?
wow. vanillaware still has top tier 2d animation art.
there is a Shining Force feel there, i really like it.
Instant pre-order from me. Vanillaware are one of my favorite developers. Long may they continue with their success.
More Vanillaware games? Yes please. This game looks awesome.
I'll buy and play anything Vanillaware makes. I just hope they make a new action game soon.
Man this company just gets better and better
Vanillaware = Day 1 Buy
I see no collectors edition to buy im guessing its atlus store exclusive?
I like that they made it look like dragons crown meets diofield
