If the bevy of Star Ocean titles about to hit PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium aren't enough for you, a newly published PS5, PS4 demo for upcoming remake Star Ocean: The Second Story R should be on your radar. Available to download now ahead of the game's November launch, you'll be able to sample three hours of the JRPG. While you wait, a lengthy gameplay trailer has also been uploaded by Square Enix for you to watch — viewable above.
The demo includes the beginning of the game up until you complete Krosse Cave. "Experience the field areas depicted in the new graphical style, the new systems incorporated into the combat, and more besides, the PS Store listing states. Your progress and character levels will carry over into the final game should you keep your save from the demo, which is out for PS5, PS4 on 2nd November 2023.
Will you check out this demo? Let us know in the comments below.

Was going to check it out but then reading the article I remembered I played the original game when it launched so I’m good.
Surprised they didn’t wait to release this until after announcing it in the SoP.
Is the narrator reading the lines off a peice of paper?
Edit: Sounds unnatural.
Really? Super nice, I'll try it now
I put my pre-order in for a physical can't wait!
@Darylb88 yup. one of the worst narrations i have ever heard.
@Darylb88 I mean.. most likely?
@number1024 "the wait has been long enough"
If it's already been a long wait what difference does an extra 5 hours make? 🤷♂️
Oh well, if they have something else in the SoP to announce right after it's over then good enough, really don't need 2 "out now" announcements.
The demo was funny really loving it
@Darylb88 As opposed to a screen, a wall, a sculpture, a signal beamed directly into their head…?
@dskatter As opposed to not sounding like you are reading it off a peice of paper.
@Darylb88 watches the point fly past
@Darylb88 yes obviously they read off the sheet whatever they wrote up.
@number1024 you would be surprised how many dont know about it if it isnt promoted which could hurt potential sales to new buyers
I think this was out on the portable maybe vita or psp or switch? Dunno if it counts as a remaster just cause they added the sprites in probably they caught on that ppl like octopath traveler pixel style games?
@dskatter The comment is pointless
@BansheeNorn it sounded very unnatural like AI.
@Darylb88 Yes, your orginal comment was. Obviously they were reading lines. You meant to say they were reading them badly.
@dskatter No need to be rude/pedantic over a comment. I'll ask you nicely not to respond again.
@number1024 Well it did work out all around. They did have something else out now, well at least I think they did, and this has bene getting some coverage. My wife and I watched a trailer on YT yesterday trying to recall if I played it or not. I'm pretty sure we did, I played a lot of JRPG on the PS1 while my wife watched, but she wasn't so sure.
Probably won't play this again as I still need to catch up on the new SO games.
