Hogwarts Legacy and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon have swapped positions with one another to hand the Harry Potter simulator a top spot in the latest UK physical sales charts, while FromSoftware's mech game slips to fifth. The only new entry this week is at least an interesting one: the Premium Edition Upgrade for Starfield. This is a code in a box that grants five days of early access to the Bethesda RPG as well as the first story expansion, and it managed to rank seventh last week.
Other movers in the top 10 include LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in second place (up from sixth) while Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate was bumped up a spot into sixth — presumably fueled by the excitement for this month's Mortal Kombat 1. The likes of FIFA 23, Grand Theft Auto V, and Minecraft round out the top 10 while the usual Nintendo Switch titles Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are ever-present.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.

I will never not still be amazed that GTA V sells so well to this day. Is this the best ROI on a video game ever?
Not surprised to be Starfield premium edition as low as it is. It's sitting at the same scores on Metacritic and Opencritic as FFXVI.
It's a great score for a AAA 1st party Xbox game compared to the last one but not the system seller they were hoping for.
Shame.
That uptick in MK11 before MK1 is nice to see!
@Powerplay94 I´ve seen physical copies of MK11 Ultimate (both PS4 & PS5) go for as low as 20 euros here. I think many people who have been swept up in the MK1 hype but never played a MK game before satisfy their appetite for the moment with MK11. 20 euros is acceptable to try something out to see if you like it. I've been tempted to do that myself.
@General_Disarray @Powerplay94 it's not the full game, it's the standalone upgrade for the expansion & early access that's about $40
@Powerplay94 I'm NOT surprised at all - its basically just a code in a box to unlock the game 'early' and this doesn't count 'Digital' purchases - just Physical sales.
Starfield hasn't 'officially' launched yet and the 'only' people who can 'play' are those willing to pay for the 'Premium' edition/upgrade whilst 'everyone' else is waiting for the cheaper (but still £70) 'Standard edition' to release - which is 'free' on Game Pass.
Point is, this is 'only' Physical sales for the 'Premium' edition 'upgrade' and only count the Physical sales too with 'MANY' likely to wait until the Standard edition releases or buy Digitally, which can be also be played 'free' on Game Pass, I didn't expect it to be in the top 3 or 5 on the Physical 'sales' chart at all...
Dan Stapleton of IGN giving Starfield a 7/10 considering his history with these Bethesda games gives me comfort I'm not missing much. I mean who goes to buy up a fackn multiplat studio and makes their games exclusive, I mean timed-exclusive would've been ok even if silly. I've never supported Sony's lousy timed-exclusives either.
@Powerplay94 it's not the game itself, an upgrade code or whatever.
No final fantasy 16, that’s a shame
I’m just happy that the fabulous Final Fantasy XVI is back in the top forty, up into 22nd spot this week.
@The_Pixel_King it's something!
@Cherip-the-Ripper I'd expected it to be higher seeing as how this was going to be the game that'll put Xbox back on top.
@naruball we'll probably see an increase once the DLCs start dropping as well.
Starfield will sell best on Pc because the majority of people on Xbox are just waiting for it to be added to GamePass. I also expect a lot of people are going to be disappointed when they finally get to try it.
Good for Hogwarts, still enjoy it.
@General_Disarray here's hoping. It also needs a price cut soon, because people are still interested in it. If they wait too long, most won't care any more.
@General_Disarray Its definitely not the game to put xbox back on top, its not even their best scoring game this generation, its scored the same as Final Fantasy 16 on reviews and a lot of xbox players said that Final Fantasy 16 was rubbish so what does that mean for starfield if it scored the same lol, one of the main negatives for it I've seen is that the planets are boring to explore so people wanting a space exploration game should stick with No Mans Sky.
Considering starfield is the next big open world single player games from bethesda I though it's going to be number 1 in chart, maybe most xbox users just download it from gamepass and not buying it.
@UltimateOtaku91 yep, it makes me laugh at all the people who said it was going to crush FFXVI when it's scored the same on MC and OC, so either both games are equally good or equally bad (I'll still take FFXVI over it any day).
Update: Now it's sitting below FFXVI on MC (Xbox version)
@Cherip-the-Ripper they don’t care. They won’t care next week even if the full game release somehow hits the #1 spots. (Something I highly doubt since the best selling version will be on steam, GP will highly dilute the sales of the Xbox version.)
It’s all about trying to make others feel they are not actually missing out on a great game and they should stop thinking about the game absolutely everyone else is playing and talking about.
Edit: another thing to keep in mind: everyone that buys this upgrade is also a GamePass subscriber, and for some odd reason still buying a retail code for a game they could had easily paid on their consoles for. If they counted the sales made directly from Xbox consoles, Windows Marketplace or Steam (digitally) its certain it would rank higher. How much higher is anyone’s guess.
Will be interesting to see what the standard edition does for Starfield as that’s the one that’s on GP. Agree I think Steam will be the biggest seller.
Personally I’m loving it. I can see where the reviews come from though and if you can get past the first hour or so it expands massively.
The sales for Starfield will likely increase dramatically on Wednesday 6th. That is when it officially releases. Those playing it now, have early access to the “Premium Edition”.
Must say that personally, I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
@General_Disarray
It's #1 on xbox digital sales for what it's worth. I guess we'll see what the boxed sales are like next week. I do wonder how much it being on gamepass skews the sales
@Tharsman
Seems like it yh, unrelated sidenote but what's your pfp?
@Cherip-the-Ripper my FFXIV character.
Surprised the starfield upgrade is that high in the physical and Xbox store since on pure Xbox the overwhelming majority said they would just wait until it releases later this week on gamepass rather than go for the upgrade.
starfield upgrade top 10 thats insane! it doesnt even include the game its just allows gamepass users to play it 5 days early.
@TheArt
IGN = IGNorant
@Powerplay94 Thats the £99.99/$99.99 version of Starfield most people will buy the regular version this week. Where are work the standard version has high pre order levels. Only Hogwarts Legacy and TOTK have been pre ordered more to date.
@MrMagic The game gets really good after about 10 hours, but it is a bit slow until then to be fair. I expected a Space RPG not a space sim so I wasn't disapointed.
Some of my observations based on my gaming retail background:
HL will be the best selling game of the year. Where I work we have sold huge numbers this year to date and expect even more when the switch version drops.
Fifa 23 still holding on despite 24 being out at the end of the month is impressive.
Zelda will stay in the top 10 the rest of this year.
We have sold a lot of Xbox Starfield Standard copies despite it being on gamepass and Steam. The preimum upgrade pys ed getting into the top 10 also really suprised me considering there is a digital disount for gamepass subscribers.
As this is now the de facto Starfield thread 😅 anyone got any solid recommendations yet, is it a game that makes it worth buying an Xbox outright?
I'm literally in the position where I've basically been waiting for the time I'm convinced to buy an xbox (I thought this gen would be a no brainer) but I just think overall there has not been as much on offer as there has been on PS, so I'm still a little bit sceptical to whether it'd get much use.
If this came out to 10/10 game of the year hype, I'd probably be right in there, like I was with my Switch and TotK, but I get the sense that it can be a touch boring and not quite as monumental as first expected. Like 3 or 4 years ago, I was so hyped for this generation and Starfield being my way into Xbox. Did it turn out that good, or is it just good if you already have an Xbox lol
@MrMagic disappointed ? Not at all in fact it's better than I thought it would be , I've put 1 day and 15 hours in to my game up to yet and I haven't even scratched the surface ( got loads of side missions and hardly touched the main story), and ill b honest I enjoy it so much I'm working out what stuff I can postpone in real life so I can spend more time on it
@Ravix honestly I love the game and I don't say that cause its microsoft ( only played 20 mins of halo ,only done gears 1 ,don't like forza at all ) , i haven't itched to get back to play any game for a long time this has me itching ,I even woke up to go the bathroom at 2am and thought hmmmmm I need to upgrade my ship so spent another 4 hours on it even though I should have gone back to bed
A coupe of friends that don't own a xbox but have gd pcs we're watching my Discord stream of it and they went and purchased it right there after watching me play for 15 mins
I haven't liked any Sony nor Microsoft first-party game enough to say it was worth buying the consoles on their own. But it's cool to have them for other stuff. Here's hoping Starfield changes my mind.
@SgtTruth I suppose that's one way of looking at it 😆 although I'd not bother with a big game if I thought I'd be done with it in a month, I'm just not that type. But maybe for Autumn/Winter season another console could work
I bought a second hand PS4 Pro a bit before PS5 came out, knowing it'd save me the bother of trying to find a PS5 right away, but I just ended up keeping that and not selling it on again. It's currently gathering dust alongside my digital PS5 :/ (it's still handy for some older PS plus extra titles, however)
Do people really sell consoles second hand, that arent mistreated, this early into a gen, it never crossed my mind as being a thing to consider. I suppose that PS4 Pro could be swapped out for an X 😆 But knowing me I'd never end up selling it on, and the hope for Xbox providing some good games at some point is still in the back of my mind somewhere
As with anything in gaming, I'm happy to pay a premium if the experience is good enough, because that's what games are to me, but you have given me something to consider by thinking of it more of a loan that I can then pass off to someone else 😁
Oh no @Martsmall you've given me fallout 4 flashbacks 😵💫 I'd start building a base, and it'd get bigger and bigger, and I'd be tweaking things at god knows what hour. I don't think I ever finished the actual story though after all that bloody building 😆😆😆
In fact, quite worryingly, I may have never finished a Bethesda game 😬 I'd definitely have finished Skyrim, if i'd played it nearer to release, but because I played it for the first time within the last year or so, there was just so much other new stuff to play, and it got left behind. I think I was about to go on a journey into mine or someone's mind for some sketchy reason, or something like that 😆
I suppose this is now my fear for Starfield 🙃
Hogwarts is probably my game of the year. Its an amazing game and deserves the top spot.
@Ravix it's a addiction already for me , I having a conversation with a friend and Im my head thinking I wonder if one of the spaceship parts sellers has a bigger shield in stock I can't help it lol
For most of the game what I've done is ...
A lot of smuggling contraband ( omg im han solo lol ) , stealing space ships and selling em ,boarding ships and taking everything that isnt nailed down....( even the dinner trays and empty beer cans )
@Martsmall street rat, wanted and extrovert perks, or the Han Solo Build, is one of the things that is tempting me haha. If I get this I'd probably try and play it as a Star Wars game though, which might not be for the best 😅
@Ravix if you get caught smuggling contraband you get arrested...just pretend their taking you to see jabba the hutt lol
@Ravix Do you like or love Elder Scrolls and Fallout? If yes you should like or love Starfield.
Starfield is a Great game. Enjoying it a lot. Also a few side missions ive done had a pretty fleshed out story. Not a simple fetch quest
Hogwarts is another fantastic game.. Glad it is doing well
@Ravix I'm not aware of the quality (I'd wait for Steam reviews and a complete Metacritic profile and ranking before deciding), but I'd recommend just buying / upgrading a PC.
Other than that, I'd probably make the shift to Xbox if I could, solely because I'm absolutely starved for games on the PS5 right now. That being said, that's based on my experience and it'll differ from person to person, naturally.
I did not expect to see Hogwart's at number 1 until the Switch release. When it does finally release on the Switch it will be a juggernaut that will dwarf it's previous sales - if it doesn't release a buggy, unoptimised mess.
Code in a Box sales for Starfield charting top 10 is impressive.
A lot of games are coming back into the mix as people collect the games they missed with these PS5 discounts. That is good for the developers and good for the playstation.
If any of the big 3 don't make a lot of money this season it could be a curtain call!
30 hours into Starfield and I think it's bloody fantastic. It's like Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Cyberpunk 2077, Elite Dangerous and Firefly all rolled into one.
@Powerplay94 why? It's on gamepass don't need to buy it. Also that's only for the premium upgrade to play 5 days early and dlc it's £31
@Ravix it got a load of 10/10 reviews
@Martsmall A lot of people are already disappointed and I'm sure there will be a lot more when it hits GamePass. It has also just dropped another point on metacritic so it's going to be interesting to see what the final score is.
86 metacritic so it is now less than FFXVI lol.
@MrMagic oh no the sheep on the Internet say it has alow score cause its rubbish they must b bahhh right, who with a adult mind of their own cares what reviews say ? I can make my own mind up on a game I don't have to have a games review shepherd herding me in to what to think
@ApostateMage oh yes deffo the firefly ,in fact if they basically copied starfield with a firefly license they may as well take my money now
@UltimateOtaku91 I mean. Many people are now saying that Starfield with 88 OC score is rubbish...
...game which have same score as Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and higher score than Returnal and Miles Morales...
...which by this logic means that those games are also rubbish?
I also wonder if people will apply same logic if Spider-Man 2 will score similarly. Which is not exactly unexpected since first Spider-Man game has exact OC score as Starfield
@Martsmall Good for you.
When you made your own mind up did you just decide it has-
good enemy AI?
Good NPC AI?
That there wasn't millions of loading screens?
Or loads of copy paste bases?
That NPCs don't break quests?
An interesting reason to keep exploring beyond those invisible walls?
That there was no weird facial animations?
That the companions aren't basically pointless?
I'm sure someone who isn't a sheep wouldn't just ignore the Bethesda jank right?
And they sure as hell wouldn't fall for that 5 day early access scam or Todd's marketing.
@PixelDragon we all know Xbox gamers are being conditioned to not buy games at all anymore.
@MrMagic I remember seeing someone on PX talk about cancelling their pre-order because it only scored high 80s.
@General_Disarray Yeah. That's why Xbox made 3,2 billion in last quarter while less then billion was from Game Pass...
...because Xbox gamers don't buy games. I guess that those 2 billions just showed up from thin air
