Would seriously love to have one of these but I'm one of the unfortunate souls who suffer with the dreaded rainbow vision when watching a projector.

Does this suffer from that at all?

It be about similar price to decent OLED TV. It definitely worth it!!

With the sound presumably projecting in front of you (I assume you were sitting behind the unit itself) - does it still sound balanced? Like not too loud on one side of the room? Or like you are listening to a sound bounced off of the wall back at you?

I would expect the sound to be off if you were sitting too far to the left or right of the speakers themselves.

2 reason I'm doubtful about the whole experience on the long term :

• looking at the in-game UI on the side of the screen must be really painful after a while
• all the graphical artifacts must be particularly evident (especially the ones coming from FSR or from motion interpolation).

I'm sure the experience is stunning at first, or for short burst, but for now I'll keep my 55" LG CX OLED at 2 meters from my couch...

Only $1700? I might buy a few for my family members for Christmas this year.

i wonder what is better for the environnement. manufacturing large oled TVs or this kind of projector.

I have been doing this since 2020 when I got my launch day PS5 with Miles Morales and love it!

My screen throw in my home cinema room is at 140" in 4K enhanced/60FPS with HDR10/10+. But that's based on the room size and can go up to 300" and with lossless optical zoom and lens shift.
My projector was a hefty £2800 at the time :/ (still goes for 2-2500K today!) BUT was praised for low latency with games, so got it and agree, there's no issue.
My speaker setup is 7.1.2 with Q Acoustic speakers (still waiting for that Atmos firmware update Sony!)
I do have a Sony A8 OLED too in the living room, but so much more immersive on a projector with full surround.

That XGIMI is so much smaller though! Which is a pro. Mine weighs near 2 stone and ain't budging now it's in place!
Lucky that it has Dolby Vision too, although as you said in the vid, still doesn't exist on PS5 anyway. The inbuilt speakers sounded pretty good too!
Curious about the projection itself as it says on the XGIMI site that it's an LED/Laser combo, but then mentions DLP in the spec.

Being a bit of a home cinema fan, my eyes widened in shock @AaronBayne at the sight of the projector resting on a Wii balance board!

If you're UK/EU based it's called the "Epson EH-TW9400". I got it from the site ProjectorPoint. Was best price and they gave me 5 years additional warranty from Epson themselves.

If you're US based the model is slightly different and is called the "Epson Pro Cinema 6050UB" I think.

Speakers are "Q Acoustics 3050i Cinema Pack" + the 2 Atmos in ceiling speakers are called "Q Install QI65 Speaker".

My AV Receiver for all of this is the "Sony STRDH790.CEK 7.2"

I'm playing my PS5 on a 83" Sony A90J oled tv that I bought on release, and have been loving it ever since. I would definitely want to buy something bigger in the future, but the immersive feeling is there when you sit 6-8ft away.

Hadn't heard of this. I run a BenQ TK700 in my theater room. I've considered the x3000i for a while, but I'm holding off for now until next gen laser projectors that can do 4k/120. To a lesser degree, something that does true native 4k without pixel shift. I think with the horizon ultra, you'd still get 'rainbowing' (if you're sensitive to it and I am). It's also still using 4 phase shifting I believe, so not exactly 'native' 4k tho that's a bit pedantic with how good most pixel shift is.

Nah, can't compete with my 13 inch CRT monitor with blue tooth JBL 3 Speaker. Man oh man, does Metal Gear Solid the tits, innit!

I'll never forget playing Skyrim in 3D on a ginormous projector screen. Those giant spiders never looked scarier.

48" 4K TV on a desk 3' away from my face with nice high back office chair works about the same.

UST projectors FTW! Much brighter/sharper than long throw.

I've been rocking a 100" in my condo (all that fits in my space, but could go much bigger) with my UST projector which supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Super bright and crisp. No exaggeration, looks like a TV for 1/6 the cost of a similarly sized TV. I loves it. Full surround doesn't hurt either 😅

Not gonna lie, i live a ghetto fabolous lifestyle...so projectors arent really my thing, but this is fire set up.

Its funny how you say that its alot of money. But in protector pricing that is budget price.
For the top end projectors your looking at 3 to 6 grand or more.

I might have a look into it, but if thus packs all those feature for that price it might be worth waiting a year and getting a better make.

I'm literally converting a loft into a cinema room, but on a budget, it'll take more than a year.

But on a price matching answer this is cheap compared to sonys own 4k which retails at 5999

During covid lockdown you could "rent" the local cinema for a small group of people and watch a movie OR play Playstation 5 games through their digital camera. Much bigger than 200" I tell you that. Totally awesome, I wish they would keep doing that now even when the pandemic is officially over.

@Wiggo That happens on DLP projectors that have colour wheels. The screen is refreshed in colour passes, and through persistence of vision you experience a colour image. If you flick your eyes across the screen quickly, or there a high contrast image (white text on a black screen for example) some people see the rainbow effect where they’re seeing a bit one pass and a bit of another.

You need to consider a 3LCD type projector, there are more expensive as they generate three colour images at the same time and combine them through a prism and the whole image is output in one go.

I have an Optoma UHD30 4K60 projector and PS5 is incredible on it at 120”. (It’s a DLP chip with and RGBWRGBW colour wheel). My goto game for showing it off is Horizon Forbidden West. So many people overlook that game but it’s stunning. I can run my projector at 240hz 1080 from a PC and there is no noticeable rainbow effect as the refresh rate is so high, but that mode isn’t compatible with PS5. (Though it will do 120hz 1080 for games that support 40fps)

I was very close to pulling the trigger on a projector, but decided to get a TV instead, because of a freak price drop. So I got an 85" Samsung QN90B. That way I get a huge picture with picture quality superior to basically any projector, 120hz with vrr, HDR10+ and four hdmi 2.1 inputs. I'm yet to find an affordable projector that can match those specs.

Nah, I like my HDR too much.
Projectors just can't project deep blacks, for obvious reasons.

Definitely something I'd consider if I had the space but I bought a 55" Sony XH9005 in readiness for a PS5 (it was half price too and, thankfully, Sony eventually updated the software for VRR etc.) which replaced a 2015 full HD 43" model. Looking at it now a 200" display would be the whole frigging wall! Plus speaker placement is my top priority and they'd certainly get in the way.

@BeerIsAwesome Yeah, it's no more pricey than a high end telly... but the space needed to use it is something else!
