Alan Wake 2 is out at the end of the month, with the surreal sequel hitting PS5 on 27th October. For those planning on picking it up, Remedy Entertainment creative director Sam Lake is here to assure you that "pretty significant" free additional content is on the way, which is rarely a bad thing.
During an onstage EGX interview (thanks, VGC), Lake and his iconic face teased some post-launch fun in the form of free DLC, stating: "We do have free DLC drops coming, and they are pretty significant. I’m expecting us to be going more into detail pretty soon after the game is out, but all of that will be free for everyone who gets the game."
Previously, Remedy had confirmed that Alan Wake 2 would receive two paid expansions somewhere down the line, called Night Springs and Lake House, respectively, and that remains the case. It will be a digital-only release and was built to be a cinematic "30fps experience", but a Performance mode is there for those who prefer it.
Are you excited for the release of Alan Wake 2? Will you be skipping it for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (out 20th October), juggling both, or doing neither? Make some tough decisions in the comments section below.

I will be jumping into Spiderman, and then promptly dropping it for Alan Wake 2. It looks like it's going to be a perfect crossover of my love of True Detective, Twin Peaks, and survival horror games.
This is the most hyped I've been for a game in a long time. Release day can't come soon enough. My gaming time until then is spent with Lords of the Fallen. Which is excellent.
Not really interested in buying incomplete games at launch. Guess I'll wait to see what the "post launch free DLC" is gonna be.
@dBackLash Agreed. Honestly DLC like this just makes me want to wait, I prefer to play the WHOLE game all at once, rather than coming back a year or so later for DLC. A shame, I was looking forward to this, but now I will wait.
@starbuck2212 something tells me you won't finish up lords of the fallen by Friday, but if ya do good job !!👍
Got it pre-ordered and replaying Remastered in advance. I'm pretty hype, but honestly this has been a year I've been hyped a few times already (SF6, Sea of Stars, Baldur's Gate).
Seems wild to hold off on buying due to free DLC. Remedy has never shipped an incomplete game.
Skipping it because of the digital only release, and way too busy with SM2 anyways.
They were so dumb to delay it after SM2.
I’m skipping Spideman for this. Alan Wake 2 is a much bigger sequel to me, personally. I’ve said it before, but this has been my most anticipated title all year. Really looking forward to this and I’m sure the DLC will be extra things post-release. While Remedy’s DLC is usually chunky and essential, it has never detracted from the base game being complete.
I'm not buying it because of lack of physical release...I know my little purchase will make no difference but not buying it is my own little protest at the removal of choice for profit
@RudeAnimat0r did you play the control dlc too, I’m planning on playing it this week before Spider-Man 2 comes out.
Put it on a disc ffs !!!
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk I haven't but I was planning on it. I actually downloaded the Ultimate Edition thinking I could import my PS4 data but since that's not the case I'll have to dig up my PS4 Control disc.
I actually tried playing them a year or so back and I was getting wrecked! I had totally forgot how to play and was being destroyed.
Yeah I have this and Spiderman on pre-order. I actually got the ultimate edition of this through the turkey store ages ago (before the price increases) so I think I paid like £15. I've never played a bad game from this dev. So I'm banking on this being very good and any DLC just being an extension of the game.
@dBackLash Agreed, and even more so for games that are heavily story based.
@Uromastryx haha not a chance. But I'll give it a good shot and come back to it after AW.
@RudeAnimat0r yeah that’s the one bad thing about DLC having to remember how to play 🤣
My guess is that the free DLC is to help all the people they pissed off by not releasing physical.
I am really looking forward to this and already bought the Deluxe on Epic Games Store. But first I need to play first game's DLCs, AW-American Nightmare and Control Ultimate Edition.
So yeah, the earliest I can experince looks like towards the end of december.
Will I have need to play the first one? Don't think I could go back to that gen.
@PixelDragon what do you mean how so? How so is the entire statement I made. If you do an action to make people mad, they can then try to do a counteraction to bring some of those people back in.
