Major virtual reality releases from huge publishers like Ubisoft are rare, but Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR looks like a title worth watching – unfortunately, it’s currently a Meta Quest exclusive, with no plans for PSVR2 yet. While we’d expect it to end up on Sony’s headset eventually, this overview trailer reveals exactly what PS5 players will be missing out on.
Narratively the game sounds a bit complicated: it’s effectively repurposing assets from Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed 3, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This means you’ll play as three different protagonists: Ezio, Connor, and Kassandra – all with slightly different abilities and move sets, as is accurate to the characters and their original releases.
But the gameplay does look really good: it has all the elements of a traditional Assassin’s Creed game, including parkour, sword combat, and stealth. All of the actions appear to be intuitively mapped to the motion controls, including some neat little tricks, like how you can flick your wrist to release your hidden blade before initiating a takedown.
We’re confident this is probably going to end up a timed exclusive to Meta Quest, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see it ported to PSVR2 next year. It’s cool to see more big budget virtual reality experiences based on major brands emerge, though – obviously there are tons of top-notch VR titles to try these days, but the medium needs these blockbusters to attract more casual interest.

Pretty sure it was officially a meta exclusive until recently. Not sure why the change but I'd imagine a port would take a while.
I asked them about PSVR 2 when I interviewed them recently. All they said was: "Right now, we're focused on the Quest. You never know what will happen in the future, but we don't have anything to announce on different platforms at the moment."
Boy, ps vr2 is becoming a tough sell. It's time for sony to burn some money towards it or it will flop.
@zebric21 Worst purchasing decision of my entire life. Major regret buying the PSVR2.
@gabuloid I don't have the unit, but the lack of support for racing game developers was a major hit..Where is the new WRC vr mode or the F1?
@zebric21 I just do not think I could ever justify the cost for such a niche item. And does it still give you headaches?
I don't really get all this negativity about psvr2 and all the hype about quest (Or in general all the negativity about playstation besides amazing games exclusive to the platform recently (e.g. ff16, soon sp2)).
Would it be great to have nexus on psvr2? yes, absolutely! Will nexus be a great game, a quest system seller? Maybe, maybe not. Will it be the open world game everybody is waiting for? More likely not, than yes (more likely it is something more similar in scope of Star wars: tales from ..., but who knows).
People seem to assume that a quest3 is more powerful than psvr2 + ps5, that MR experiences will put VR to shame, because it is more exciting to play some exciting wave shooters in your humble apartment rather than playing a game in some imagined VR world. And that all the quest2 games also playable on quest3 suddenly will look like AAA games thanks to the 2.6 times gpu power and the resolution increase of a quest3. On the other side people seem to completely push aside the games which are on psvr2 (GT7, re8, NMS, and soon Re4: yest but we already played this on the flat screen, however we are really excited to replay old quest games on quest3 and btw. Re4 on quest is amazing; Retribution, Synapse, paper beast, red matter 1+2, moss 1+2, hubris, star wars: tales from ..., cross fire, paradise hotel, switchback, soon journey to foundation, fog lands, vertigo 2 ...: yes, but mostly also playable on quest and who cares about the enhancements on psvr2 (haptics, better lighting, shadows, colors, sound; when you can have a clearer image only with less details and less haptics and worse sound)). People seem to completely ignore the games which are announced for psvr2, because there is the narrative psvr2 has no games.
Also people seem to completely overrate the possibilities of having a clearer image on quest3 thanks to the lenses and the possibilities of MR, over better haptics, colors and more detailed graphics due to the processing power of a ps5, and somehow assume that meta will bring all the AAA games to quest and those will look as good or better than on psvr2 thanks to a GPU which has slightly higher processing power than a ps4, where sony does nothing (ignoring re4, and all the other games which are already announced to come soon). Sony seems to invest according to the market share of psvr2 not much beyond that i.e. grows the market slowly, which is frustrating for the VR enthusiasts, but likely makes sense from the business perspective
@LifeGirl people seem to also pay for racing wheels and other expensive accessories, because it gives them extra value or the games would not be enjoyable for them without. I personally lost interest in playing pretty much every flat game, because they look flat. If I play a flat game I always think how amazing it would be in VR. So, a ps5 without psvr2 would be a pretty pointless investment for me, because it would just collect dust. Perspectives are different. If it does not add any value for You it is good that it is just that an accessory, but I agree an expensive one.
As a huge Assassins Creed fan this would potentially sell me on PSVR2. After all it was Assassins Creed Liberation that sold me on the Vita back in the day. Sure I could get the Quest instead but that deals with Facebook and that's just not a road a I want to go down if I can avoid it.
Nexus does look really cool. Though even with the neat feature to ease motion sickness that would almost assuredly come from doing the leap of faith is smart and makes sense. I'm sure I'd still get sick.🤢
It'll be a shame if this is meta exclusive as it is assasins creed. I'm hoping for a price drop and a few new game announcements for the vr 2 before Christmas. Isn't the astrobot company making a psvr 2 game still?
It won’t be exclusive forever. Glad the meta 3 is pushing the base level of graphics up, if only very slightly, so that ports like this will look better on PSVR2. Of course we need Sony to step up and help companies transfer their flat games into superior VR versions so we can get the full power from PSVR2. Until then still lots of great games to play though.
@zebric21 Its already doomed. Basically Vita 2 but even this had a better Support by Sony in its first year lol
@Jswift56 I actually hope their next Game issnt a VR2 exclusive because it will sell awful and kill the last bit left of Japan Studio
@gabuloid really? I've found it absolutely awesome. Could obviously do with more marketing from Sony/a first party titles roadmap but other than that it's stacked with games. Even with what ports it has most of them are the best version of that game.
As someone who didn't already have quest or PCVR I'm absolutely stoked with it. GT7, Pavlov and RE8 alone made it worth the price of admission and there's tonnes more than that. Easily the best gaming experiences I ever had.
I'm not a motion sickness person but RE8 ruined me. I haven't touched my VR2 in months. The technology is pretty breathtaking though and should be supported.
@MagisterMagi or could end up being the next wii sports and make them plenty of money. Probably not 😂
@Jswift56 Yeah no, the target audience for those Games is on Switch lol. Not on a 549€ Console and 599€ Headset
It looks pretty cool and I hope it makes it to PSVR2 and PCVR eventually.
Although if I'd have the choice I'd probably prefer a straight-up VR port of an existing AC, like Odyssey. What VR is missing is huge games like that, well apart from Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR.
If only they had gone with pancake lenses and built in speakers I think I would have kept it.
Thinks game looks great, if to comes to PS I'll definitely buy it if it reviews well
@JP80 okay the pancake lenses is fair some prefer them, but built in speakers why do you need them?
@Jswift56 I wouldn't be hopeful for a price drop for a while buddy, this is one of the few PS products sony sell for profit, and make up for the low install base due to the large consumption of software VR users buy. If it does drop I doubt it will be more than £50ish.
@MagisterMagi Its had an incredibly strong start. Horizon, GT7, and RE Village at launch. Huge improvement to No Man’s Sky. RE4 Remake coming soon. And tons of minor gems along the way, many coming over from Quest, but looking better than ever. I don’t see any reason to worry about the future - we’ll keep getting the latest and greatest VR games including the occasional AAA hybrid.
@Hoodie718 The worry is that VR2 mostly only gets years old Meta Quest Ports and VR Modes while Meta buys tons of high-profile exclusive Games + also being way cheaper and not needing a 450€+ extra to pay. Also theres like zero newbFirstParty Games confirmed for the VR2 atm.
@Hoodie718 after finding VR2 NMS to be inferior to the boosted VR1 on PS5, the recent update resulteded in a dramatically improved product which is far superior now. Makes me think they rushed VR2 support using last gen VR as a base setting and worked up from there.
@MagisterMagi The downside to being cheaper is that the image is far inferior due to less horsepower, though agreed VR2 does get ports of old meta games, but then it would be cheaper to produce those games in the first place for meta would it not?. Though meta appear to be shifting focus to AR instead so its worth being wary of.
@MagisterMagi I don’t see PSVR2 as competing with Quest. They serve different audiences. And any Quest exclusive is going to be standalone and thus pretty technically limited compared to exclusive hybrid modes in the Resident Evil games and GT7, so I don’t expect much FOMO.
And while we’re talking about support, Quest 3 didn’t launch with a single notable exclusive.
@Yozora146_ Because it's cumbersome enough as it is I think having built in speakers should be standard
@JP80 Hmm interesting, never found much of a difference adjusting the speakers on the valve index ( if that's what you mean) to putting the earbuds in my ears myself on VR2, but I guess convenience helps right over quality because damn the speakers on meta quest 2 sucked buns.
It looks kinda neat, but could be better. This should have only focused on Ezio, and should especially not have a random fantasy spartan mercenary.
I have heard good things though, and I hope it comes to PSVR2. Sony needs to get deals like so the games can't even run on a quest in the first place.
@SgtTruth We just got RE8VR, RE4VR is coming more than soon enough if you any sense of pacing at all.
I have so many great games on the vr2 already. I can wait 12months for this to arrive. My best decision was to buy prescriptions lenses for the vr2. Nice to play without having to wear glasses.
@Jaz007 yeah really not sure what people claiming it's dead are on about, like seriously were you expecting AAA bangers each week or something?
The PS5 itself has about 3 legitimate new-gen only games so far. There's been a pandemic that started 3 years ago significantly impacting studios that everyone seems to have forgotten about that was right in the development time frame of most games.
That said, I think Sony's silence about upcoming 1st party titles is insulting (and that includes regular PS5 games too which people seems also to forget) which feeds the sentiment, which no doubt impacts the interest of potential new buyers.
@gaston Same here. The only downside of getting a PSVR2 headset is that I realized how stagnated and uninteresting flat games have become.
See, I've been gaming since the late 80's. And even though that feeling of "been there, done that" has been percolating for many years now, I kept gaming because it's my passion (plus a bit of inertia).
But after experiencing GT7, RE8 or Tetris Effect on PSVR2, I kinda can't go back to flat. For one, I was super excited for Spider-Man 2. Well, it's here now, and I just can't justify the $70. I'd rather spend it on that sweet Moss bundle deal + Synapse + Crossfire Sierra Squad. I'm fine playing Spider-Man 2 down the line when it eventually gets to PS+ Extra.
@Art_Vandelay I have nothing against if you spend all Your money on supporting VR developpers. Can only make VR games better in the future
@Korgon The Quest headsets no longer require you to link to a Facebook account
@zebric21 PSVR2 has been a fantastic purchase for me, so many great releases in just the first 8 months. People are seemingly ignoring all the great stuff in favour of complaining about lack of Sony 1st party.
