Horizon Forbidden West is a monstrous game, and when you toss in its excellent Burning Shores expansion, it reaches an entirely different scale. It’s perhaps unsurprising, then, that the exclusive’s imminent Complete Edition – which bundles both parts of the package together – will become the first PS5 title to ship on two discs. Other examples include The Nioh Collection, but this technically included each game on a different Blu-ray, so perhaps doesn’t count in quite the same way.
We know the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will also ship on two discs, so this looks set to become a trend moving forwards. On the plus side, it’s a positive thing for future preservation that developers are using multiple discs, as the alternative would be to stuff the remaining data on a server – and that somewhat defeats the point of a physical release in the first place. If you’re planning to pick up the Complete Edition, it’s due out later this week, on 6th October.

I wonder what the total download size will be on the PSN store.
Perfectly fine with 2 discs to store games. We have been doing it since the PS1 days and if you don't want discs, you can always download.
Choice is good for us.
@Netret0120 Yeah options are always nice to have. I'd like to see more publishers doing this.
Remembering FF VIII on 4 discs right now too.
And now I'm interested lol. I like anomalies like these.
@Netret0120 I think after the Burning Shores dlc my game install was at 114GB.
Good! Much better than needing a download on a physical version.
Reminds me of 'multi-load' tapes used to get on the C64....
As long as the whole game is on the discs, patched, and with all DLC, this is a good thing. I can only hope companies continue to support physical... looking at you SEGA, you should be putting Gaiden on a disc!
@MS7000 Same goes with Remedy’s Alan Wake II, which is digital only. Also hoping Baldur’s Gate 3 will get a physical release at some point. Either that or someone like LRG picks them up.
In the PS1 days i remember games like FF or Command and Conquer releasing on multiple discs. Even smaller games like In Cold Blood were over 2. Biggest I ever saw was Riven- the sequel to myst which is 5 DISCS, YES 5!!! Got them all on my shelf in the spare room lol
@MS7000 It is on a disc, I have it preordered. Try Play-asia.
I think the people saying "we used to do this" are kind of missing the point. We "used to do" a lot of things and now we don't because those things are worse. This seems like an inconvenient step backwards and another reason why digital is superior.
FF7 Rebirth hearing this news:
@TripleKing333 *In the west.
I know about playasia but shouldn't really need to import.
Surprisingly for once some good news !
TLOU part 2 also came on 2 discs, so not really out of the ordinary if you ask me.
Will it have a brand new trophy list (same trophy list but not shared progress) or will it be shared? Was hoping to platinum it again on the PS5 but may have to just play the PS4 version whenever the itch tickles.
Didn't think there'd be a complete edition do started the main game recently (phenomenal so far) so slight annoyed by this but will buy regardless as I want it complete physically.
Does anyone know if I buy this and install will it recognise my save file from main game or act as a separate game?
Can't see it anywhere in UK for sale yet.
@LifeGirl I can only hope you’re trolling, because data caps still exist and not everyone has super reliable internet. No reason to act like those people’s money isn’t as acceptable to game sellers as anyone else’s.
Meanwhile xbox is going adorably digital 😉
@dskatter A lot of digital fans seem to have a problem with the mere existence of physical media, even if it really doesn't affect them one bit.
It's quite nice to see an actual complete edition, rather than the standard original disc plus a dlc code that we usually get fobbed off with nowadays.
@Balosi “You disc feebs just can’t comprehend the POWER OF THE DIGITAL SIDE!!!”
We get it, digital-only fans, you like not actually owning content, we GET IT.
@LifeGirl digital "property" (until platform revocation of course) with zero resell value... what a great trade-off for not having to drag my butt to the console to swap a disc.
I don't see a problem with a game coming on 2 disks. It's better than the Activision way with 70MB of data on a Blu Ray just to download the entire game. A complete edition should always contain the entire game, even if it has several disks.
Good! Every GOTY edition should have extras be on disc, not some code.
The game is due tomorrow and it still doesn't have it's product page on PS store. What a shame
@Octane Yeah. pretty sure Cyberpunk 2077 and FFVII Remake did. People keep pointing out things like this or Rebirth being on two discs as if it's a new thing. Any game larger than, IIRC, 100gb would have to be on two discs.
5 years from now, AAA games will be bundled with an extra SSD
@tofuman86
Maybe the game will come pre-loaded on an SSD and we can just hot swap them like Isolinear Chips in the Star Trek Universe
Game is on disk, still needs to be installed to the hard drive!
What a joke.
I have the same issue with M$
