Bandai Namco has announced Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs, which is essentially a battle royale spin on its iconic arcade series. While Pac-Man 99 has sort of already done that, this is a new take on the formula that's coming to a wider range of platforms — including PS5 and PS4.
In this version, a group of 64 players navigate 64 mazes, all connected via the tunnels on the edges of each. It's essentially a battle to be the last one standing as you eat pellets, fruit, and even other Pac-Men. As a match progresses, mazes will start to be eliminated, gradually shrinking the play space.
With cross-play, a bunch of power-ups to use, and cosmetic items to play dress-up with, it looks like it could be pretty good fun. Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is due to release in early 2024.

I grew up with an OG Pac-Man (and Centipede) arcade cabinet in my basement. Namco's ability to constantly refresh Pac-Man to match the times and come up with truly compelling twists on the formula is seriously underrated.
I am completely all over this. Such a timeless concept adapted for modern sensibilities. Sign me up!
Quite a mouthful for a title.
A Pac-Man battle royale doesn't interest me in the slightest.
I do, however, completely approve of the name Chomp Champs.
Yes i love stuff like this, wish Tetris 99 would appear multi platform as well.
Curious timing that they announced this right after pulling Pac-Man 99 offline. Was that just some kind of test run or something?

Why... just why...
@djlard Fun, just fun 😀
Another game leaving the Google Stadia Graveyard is a +1 for preservation, though I wonder if this rerelease will outlive Pac-Man 99 (hope it does).
After PAC-Man 99 died, thank god this is coming.
@Smiffy01 rather "What if this could be another milking cow?"
