Originally targeting a 2023 release date, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is now on course for a PS5 and PS4 launch on the 28th February, 2024.
If you're not sure what Dark Forces even is, it's a traditional DOOM-esque first-person shooter that originated on the MS-DOS in 1995, and was ported to the PS1 a year later. The soon-to-be 29-year-old title was met with lukewarm reviews back in the day, but it's remembered quite fondly by Star Wars fans who took it for a spin all those years ago.
This remaster's promising 4K resolution and up to 120 frames-per-second (on PS5). Will you be blasting stormtroopers early next year? Actually show them how to aim in the comments section below.

Ahhh I remember it like it was yesterday. Can't wait for this.
@TrickyDicky99 Ah yes, the days on the Pentium chips. I will never forget my Dad buying me a 4MB RAM upgrade for my PC, $500 to get it. That much money buys you 128GB today... utterly mind-blowing
Looking forward to that one. Got the original in a drawer with the rest of my ye olde PS1 collection. Not taken it out of the case for years, but still... 😄
Currently playing this on my PC using the Dark Forces Engine Source Port. It does a good job, but sadly the sprite-based artwork doesn’t scale well.
Great soundtrack - especially when piped through the Roland Sound Canvas VA set to SC-88 Pro Mode (the game was composed using the Roland SC-88).
It was one of the first games I remember where the soundtrack would change depending if you were in combat or just exploring.
Played this a couple years back and really liked it minus the labyrinthine levels. It’s honestly aged better than Jedi Knight.
Alas I was stuck on a 80486DX4 until around 2001 when I got an AMD Thunderbird with 12x the clockspeed. I played Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 and Mysteries of the Sith while waiting for Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, but I don't think I've played this one
I've long lost my love for Star Wars but....gimme gimme gimme!
Love all these classics getting ported to modern consoles.
Probably should have mentioned it’s Nightdive doing this remaster. That alone makes it legit worth looking forward to.
This and rebel assault were a huge part of my childhood. I went from games like alley cat and jump man on the PC JR to this. It was mind blowing. I also learned how to type fast at a young age by opening up the cheat command in game.
