Update: As previously promised, Sony has rolled out support for PS5 cloud streaming in North America for PS Plus Premium subscribers. As is the case in Europe, games that support the feature will be denoted by an icon on the dashboard.
Original Article: And just like that, the functionality of PS Plus Premium has expanded in Europe, with PS5 streaming now officially available within select countries across the continent. Sony is slowly rolling the feature out around the world, with Japan getting access last week and North America to follow from around 30th October.
You’ll be able to stream select games either from the PS Plus tab on the system’s main menu, or from the product page of titles you have in your Game Library. It’s worth noting, though, that not every game will support streaming. The functionality will extend to limited time Game Trials, however, so you won’t necessarily need to download a massive file to try a title out.
Remember, the Japanese giant is significantly upping the quality of its streaming for this feature, so you’ll be able to play in 2160p at 60 frames-per-second – assuming you have the bandwidth to cope with it. Indeed, you’ll need at least a 52mbps connection in order to benefit from 4K streaming, so you may want to consider upgrading your Internet plan.
We had a little fool around with the feature earlier and it all worked as intended with Gotham Knights, so we’ll consider this rollout a success for now. The question is: will you be making use of the functionality, and in which circumstances do you envisage yourself streaming PS5 games over the cloud?

No interest in streaming games.
I just tried it with Rift Apart, works great. While I’ll definitely still play games natively most of the time, this will be useful with trials, PS+ games, etc - whenever I want to check something out but I’m not too sure if I’ll stick with it.
I'll definitely use it for trials and PS Stars rewards, I think!
@get2sammyb 100%. I'll be doing the exact same. It's going to make Stars campaigns so convenient.
Will definitely think of making the £12 upgrade at some point, once I need to try out some new games, do some stars rewards, clear games I probably won't boot up much from my SSDs etc.
Is your library of games to stream literally only accessible from the game's product page though? And not from, say... your game library 😅
And where is the damn mobile app Sony!?
I still don't understand why cloud gaming was such a big point of contention for the CMA during the incredibly dull Xbox/ABK deal. I have a lot of friends/family who are gamers from all age ranges and they also range from very casual to diehard fanboys. Not a single one of us even slightly care about cloud gaming.
Am I missing something??
the CMA was looking ahead for the next decade. It is arguable whether they have overstated the importance of cloud gaming as no one really knows how it will be taken up.
But if you look at the rise of digital downloads, that's in a completely different place to where it was a decade ago. Should cloud gaming take off it will be an entirely different business model. There will be no big upfront investment by suppliers in hardware platforms and by consumers in proprietary devices.
The model will move away from products to services and channel owners /aggregators will get the power.
Sony gets people to invest in its machines because it has a limited number of high quality properties tied to a proprietary plartform. but in a model where one company owns a disproportionate number of top properties decoupled from any technology platform it could distort the market. Thats how the traditional view of media ownership competition operates.
I think it’s a nice option, saves you time downloading a game and the limited size of the internal storage with this.
But of course, they need to expand this to PC/Mac, mobile and Portal.
Streaming is great for trying a title before committing to the download. Also useful for ps rewards 😊
To anyone dismissive of it - try it. You will be suprised.
I would love to try this as I have used something similar to xbox gamepass' cloud feature on x series s
There are some titles that I like to pick back up occasionally or that show up regularly on PS Stars that have been hogging up way too much disk space, so I'm happy to have this. If Destiny 2 is on the list when the service comes to the U.S., I'll be glad to have those 100 or so GBs back.
@__jamiie In one of the leaked documents of Microsoft they actually had Gamepass projections up to 2030 and they predicted there’d be more “cloud first” Gamepass subs than PC Gamepass subs by the time the gen 10 consoles come out in 2028. By 2030 they are projecting around 30m Cloud First Gamepass subscribers(this is more than the current number across all formats before counting “Gamepass core”)
I have an absurdly highspeed, low latency internet connection. And I'm not impressed with Sony's streaming services. Frame drops and very noticeable input lag while streaming 720P PS3 games... Sorry, that's simply unacceptable.
@Vriess but if your closest Sony server is hundreds/thousands miles away, then very likely your uber speed will not matter.
@ChrisDeku Fair enough. I'm sure when all companies have forced us into the cloud by then that the numbers will be total. I just see no traction in it at all right now. But then I am old and remember a time when games shipped either working or broken. And all this used to be fields! 🤣
I genuinely miss the simpler times of gaming.
I am happy with this, because cloud streaming is a good way to try games and see if you like them. I wish they would let you do it with even the games that you haven't bought yet, let's say try them for 1 hour.
@__jamiie
I mean, could you ever fathom that we'd be able to stream movies and television from the Internet without the need for cable? New technology tends to sneak up on you and it seems like cloud streaming is right on the cusp of becoming the standard. If you think about it nowadays you're considered more of an enthusiast if you go out and buy blu-rays as opposed to just streaming the thing you want to watch. As much as die-hards might not want to hear it, that's more than likely the future that gaming is headed to. It will be a lot more convenient...but possibly also a lot more anti consumer too.
@ATaco Me and my amazing Blu-ray collection completely agree. ☹️
@Maddie47 2024 I believe?
It would be considered kind if You actually have named those new european countries.
With this quality I really like it. Good a crisp 4K that look like I playing offline.
Another stupid decision, nobody asked for.
And you have to pay for PS Plus Premium, which many people(including me) don't want or need. A lot of people are still only paying for Plus Essential because of online play.
Sony are really doing many mistakes this year.
Welp I do have internet that good but I think I'll just play my games natively
Don't think i'll use it much, but CHOICE is good and will be useful for trials and PS Stars.
@ChrisDeku they can get out of here with that, cloud gaming is inferior gaming.
@TrickyDicky99 Horrible idea that would never happen and if it did all you'd get is more people hating Sony and pirating their games to get back at them
@REALAIS
My closest backbone DNS is 50km (31 miles) from my house. With two local fiber optic relays in between. Each at about 1/3rd of the way there. The latency between my DNS and me is 4ms.
@TrickyDicky99 Most games from sony on steam are single player action adventure not even multiplayer besides maybe helldivers that's it, I really don't understand what you're trying to get at.
@TrickyDicky99 Dude almost every game besides maybe WoW and other mmo's is free to play online on pc, sony could never get away with what you suggest and in reality paying to play online shouldn't be a thing, it's only a thing on console because they need to recoup money when they sell the consoles at a loss and have that constant revenue.
Yes it is out and it sucks, yesterday I did try to play Control ultimate edition and guess what 😀😃😀😃
The movie section selection is crappie as well, I'm so happy I cancelled my subscription.
I think it's great. I played the Last of Us part 1 and Hogwarts Legacy trials in full and a few other PS Plus games. A few stutters at 2140p but no playability issues. The ability to just jump into something different for a short play session feels like the experience Ps Plus was created for.
@Nintendo4Sonic Well, that's what having a tiered subscription is all about. It's a concept known as 'choice'. You want to stay on the basic tier - fine. Someone else [like me] wants the convenience of instant streaming - also fine. We each choose the tier we want. Im not sure what your beef is.
@Vriess really? Mine is 500gb (certainly not the fastest) and everything works great in UK
Gave it a try and very impressed with it overall, although fortunate to have a 1gb connection via Community Fibre, so not a massive surprise..
Still have to pinch myself how far things have come since playing a Binatone console back in the day (Old man gets misty eyed).
🤣😁
I'm good I'll just stick to playing on the hardware I'd rather not be tied to the internet
@__jamiie Been picking up certain old TV shows & movies on DVD & Bluray just on the very basis that there are older ones i know won't be shown on local streaming services down under here most of the time,nevermind not affording half a dozen ones! Not to mention the at times awful reboots of classic movies/shows!
Still wondering for the "new & improved" streaming,whether this will translate into Sony expanding the service like they initially promised launching the new tiers. Deluxe now near $200 down under for the trickle of "classic" games. Can only imagine the extra for streaming!🤔
