In an unexpected development, Sonic Frontier's third and last free DLC update, The Final Horizon, is frustrating some players with its high level of difficulty. Some go so far as to say it's the most difficult gameplay they've ever experienced in a Sonic game.
In a GameFaqs forum post called "This DLC is way too hard" (thanks VGC), which is now 12 pages long, numerous players expressed frustration at this unexpected difficulty spike. That the base Sonic Frontiers was a tad on the easy side seems to have been a common complaint, and Team Sonic appears to have overcorrected in this case, which is what makes the whole thing so surprising.
The last free update players can expect, Final Horizon added the ability to play as series stalwarts Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, as well as tackle a bevvy of optional challenges, which is where the challenge lies. A vertigo-inducing tower that requires pixel-perfect platforming without the aid of checkpoints is proving to be the breaking point for many, apparently taking some inspiration from viral Twitch hit (now defunct), Only Up!
Have you had a chance to check out Sonic Frontiers Final Horizon DLC? Is it really as tough as it is being made out, or has Sonic always been the Dark Souls of mascot platformers? Spin dash into the comments section below.

I'm in the minority that didn't like Sonic Frontiers.
Precise platforming just doesn't work in Sonic and usually was jank city when it's used.
Just finished this. While the ending is a total treat for fans, the gameplay feels even more jank than the base game and begs the question if this was even play tested before release. The difficulty is all over the place, with some of the earlier challenges being far harder than the later challenges. Certain challenges require you to reload your save in order to retry because necessary platforms disappear and don't respawn. The new characters only highlight how much this game and it's camera weren't meant for precision platforming. For those turned off by the difficulty, I'd say just YouTube the final boss fight and ending.
I loved Frontiers when I played it at launch despite its faults. I haven't had a chance to try the DLC yet but I must say I'm actually even more intrigued to try it now! I did think the base game was a bit too easy so I'm interested to see if it's really as tough as people say it is!
Just gotta finish Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty 1st.
I think people just still think 3D Sonic is just about holding up on the analog stick and holding a button, so I think people just don't know how to fully play Sonic
I am glad I am not alone in finding this absurdly difficult and not in a fun way 😣 I had really liked the base game
But is the game actually good now???
I gave up on the titan boss rush and I'm not afraid to admit it. If I didn't work full time I'd grind it, but no chance. 😂
I wish SEGA didn't listen to a bunch of trolls who complained about Sonic Frontiers base game being too easy.
OK so some of the difficulty concerns I get, but not around the platforming specifically. The game isn't built around precision platforming (whatever that means) nor does it expect it from the player. Even in the video clips shown above, all I see are mistakes on the player part, and failure to correct and save themselves at every opportunity.
I really hate to oversimply something as just get good, but seriously... as someone who does not play a lot of platformers, Frontiers' platforming is not difficult.
the only hard part is the titan boss rush. The towers aren't hard, just annoying because they don't have any checkpoints and if you fall you have to work all the way back to the top, and you will most likely fall a lot because of the broken physics.
