Konami has responded to suggestions the upcoming PS5 remake of Silent Hill 2 will feature an origin story for Pyramid Head, stating it's "incorrect information" via a statement handed to Eurogamer. Word of such a thing came from a Best Buy product listing for the game, where it was claimed the famous character would make "a return along with a special origin story for fans to play through". This description has now been removed.
What fans have found curious, though, is how multiple retailers all seemed to upload a product page for Silent Hill 2 around the same time following little in the way of new information or trailers this year. The hope appears to be the survival horror title will feature at The Game Awards next month with a view to launch in 2024.

Good. We don't need one.
@hypnotoad seconded. The game explains enough for Red Pyramid Thing to make sense and remain scary.
James Sunderland is Pyramid Head's origin story. If you know the lore, nothing more needs to be added to that particular conversation.
Red Pyramid Thing is not a character, it's a construct of James' psyche. This is the thing that annoys me most about Silent HilI, Konami themselves do not understand how this world works. Every single creature is specific to the person, they literally do not exist for other people.
@Benjiro But a lot of new players don't know the lore so thats not a real good reason. As long as the character is worked /fleshed out good im cool with it.
@Flaming_Kaiser Then they can learn. There's being accessible and new player friendly, and then there's dumbing everything down and playing to the cheap seats because you can't be bothered to respect the lore and history of your own games.
@GeneJacket If you release a game were you need look up things up that are important to the game it's not really good design. But he was introduced in the second game so you learn about him when playing dont you or am I wrong? I thought he was a from the first Silent Hill but he is from the story so you don't need a introduction or did I read the wiki wrong?
@Flaming_Kaiser Again, Red Pyramid isn't a character. Like every enemy/creature in Silent Hill, it doesn't "live" in the town. It simply did not exist before James arrived and his psyche manifested it. It's origin is that it has no origin. It was born from James' mind when he arrived in Silent Hill, and at the end of that game it ceases to exist.
The fact that it became the de facto mascot of the series and appeared at all in subsequent games is because the movie was a minor hit and Konami themselves fundamentally misunderstand the series (or just straight up don't care, I'd guess the latter, since they basically threw out or ignored all the lore for everything after the first 4 titles).
Imagine playing through "Pyramid Head's Origin Story"
Good god
Basically 'we saw the reaction and told the devs to take this part out of the game.' The more I learn about this remake, the less I wish it was happening, especially with 'progressive' Western devs, who have zero respect for Japanese games, at the helm.
Knowing Konami I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually real but man I would be so pissed. I am having less and less faith and especially when Bloober team is developing it. I will most likely be sticking to playing the older titles until Silent Hill f comes out.
@Nepp67
That's the way to go. It seems like the only companies that 'get it' with remakes/remasters these days are Nintendo and Capcom.
@Gamer83 NGL I kind of want Capcom to do a SH remake even if they haven't done a psychological horror game and are drifting a bit away from the horror. They just seem to know what they're doing.
This speaks volumes to how badly anticipated this remake is. People fabricating stories and assuming.
And.. how much pressure is on Bloober. Godspeed, Bloober dudes and dudettes.
I for one cannot wait. I luckily have an original PS2 copy to fall back on if things just don't work out but I have faith we're in for a real treat. I really hope we get this no later than Q1 2024.
@Flaming_Kaiser Elden Ring and George R R Martin, and all Dark Souls games would like word with you. Sometimes vagueness, when done correctly, can ignite locked-away parts of your brain.
@Nepp67
I'd trust Capcom more than Konami/Bloober but that's more indictment on the other two than anything else. Capcom does a good job with remakes of its own IPs (even if RE 3 was a bit lazy and rushed) but I wouldn't want to see it bother with other company's games.
@GeneJacket I know the creature I just don't know the main character(s). Ofcourse I understand you don't have to spell it out but I mean by playing the game you should be able to piece it together or atleast understand it a little that's what I meant. But thanks for the information anyway. Maybe put a spoiler on the remark for the people who didnt play it. Not for me BTW I asked.
@ChromaticDracula Depends being vague to be vague is annoying and yes i agree a little bit of stuff to keep you thinking is always a good thing.
@Flaming_Kaiser None of that is a spoiler for anything that happens in the game, that's just how Silent Hill works (or rather, did, until Konami they decided they didn't care).
