PS Plus members of any tier can take advantage of a limited-time promotion in the new Sony Pictures Core app on PS5, PS4 consoles throughout November. For the rest of the month, anyone with an active membership can take 15 per cent off the price of movie rentals and purchases. This is off the back of the ability to rent 100 movies free of charge as a PS Plus Premium subscriber, which has resulted in "strong engagement" inside the application.
In addition, users have the chance to view "a weekly compilation of audience-influenced storylines" from the new Silent Hill: Ascension series, which kickstarted its canon-changing TV run earlier this week. They'll all be available to PS Plus Premium members 24 hours before they hit any other platform, with the first streaming on 8th November 2023.
Have you watched any movies through the Sony Pictures Core app yet? Let us know in the comments below.

I can't even access the app, everytime I try, it just signs me out
Why bother? It’ll all be on some streaming platform in a few months or on YouTube after a year.
Not interested. I brought my PlayStation for video games thanks
@Exerion76 yes i agree. The picture quality is garbage and i have ultra fast fibre and the streaming quality is complete tosh. Netflx and prime tv streaming 4k content is nigh on perfect so why this is so sub par is beyond me. Another thing sony needs to improve upon.
It adds zero value for me. I only turn my PS5 on to play games. I have about a 100 other options for watching Movies and TV.
I actually upgraded to premium to try game streaming, and totally forgot this was a thing. I assume the selection of 100 movies is garbage? And it seems like streaming quality, based on these comments, is also garbage lol.
If you do buy (its highly unlikely there is anything worth buying either) does it download to console, or just give access to stream it?
@Throb if you cant get in, the issue is related to email address verification on the Sony website. you need to request an email verification resend and respond to it.

@TrickyDicky99 not sure how you think its worth it? The quality is crap through the ps app and the selection on offer is not very inspiring either. If you already sub to netflix, prime, sky etc there is nothing of value at all. Its an empty gesture as far as i'm concerned.
And I only watched Insidious The Red Door last weekend on the service lol. I thought the film was awful but didn't notice anything bad about the picture quality. You can get Atmos when the film has it, which a plus point for me. Not sure if there is much on there that I would be willing to pay for watching, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse I am, but that is coming soon to Netflix in the UK apparently, so will wait for that.
The fact that they aren't linked to Movies Anywhere is going to keep me from buying on the platform.
The free movies are nice enough. However, I loaded up a Godzilla movie and as nice as it was to get the original Japanese version, the subs were CC, so included sound effects and such. Definitely a bummer.
The whole thing feels sloppily put together.
I tried the Equalizer 3 on this app, and the image was significantly darker than it was in the theater. I normally use Vudu/Movies Anywhere and I never have this issue
Another streaming platform... yay
The streaming pie is getting shared by so many companies now.
it makes each piece too thin. i want a big piece with lots of choice, not 28 pieces with barely enough content to justify paying for it.
@Northern_munkey. @TrickyDicky99. Don’t you recognize a sarcasm when you hear it Charlie Brown.
@Stevemalkpus only when its not implemented very well 👍
We don't have any movie subscription service (we have a public library nearby with literally thousands of movies to borrow, many of them bluray) therefore this one for me has some value, we found a few nice movies to watch and will be happy if they add more od even crunchyroll to the premium bonus.
Yeah, the lack of Movies Anywhere makes it a hard no to buy anything on PlayStation. Come on Sony. Even Microsoft participates in MA!
@Mikey856 you say you bought it to play videogames but as soon as your done playing videogames you then open Netflix, Prime, Disney+ etc.
Make it make sense. Do you really switch inputs to open those same apps when you're done playing a videogame when you could instead just launch those on the PS5?? If you do, then you have very inefficient processes. But hey, you do you.
I use mine PS5 for gaming primarily, but then when I'm done gaming I then use it to watch Hulu and prime. It's more efficient and saves time vs switching inputs to launch those same apps on a different device.
Surprisingly enough I have been using their streaming to watch 4-5 of those free 100 movies provided in UK. Good quality, no ***** and really simple.
@Throb Funny, having the same issue in my region down under too! I can login to the PS web store on PC, but when I hit the add comment Tab,it just defaults to the top of the page. The "Login" to account prompt does the same...but if I click on the Sony link & then select login,it shows my profile as per having logged in correctly. 2FA etc.,work fine,it just doesn't won't let me login properly on the blog to add a comment!
I did better than 15% - I saved 100% by just not buying into the service. As others have pointed out already - the content will eventually end up on one of the streaming services we already subscribe to.
@Ravix I’ll save you time.. the 100 free movies are in fact garbage.. this movie app is a joke
Is this app available in PS4?
this ultimately is just another reason the ps4 was better than the ps5 - why ? because you could use the WEB BROWSER instead to access free movie sites.
now i just use my PC and my Playstation has truly been relegated to the use of a PS1 in terms of just turning it on and playing a (offline) game . i hope better days are coming for console/playstation & most of all breaking away from this movie craze and making games! , i don’t care about a GoT show or Twisted Metal show (which i still think is a slap in the face) or discount for their movie app!
I Hope this isn't where that extra PS Plus money is going towards, this adds absolutely no value to me and most people. There's hundreds of ways to watch movies and shows at whatever price range you feel like (or don't feel like) paying 🤷
Nah,its rubbish ,if they want to compete with the multitude of other streaming services ,it needs improving and maybe included in a ps plus tier, it would help premium out a lot I feel.
@Juanalf im usually inclined to dont feel like paying, for movies at least😏
@TrickyDicky99 i'm getting it now 🤣
@liathach That worked perfectly, thank you
They missed a trick with this and PS Plus Premium.
Had they made all content free to Premium subs out would've been great value to the increased prices for the subscriptions, but 100 free items is terrible. Almost insulting.
@TechGuyChris All those Apps can be uploaded on your smart TV. Why waste power ķeeping your PS5 on?
@TechGuyChris nope. As soon as I’m done gaming my ps5 goes off and I go to bed lol. I don’t watch tv/Netflix or any of that crap tbh. Games is it for me
Not available in my region 🤨🤨🤨
@Exerion76 ah what I thought the image quality was the whole point of this thing! Was tempted to buy a movie on it to see since I downgraded my plus after the recent increase since I never used the extra stuff anyway, I’ll probably just uninstall this now cheers for the heads up
@TechGuyChris what's efficient about using a PS5 for Netflix or Hulu other than ease. It's not efficient energy wise when you can use the TV app or streaming box without the humming of the PS in the background. I never watch anything on the PS5 personally and predominantly use it for gaming as well
