Fans of discs, boxes, and the occasional manual, rejoice: Larian Studios is set to officially confirm a physical version for Baldur's Gate 3 this week. Having been teased by the studio's director of publishing Michael Douse, the official Twitter account for the developer said this is going to be a busy week for "fans of physical media" and Xbox owners. The tease heavily suggests an overall physical version for the RPG will be announced alongside an Xbox Series X|S release date.
Baldur's Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 have been two high-profile AAA releases without a physical version at launch, instead opting for a digital edition on the PS Store. The former now looks like it'll be stocked on store shelves and at online retailers, but there's no word out of Remedy about the possibility of its situation changing yet. The news was shared via a post highlighting the eight nominations the RPG has received at next month's The Game Awards. To see it, you'll need to click the "Show More" option on the tweet below.
Baldur's Gate 3 was one of a few PS5 titles to receive a rare 10/10 review score from us this year, as we considered it "one of the greatest RPGs of our time". It appears soon you'll be able to experience the masterpiece via a PS5 disc installed to your console. Have you been holding out for a physical version? Explain yourself in the comments below.

Fantastic news. For someone who has never played a game like this before, it gives me a chance to risk a purchase.
That's great news, was starting to wonder if it would remain digital only.
I've not been holding out for one, but if it exists by the time I get around to this game, then I think it's meant to be.
Great! And it’s not that every physical owner is “a fan of discs, boxes, and the occasional manual” buy the way (as I’m sure you know), it’s that we are fans of being able to sell on if we don’t like it or when finished. Or at the very least fans of being able to buy at a cheaper price.
Day One....This is amazing!
Evertime I saw an update on the game, I was wishing for physical.
If I'm paying full price for a game, I want something on my shelf.
I'll be there. Let's gooooo.
That's what I was waiting for! Can't wait to get my hands on this now!
I’ve been struggling to get on with this. A friend at work gave me some tips today though about strategies and things so I’m going to go back to it for the 86th time
All eyes are on you now Remedy........... maybe post DLC though if you've already waited this long.
If true, I’ll be buying it. I don’t know whether I’ll ultimately “click” with this kind of game, so if I don’t, having a disc version will at least allow me to sell it and recoup some of my costs. Plus, given the massive sales success this game seems to have already had, I imagine they easily could have forgone a physical version (like has been done with Alan Wake 2), so I also want to support their decision to nonetheless release a physical version.
I have never been a fan of a game like this but I am tempted. Is it worth it? I usually like single player open world RPG's but this is more turn based?
If it's February I'm going to cry.
I'm actually going to double dip.
Bought the game on PC the moment it came to early access and I'll buy the physical for PS5.
Definitely waiting for a physical purchase. I’ll be ready to preorder day one.

@cburg if you’re a fan of RPG’s you’ll love it.
Great, well written characters with interesting arcs. Lots of decisions and freedom that have real impacts. Interesting and fun freedom in
How you build characters, with easy ability to rebuild characters as often as you like.
The combat might take a little getting used to if you’ve not played D&D, but it’s not very complex. Once you learn “hiding good for sneak attack” and “using bow or using ranged magic right next to person bad” you’re golden.
Like Gremio said, if there's a physical version when I decide it's time to play BG3, then I'll probably go for it.
@Genocide3681 The Japanese release is heavily censored to comply with the region's guidelines. Maybe do your research before just dropping a link and pretending you've made a point.
@Geep Agreed. People flushing their property rights down the Swanny with digital only purchases is quite the happening - I love having zero equity in the things that I buy! I wish I was down with the kids.
It’s probably good in a way that the disc will have so many patches on it.
N.i.c.e. a lot of people are waiting for a physical copie of larian studio masterpiece Baldur's gate 3.word up son
So happy I held out for this. My patience finally paid off
Please come out this year. My sister in law is hard to buy for for Christmas and this will fit the bill perfectly
Preordering it as soon as it's available. There was no way I was going to spend over ÂŁ55 on a digital game.
I have been holding off but will give it a shot if it comes on disc
I was willing to wait for a year or longer to see if it was going to get a physical release. Pleased I waited…Hope it comes in a nice steel box with bells and whistles.
@Mikey856 Almost gave up on Divinity OS2 myself and I remembered it's RPG; meaning go elsewhere to level up, stock up on healing items and comeback to finish that mf. Now can't stop playing. Don't have BG3 tho, one day most def.
@Gaia093 Dont have to be a jerk.
@cburg I created an account just to respond to your post. I never liked turn based. I’ve tried D:OS 1 and 2, persona 5 and a few others. Couldn’t get into it. Got Covid around the time this came out so I figured I’d give it a shot and what I’ll tell you is it’s better than anything I could’ve imagined. I’m so hooked. I do use guides to help with my build because I’m still really raw when it comes to turn based but I can’t get enough of it.
Hooray! Looking forward to finally jumping in on this.
Great! Was waiting for it whole time. 🙂👍
Good! Alan Wake 2 next in an ideal world
I've held off for a physical release!
Great news. Can't wait to get it.
Now if we can just get Epic to announce a physical version of Alan Wake 2,.
great now I don't have an excuse not to buy it
Now we're talking. All up for a physical release. Might actually get around to buying the game.
This is the one game that’s released in the last few years imo that fully justifies the physical purchase even after I’ve bought it digital.
Huh I'll get to it eventually.
Hallelujah! I was waiting for this! Fun fact: Larian Studios is one of the sponsors of the basketball club I play for, and Swen is a player on one of the teams. He's not half bad at it either .
I wasn’t sure I’d like this game and was going to hold out for physical so I could sell it if it didn’t click. FOMO got the better of me and I took the plunge on release week. I regret nothing and it’s a game that will have a permanent spot on my hard drive along with Elden ring, bloodborne and Returnal.
@BardHard13 Awesome thank you and thank you for creating an account to respond! I think I am going to pick it up.
@Hyena_socks Great thank you
@thefourfoldroot1
This "selling on" is 90% of the reason they want to get rid of physical media. I personally don't care what people do with their physical copies but quit bragging in public spaces that this is why we like physical, it's adding fuel to the digital-only fire for these companies. I'm mostly kidding around with this post so don't take any personal offence.
@MikeOrator
Well, if you are correct (and I think you are) that this is the reason they want to get rid of physical ownership, then they obviously know already. Me saying, or even bragging about (which I wasn’t doing incidentally) this online isn’t really going to provide them some huge revelation.
No offence taken. I couldn’t take offence given your avatar anyway!
@thefourfoldroot1
It was very tongue in cheek. Corpos have already decided that pushing digital only is part of a short term strategy for them. Unfortunately this may be in less time than we think.
Great news. Been interested in getting Baldur’s gate 3 since the announcement trailer. Haven’t gotten round to getting it yet but if there’s a physical version coming out I’ll wait till then
