As promised, Capcom's Dragon's Dogma 2 showcase gave us two things: more gameplay footage and an official release date. The latter comes as no real surprise since the same date was leaked twice prior to this reveal, but just to make sure everyone knows, Dragon's Dogma 2 is launching for PS5 on the 22nd March. It adds to an already ridiculous early 2024 release schedule.
Meanwhile, the gameplay continues to look great. We get to see a brand new class in action — the Trickster — that utilises illusions and supportive spells to command the battlefield. Fresh enemies have also been introduced, including the gigantic Talos, which seems to feature in a key boss battle. You'll have to climb this thing and strike its weak points to bring it down, not unlike the colossi in Shadow of the Colossus.
How do you think Dragon's Dogma 2 is shaping up? Gather your pawns and begin adventuring in the comments section below.

Be still my beating heart!!! It looks better and better each time this is shown, 22nd March can’t come soon enough now!! I’ll be checking the import sites over the next few days incase there is a Collectors Edition released in Japan! Now that this is also almost done and dusted, I wonder if Hideaki Itsuno turns his attention to a possible Devil May Cry 6!? 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Can't wait! It's one of my most anticipated games in 2024.
I really need to play the first game bought it years ago for a fiver and only played it for about an hour.
Yup insane, the drake and headless wraith type enemy at the end, looked amazing! I'm playing Dark Arisen at the min, its just superb 👌
Definitely showed a bit better than previously. Still pretty dated looking visually and pretty drab voice acting and writing on display there. Music was on point though!
Hoping they at least improved the previous versions shortcomings like enemy variety, loot, as well as vastly improved UI, town, dungeon and world design. Too bad they didn't go with the latest version of the RE engine on this one. Is this cross gen?
Cautiously optimistic, although I think rose tinted glasses really overstate how good the first was. It had substantial shortcomings in several areas.
Visually, it looks very dated. I thought they were showing gameplay from the first game on PS4 when I watched this at first.
It looks amazing. I have the first game in my backlog, but I don’t think I’ll play it - I’ll just jump into the new one
I didn't see any collectors edition or physical options. Did they mention either?
I do not understand why they refuse to add coop play to this like Dark Souls
>But I liked the last one and it didn't!
So what? You can still play with pawns alone, I just want the choice to play with my friends!
@Genghis_Schlonng I'm hoping there's no CE tbh so I won't feel the need to buy it 🙃
But no, they didn't seem to mention anything about anything other than Standard and Deluxe, with no mention of physical from what I could tell.
(Fully expecting there to be a physical copy though.)
Fingers crossed, as I loved the original. But we have to admit it is lacking in the graphical department, as was the first one.
But when the first one surprised us and came out of nowhere, this one has to face heavy expectations. Too much expectations in my opinion, and I'm afraid people will be disappointed.
While the first one was a breath of fresh air in the ARPG genre, and had very fun fighting mechanics, it was graphically ugly in many places, and the story was uninteresting. If they do not improve on both front (and we've already seen the graphical part being lacking), this looks like another sad 7/10 for an overhyped game.
Let's hope I'm completely wrong!
As a big fan of the first DD, this is deffo landing in my PS5 day 1 alongside some annual leave 😍
I just don’t understand people saying the fidelity is an issue. Graphics definitely don’t make a great game. I loved the graphics of the first game and am glad to see this one doesn’t stray too far from that look.
@Olmaz You have a bit of a point. The main problem with the first DD imo is the pawns and they just went with it as a series feature. Having pawns means you don't have actual story characters as party members and that really hurts the storytelling. Not to mention the repetitiveness of these generic randomized characters.
So, i expect this one to be exactly more of the same. A world to explore with cool combat, gear and class development, but ultimately with weak story.
I do not think it will get 7's though and i think the graphics are perfectly fine. But it will likely stay on the 8's or 9's.
It can't ever get to excellence while pawns hamstring the storytelling.
I would like to see other things besides combat because that was the only thing the first had going for it everything else was mediocre to *****
N.i.c.e.Dragon dogma 2 looks amazing.the graphics looks excellent.and the magic looks incredible.dragon dogma dark arisen is one of the best games ever made and the magic is the best in any games i ever play.i play as a mage/sorcerer.and i would do the same in Dragon dogma 2.the boss fights in Dragon dogma is incredible and what i saw in Dragon dogma 2 boss fights looks incredible as well.dragon dogma is going to be a instant classic.word up son
@KundaliniRising333 that’s why I don’t get how the first has fans. Everything you said about the game was my thoughts like besides the combat and maybe the pawn system the game was freaking bad. Joke story, joke characters, joke towns and a world that was dangerous but absolutely dull as dishwater to explore with a horrible fast travel system.
@Shakybeeves I’m asking this seriously I’ve played the first and I would never call it superb so what besides the combat do you find superb.
Capcom has been one of my favourite developers in recent years and I couldn’t be more excited for DD2. Roll on March.
I'm going to need Robert to review this for pawn reasons.
Be amazing if they had some kinda anime collab with this one as well. The possibilities are endless.
I was so bummed when I read I couldn't get the Berserk armor sets in the Dark Arisen version 😭
@dark_knightmare2 Yeah, I have to agree with ya. It had an interesting gimmick with the climbing on enemy system, action style combat, and limb system. Aside from that though it was very underbaked and generic.
I still remember entering that big city only to realize it was basically empty aside from like 3 vendors and a few paths. The Story and side quests were awful. Exploration basically nonexistent in a very bland world and repetitive enemies. Don't' even get me started on that terrible UI. It reminded me of a clunky simplified piranha bytes rpg.
Now admittedly it did come out I think originally on the ps3 and Dark Arisen in 2013. So naturally that all seems dated now, but it really even seemed so then. The problem I have with the very brief glimpses we've seen of this game releasing in just a handful of months, is that it literally looks like the exact same game with slightly better graphics, some new enemies and a titan lol. There was a glimpse of the UI and what looked to be the same bland creme colored city in there for a split second too.
The last thing I want is those same shortcomings for the time (2013), once again doubled down on a decade later.
Kind of looks like a visual remaster to be honest.
Hope I'm wrong.
@Olmaz If there's one thing I couldnt care less for it is the graphical quality and especially this one where it looks decent enough. If it has a good art style like the souls games it's great.
Too many spoilers in that video, I wish I didn't see it.
@KundaliniRising333 it kind of does look like a dark arisen type of expansion instead of a full blown sequel
Looks alright, I'll have to see how it reviews. I didn't get far with the first, I found it pretty generic and boring and just gave up after a handful of hours.
Dragon dogma 2 is going to be amazing just like dragon dogma dark arisen.word up son
Dragon dogma 2 gameplay is amazing.the graphics looks incredible.and the magic and boss fights looks excellent.it will be a instant classic just like dragon dogma dark arisen.theres no game that have a better magic than dragon dogma dark arisen.playing as a mage/sorcerer is so fun and the best way to play dragon dogma dark arisen and when dragon dogma 2 comes.its going to be fun.word up son
This has just jumped to the top of my wish list. That path of the goddess looks good too
@LordAinsley I don't understand why people keep insisting that the game should have co-op, like okay, the game has parties and is open world, but that's not a requirement for co-op. The Witcher 3, the latest Final Fantasy games, and Zelda, all of them have open worlds and yet they don't have co-op. It just reminds me a lot of the audience asking for third-person perspective in Cyberpunk.
@dark_knightmare2 the game was great, better than Skyrim. We all have opinions, you don't have to understand them
@Ellmagron every cutscene and animation in cyberpunk is designed with the first person perspective in mind.
I wouldn't ask the same for Witcher, FF or Zelda.
This game seems explicitly designed around coop play that they forgot to add.
A similar example would be lies of ps spectre's
"WALKING BONES!"
Really looking forward to this sequel.
Original game killed two fat boy PS3s.
Looking forward to this melting the PS5.
@dark_knightmare2 It is of course entirely subjective and thus, I'm entitled to my opinion exempt of justification. Good day to you Sir 🧐
