Larian Studios is set to announce details surrounding the fifth substantial patch for Baldur's Gate 3 this week as well as new features coming to the PS5 RPG. A list of changes and tweaks will be provided when the update drops, but for now, we know it'll address slowdown introduced by the game's previous patch and kissing scenes involving Astarion.
In a follow-up tweet, the Belgian developer teases a community update also set for release this week will discuss "some new features" planned for the game. Since launch, updates have been restricted to bug fixes and improvements, with very little in the way of new content besides a mirror in your camp that lets you change your appearance. A permadeath mode may be one of those new features, as a GOG achievement hints at its eventual addition.
What sort of features do you hope get added to Baldur's Gate 3 in the future? Post your wishlist in the comments below.

Cross play being added would be nice.
Some features I would like in the future:
General bug fixes in act 3 would certainly be welcome but so far Iโve not had anything game breaking and an overall improvement of load times would lead me to experiment a bit more. That said I have happily played this game for nearly 140 hours without those features and will no doubt put 140 more in for a second play through. Bugs and minor annoyances havenโt stopped this being a 10/10 game of the year for me.
Please make Act III playable again on PS5!
After barely being able to finish the game on my first playthrough (the last hours of gameplay were filled by a lot of restarts to get in sync audio, bearable loading time and textures), after the last big patch, Act III is simply unplayable : characters freeze, actions take minutes to be registered, loading times get worse, textures (and even whole characters) don't load, it's a complete mess...
What a sad state for one of the most amazing games I've ever played!
Oh maybe I can play act 3 when this comes out. Currently unplayable right now
I was gonna buy this as my next game but I'll hold off for a little longer.
I've tried a few times with this game and I just can't figure out why it doesn't click with me.
All these patches just remove any desire for me to get the physical version.
I love the game. Came quite far. Then stopped to chip away at other corners of my gaming charter. And these updates are great. I love that my game improves as it waits for me. Would take a finished product with patches actually being new content but beggars can't be choosers.
@GeeEssEff Agree with all of that.
Act 3 is unplayable?? I've been happily playing act 3 for over a month now ๐
Liiiiiives, all mortal lives... Must mooooan ๐ฌ๐
Is joke. But apologies if some people's games are genuinely unplayable
@Nekomichu when you've tried beating ACT3? Finished BG a couple of weeks ago after spending something like a month in third act. Even when I blew up a couple of buildings there were just frame drops for a couple of seconds, nothing more.
@Ravix great song and a great moment though
@Tomato_Goose very much so๐ฅ
Other than a few textures and pop in, act 3 has been completely fine, and also rammed full of stuff to do. So it's weird to read that it's unplayable for some lol
@Ravix @Tomato_Goose I'm flabbergasted by what both of you are saying. Are you sure you're playing on PS5? Are you sure the game is updated?
There are enough reports on the net about the unplayable state of Act III on PS5 right now to know I'm not dreaming it. As I said, before the last big patch, it was playable. I finished the game with only a few framerate drops, some textures not loading and very heavy audio sync issues during the end mission, but it was still playable.
Right now, it's not. When every 10-15 minutes, my companions just freeze in place; when any action can cause the game to freeze for minutes; when loading times are getting multiple minutes-long; when textures, and sometimes even characters, don't load during cutscenes; when cutscene dialogues take time to appear, the game is not playable anymore.
And I'm not trying to bring down the game. It's my GOTY by far, I absolutely love it and consider it a major achievement in gaming. But I can criticize what should be, and right now, the game's Act III is not playable for me on PS5.
@Tomato_Goose @Ravix sadly for runs after patch 4 (like a 3 weeks ago) is currently unplayable, every time you speak with a NPC the game freezes like 10 to 50 seconds.
Only happens with Gameplays started with patch 4 seems
@Olmaz if you started your run before November 2 you are golden, after that date your gameplay is unplayable at act 3.
That's the reason some people is not understanding our pain
@Nekomichu Hmmm, so what matters is when you started the run? Ok, that makes sense.
Any source on that? And do you know if the devs are working on it?
@Olmaz you can go to the bg3 official forums and they are talking about it, there is some issue with patch 4 and people with the problen don't have it in old saves.
This week's patch it's going to fix it, sure, I hope....
They said "which fixes the eternally-active acts of thefts & violence causing slowdowns, introduced in the previous patch"
@Nekomichu Found it thx!
Here is the official explanation of the issue :
"In Patch 4 we introduced a fix that would prevent the Scrying Eyes in Moonrise Towers from immediately calling the guards on you when stealing, even if you were sneaking, or invisible for example.
This fix had the unintended consequence of causing unnoticed thefts & acts of vandalism to remain stuck forever within the โdid anyone see meโ pipeline, rather than timing out and moving on, as is intended. Essentially, your โDMโ - in a real-world sense - constantly thinks about the acts of theft & violence the player keeps doing, without ever moving on or verbalising them. Mulling on it ad infinitum.
These unnoticed and eternally-active acts of theft & violence eventually bogged down the game. The more a player commits those acts, the more the game is trying to keep that all up to date and in memory, and so the more slowdowns start happening. Essentially, the โDMโ eventually becomes unable to operate. By Act 3 this caused slow-down issues, which after some sleuthing weโre extremely happy to say weโve solved in Patch 5, which is in testing and scheduled to release this week."
What a weird thing, devs' job is a sisyphean task really! : ) But still, to let a game's whole act 3 unplayable for a month is not good...
@Nekomichu @olmaz oh, I've been playing since near release. I did mention it's only a joke and if people are having real issues then that is sad.
I can't believe anyone who started after Nov 2 could be in act 3 though, that must be lies ๐๐
@Ravix My first playthrough was 120 hours long at the end, but I can tell you a 2nd playthrough goes a lot faster now you know where to go and how to play best.... especially if you're doing it like me as an evil Dark Urge, where the best solution is (almost) always to kill everyone! : )
@Ravix I started Nov 5, currently 80h and I hit act 3 Saturday
That was very sad when I had to stop until they fixed it, without any Information
But Larians post today gave us hope haha
Played 150 hours to the finish and never once had a single issue in Act 3!
However Halfling monks cannot proc topple or stagger on flurry of blows with Open Hand subclass since day 1 so hey ho.
How about it addresses vital cut content like the ending? The game is obviously unfinished, got shipped anyway, then was sold on lies.
Yay more patches ๐๐๐๐
@Nekomichu wow, sad to hear that! Hope Larian will fix the issue asap.
People should be thrilled that Larian is patching as much as they are doing, not looking down on that. Every time you fix something in a computer/video game, there is a chance that you introduce some other issue. I tell folks in the code class that I teach that, "Coding is like building a card tower in a closet with the lights out. A small mistake, can cause everything (or many things) to topple." The folks at Larian have made one of the most complicated, interwoven, interactive, deep, games of all time. It is truly a wonder and from a technical viewpoint an incredible piece of work. For those that don't want to jump in now, then wait for way down the road when more patches are implemented. For everyone else, dive in. This game is superb.
