Update: Despite the official wording from the official Level-5 livestream, the delay to DECAPOLICE may not be quite as significant as first thought. The game's official Twitter account now claims the PS5, PS4 title has only been pushed back to 2024 instead of "post-2024", as was stated during the showcase.
"During LEVEL5 VISION 2023 II, we announced a change in the release date for DECAPOLICE to 2024. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. Thank you for your patience."
Original article: First announced to be releasing this at some point year, developer Level-5 has said it's delaying the promising detective RPG DECAPOLICE until at least 2025. The news was shared during the team's livestreamed Vision 2023 showcase, where a voiceover explained it wants to better the world and overall experience.
It said: "To ensure thorough development in both quality and quantity of content, we've decided to take a little more time. As far as Level-5 games go, this title possesses a vast open world of unprecedented size. We aim to build a dense and immersive world, filled with opportunities to play. Various incidents will occur in many different locations. And many of them are full of surprises. This is the kind of gameplay we're aiming for with Decapolice." It concluded: "The release of Decapolice will be moved to post-2024."
The delay means Decapolice will release for PS5, PS4 in 2025 at the earliest. How do you react to this news? Post your thoughts in the comments below.

They also have some hefty delays for their other games which were all originally planned for 2023, pretty obvious they are trying to do too much at once and spreading their teams thin. They would of been better off focussing on 1-2 games at a time.
That is quite the delay.
If it means a proper comeback for Level-5, I can wait.
In a way, I do think Decapolice looked too good to be true. I hope it doesn't reappear next year looking noticeably scaled back or anything. Just want Level-5 to be back to its best!
There is a translation error. It is delayed to 2024 not beyond.
I think the Switch 2 may factor somewhere into all this (the delayed Level-5 games are also coming to Switch). Releasing early on in the Switch 2's lifespan may give it an interest boost.
@ShogunRok rogue galaxy 2 would put them on top 😉😆
@Grumblevolcano This. I think Level 5’s partnership with Nintendo may be a factor for the delay, especially since Level 5 banks on a Nintendo heavy Japanese market. I’m sure there’s more work to do on the game too, but it seems some developers still have a strategic release schedule rather than a “we’re trying our best to rush this out the door at release for you” mindset.
It's releasing in 2024 according to the Decapolice twitter account.
Sister site Nintendo Life has a different take:

@Ralizah @rjejr The official livestream said "post-2024", no idea why they're putting out two different dates.
@Drago201 Hell yes!
Delaying until presumably 2024 isn't much of a surprise, as we were approaching the end of 2023 without a release date. The previous trailers have looked interesting, so I'm excited for this.
I don't really care about this game but I would love if they released the new Layton on Steam or PS4/5.
@LiamCroft Probably just a mistranslation during the livestream.
@belmont Probably timed exclusive. There's basically no reason to leave it on Switch forever, and the historical trend has been for third-party exclusives to be ported to other platforms over time.
As expected. Take your time with this one Level-5, I'm waiting.
Also yeah, the 'post-2024' is just a mistranslation in the video. The website and tweets have been updated to "Coming in 2024". I think they just meant latter half of 2024 or something like that.
@Ralizah Professor Layton is published by Nintendo and has never left a Nintendo system apart from a single mobile game why would they suddenly change that up now?
@JPEGMakima The Switch versions of a number of third-party games have been published by Nintendo without being permanently exclusive to the platform.
The industry trend this gen has been AWAY from platform exclusivity, with almost all-third party 'exclusives' not featuring licensed Nintendo characters appearing on other platforms eventually.
Previous Layton games were also designed around dual-screen handhelds, making porting a difficult prospect. The new Professor Layton game won't really work any differently on a Switch than it will on a PC or PS5.
@LiamCroft I'd guess "post 2024" meant "post January 1st, 2024". Why someone would say it that way I don't know but why do you call your elevators and apartments lifts and flats, they aren't shoes.😂
I was expecting this in 2024 so not surprised. There is plenty to be playing in early 2024 if you like Japanese games. Pretty stacked until April so I'd be good with a summer or winter release date.
Delay it all you want. Just make sure it's great when it launches and we're cool
