Our esteemed scribe Robert Ramsey wrote about the impact of PS1’s unmatchable catalogue of JRPGs earlier this month, and if that specific article spoke to you, here’s a game you probably should be paying attention to. Arisen Force: Vonimir is currently seeking a small amount of funding on Kickstarter, but is planned for PS5 and PS4 in 2025. Judging by the game’s crowd funding page, a lot of the release is already built, and the studio is planning to leverage the ~$15,000 of cash it’s seeking to flesh out the final product.
As you can see from the trailer, this has been heavily inspired by the 2.5D art style Square Enix has pioneered in critically acclaimed titles like Octopath Traveler. The blurb reads: “Arisen Force: Vonimir is an action RPG featuring exquisite high-definition pixels. It combines an engaging RPG adventure storyline with a stylish action-based combat experience. We have created a magnificent Middle-Earth world for the player to explore and go on an adventure, recruit teammates, collect and develop business, challenge enemies, reveal the secrets of the world, guide the future, and forge their own legend.”
There’s a demo already available on Steam, which is a little jankier than the screenshots may lead you to believe, but obviously the title’s still fairly early in development. It looks good overall, though, and certainly one to keep an eye on if you’re a fan of the JRPG genre.

Do like the look of the combat. Grew up with Nes, Snes etc and while I loved turn based then it tends to make me sleepy now that I am in my 40s.
Me: "Hey ChatGPT, I like Tales of Arise, Shining Force and Vesemir from the Witcher series. Now please give me a unique name for my game"
AI: "Arisen Force: Vonimir"
But a nice looking game, nonetheless.
I feel like PS5 owners who like JRPGs cannot physically keep an eye on anymore games.
Vonimir doesn’t look half bad tbh
@Ravensbane
I'm the same age. I just go and make a cuppa between turns!)
@Czar_Khastik I was thinking it sounded like Vonimir Pharmaceuticals entry into the men’s supplement market. Surely they could hire some retired athletes to promote it in a slightly uncomfortable way…
It looks fantastic, and I’m a sucker for these games since I grew up with the (S)NES, PS1 and what have you. That said, it doesn’t look as if it’s trying to tell a (well written) story. That might be a bit off putting for me — but gameplay is king at the end of the day, and combat looks really fun.
First thing I did was search "turn-based". Didn't find it so yeah, this is for me lol.
"I can't believe it's not HD-2D!"
I’m almost 100% certain that it will have a long and winding intro about war between nations that end with ‘-adia’
It have great charm. Count me in.
