Hoping amazon have this (UK) soon. I see AU does so hopefully soon.
Waiting for amazon to stock the Explore buds to use with Portal.
Christmas Day watching Christmas movies while playing Uncharted 4 at the same time plus the buds.
Can't wait.
@Shepherd_Tallon Smyths and Game have it up - hopefully won't be long now.
@Bio_Max Nice! Thanks for the shout.
I see them on Smyths now.
@Shepherd_Tallon No worries. I tried to pre order one on the Playstation direct store (using the link in this page) but it keeps saying something went wrong unfortunately. (was hoping to have that as an insurance policy!)
Is the Playstation Link the same USB with the current Pulse model?
I need reviews before committing to these or the Portal. I just dont trust the quality isnt going to be better than what I already got.
After playstation platinum headset, never ever will I buy another headphones that comes with Bluetooth adapter. Worst 160 euros I have spent back in the day.
Headphones is useless without the dongle and the dongle is massive in itself. Always taking usb port.
I will also never buy earbuds again from Sony too, I had one before earbuds like these even got popular. Officially licensed by Sony for very early PS4 days and battery held 4 hours. Just buy yourself a proper normal headphones that are actually designed with player in mind, like turtle beach or razer.. or just any proper music headphones that has Bluetooth.
@Bio_Max I'll grab them from Smyths for sure. I might wait to see what my Christmas bonus looks like first though... 🫠
I would like the Buds, but I am fully waiting on reviews for them at that asking price
Is the US page up yet?
@Shepherd_Tallon they're on amazon now!
@LordAinsley I'm doing the same. I bought the Pulse set on release and the earphones have completely perished (foam is hanging out). I too will wait for reviews on the headset and whether you can use it with the Pulse dongle.
@JB_Whiting yup, i got the foam issue too. Just one side so far but im sure the other will deteriorate soon.
Still works so its ugly and I dont need to upgrade, but if there is a good option maybe I'll bite!
@Bio_Max You're a legend! 🙏
Wait what is the USB adapter for? To plug into the ps5 why?
@Drago201 the headset and earbuds will come with one already, you just have to buy an extra one if you have a PC/Mac.
On why do you even need one for the PS5, PS5 doesn’t have straight up Bluetooth support, you gotta have an adapter.
@danzoEX oh ok thanks for the info 👍
@Drago201 The Playstation audio headsets are not operating over bluetooth. Instead they are using 2.4 GHz lossless wireless.
This is more similar to radio in terms of functionality and is not built directly into the PS5 and PS4.
The reason it's not bluetooth is probably mainly because bluetooth is SLOW. Even the latest versions of Bluetooth is slow in terms of latency.
Bluetooth is fine for video and music as these can be synced to compensate for the latency. (this is why you never notice lag or latency issues using bluetooth on your phone when watching video or music, the sync happens automatically in the background) However you can't do that with games without inventing a Time Machine that can peak into the future as you're gaming, we're simply not there yet (and we probably will never be)
Instead Sony went with a faster technology to greatly reduce latency, hence the adapter.
The less audio latency you have the better.
If you shoot a gun in the game, you want to hear the shot as close to immediately as possible right. If the sound of the gun is delayed even by half a second you will notice it and it could start throwing you off and take away the immersion.
This is where Bluetooth truly sucks.
However it's not the only reason, this 2.4 GHz wireless technology is lossless, meaning better audio quality.
Bluetooth on the other hand compress the audio to reduce the data it has to send to fit into the limited bandwidth and still be able to send enough data for buffering. on top of that the audio source might already be compressed. Lossy compression degrades audio quality. It's gotten better over the years, but bluetooth is still not recommended for a truly audiophile experience.
Some people might not be bothered with the audio latency of bluetooth but it often depends on the person and the type of game. It's like you may not be bothered with 30fps in a turn based RPG or a RTS game, but you would be bothered playing at 30 fps in a first person shooter.
So why don't all devices use this 2.4 GHz technology if it's so great?
Well unfortunately this 2.4 GHz tech is very sensitive to interference and obstructions. It works best in a room where the emitter and receiver has free line of sight.
It would not work well at all outdoors around other people using the same type of headset.
@danzoEX Not quite true, the controllers operate over bluetooth so the consoles have bluetooth built in. this it why you can sync the controllers to other bluetooth devices.
Read my previous post for why we have the adapters.
@DaniPooo good to know thanks for all the info 👍
