Insomniac Games is, in some ways, carrying Sony’s first-party this generation – and it may not be done just yet. Fresh from the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 just a few weeks ago, fans think they’ve discovered the release year of Marvel’s Wolverine: 2024. That would make back-to-back tentpole AAA titles from the Burbank studio.
The speculation comes courtesy of a concept artist’s Artstation profile, which doesn’t make it the most reliable source. However, industry commentator Jeff Grubb has speculated in the past that the anticipated exclusive may be targeting 2024 – although he suggested it could eventually be pushed into 2025. It certainly sounds like the studio could be aiming for a launch next year if possible.
Perhaps craziest of all is that this release year is feasible. Insomniac Games has two teams, and so the personnel behind titles like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been moved over to Marvel’s Wolverine. That means it’s already been working on the title in parallel with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Also of note is that the same resume mentions a 2025 target release date for Bend Studio’s next project. We know this won’t be a sequel to Days Gone, but will instead build upon the concepts explored in that game, and should be one to look forward to in the not-too distant future. Our biggest hope is that Sony comes out swinging soon and actually gives us a glimpse of what to expect from these titles.

Fall/Holiday 2024 sounds about right given the announcement timing. Sony announced both Spider-Man 2 for 2023 and Wolverine for TBA in the September 2021 Playstation Showcase. Given the PS5 era has generally been smaller gaps between announcement and release, 2024 seemed most likely.
It’s not coming out next year and articles like this annoy me.
Hopefully it’s not intended to carry the first party Sony release schedule next year like Spider-Man 2 was supposed to this year. I can’t remember another year where I felt like Sony had such a pale first party schedule and it felt like I was waiting all year for information on… anything else first party.
I think a 2024 release is a bit far fetched. If anything, next year there's gonna be a showcase. There's NOTHING about it...just a teaser. Zero marketing. I don't think this game's gonna be nearly ready to launch next year.
Oct/Nov 2024 is what i've been expecting.
They have two different studios and probably multiple teams in each studio as well. I think they are working on at least three projects if not more. Wolverine, a multiplayer project, and a smaller miles morales like project possible daredevil (i mean they already have the map of new York, so wouldn't be too difficult. Let's not forget they have experience in VR, so they could be working on VR games as well
@somnambulance really think they were planning to release factions this year before the delay and stellar blade was also supposed to release this year.
@Grumblevolcano just keep it away from GTA 6 , don't think any game will release near that.
The “plan” being 2024 makes the most sense based on the timing of the announcement, and the actual release date of 2025 makes the most sense based on the plan.
Did this article really get written 😂😂
Come on guys I know its a Sunday but you’re better than this, my god
If Jeff Grubb is going to make a prediction that safe and still give himself an out anyway, maybe we shouldn't take him so seriously l.
Wow, 2024 or 2025.... Impressive detective work Mr Grubb!
It is difficult to believe in a 2024 release since no gameplay trailer was shown. I think it will take a bit longer to finish its development.
@Craigybear91 Elaborate! It's Insomniac Games team of Miles Morales, which came out 2020. It'll be 4 years in development at that point. Could be possible.
Insomniac Games should take a year off. They embarrass their fellow Playstation studios. I'd be very happy getting Marvel's Wolverine in 2025.
@JAMes-BroWWWn it’s just we’ve only seen a teaser and 2024 is right here. I don’t see them doing a trailer, gameplay trailer, and a release date all the same in year. Especially with as big of success Spiderman 2 has been. I see them giving the two more space than a year.
Don't care when it releases 24 25 or 26 just give me brutal Wolverine slicing limbs everywhere and blood splattered walls and floors. Imagine if Insomniac can get Deadpool in the game or at least make a meaty appearance impact in some way, doubt it though
@Americansamurai1 We have no concrete details to support that Factions had any expectation of releasing this year or even next year. Also, while Stellar Blade is an exclusive to Sony and being published by them, it’s not being developed by the first party Sony Studios. There were reports that “several first party games” got pushed back this year before the Sony showcase to “bolster the 2024 release schedule,” but who knows? It’s not like much of anything in the Sony showcase was aimed at 2023, outside the third party multiplatform titles and Spider-Man. Concord is the only first party developed title that has a 2024 placeholder currently and we know next to nothing about it beyond it being a GAAS title.
Insomniac is cheating by not sleeping.
I mean that's great, but I'm really starting to think that Sony's first party 2024 PS5 release schedule is going to be nothing besides GAAS flops & a hastily put together TLOU Part 2 "remake".
Sony better have 2 other games that aren't Marvel releasing next year or I'm switching to PC. I'm not interested in Marvel titles, I'm interested in Sony titles. If I'm only getting Marvel titles, then I have no point in playing games on my PS5.
I believe it. Insomniac are freaking wizards
@somnambulance fair enough, at least 2023 was a good year for third party releases. Here's hoping we get more 1st party next year, with 19 studios you think we get at least 3 big titles.
I love Insomniac. They never miss. Sony, build them up to four teams, please!!!
@Craigybear91 I think the lack of a promo cycle is because of Spider-Man 2. By being silent on Wolverine until a certain time period after Spider-Man 2's launch, Spider-Man 2's sales increase.
So like the Game Awards or a PS event in November/early December would be a good place to showcase Wolverine. Then Sony would do their end of year blog post saying about how PS5 owners have lots to look forward to in 2024 like FFVII Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin, Death Stranding 2 and Wolverine.
hope they take some advice from web of shadows
@Americansamurai1 That’s all I’m hoping for, honestly. Well, I’m hoping for more than that, actually, since three games could be a line-up of Concord, Fairgame$, and Wolverine. Lol.
At the end of the day, all I ask for from the industry is ten 8/10+ tier games. That’s it. Sony is usually reliable for that, as is Nintendo. I’m just concerned because the best looking confirmed third party title between the big three is maybe Princess Peach Showtime at the moment.
@Craigybear91 Fair point. Providing more time to promote it properly makes sense.
@somnambulance we also have the potential for the new gow spinoff, the last of us part 2 remaster, and then 2nd party titles like helldivers2, stellar blade, and rise of Ronin, so it might be a pretty good year. Hopefully we get an early showcase that shows their next line up.
It's crazy how trash Sonys 1st party output has been outside of Insomniac. Its really bad when compared to last gen. With MS owning half the industry now its going to be rough in the next 5 to 10 years for Sony to hold onto the market with a measly 1 to 2 releases a year. Especially when the majority will be live service games.
2024: Wolverine. 2025: Random IP. 2025: Vemon/DLC??? 2026: Spider Man 2 PC
I would love to see Insomniac make some VR games. It non sense that Sony bought one of the best VR game makers on the market, and didn’t use them to make a launch title for PSVR2.
If Insomniac pull that out the bag for late 2024 after all they have released since the PS5 generation, we need to be asking what the other studios are doing.
One thing the game will have is regenerative healing cause that is Logan's mutant power.
2024/2025/2026 are going to be big years for ps5. i'm excited to see what they've been working on.
All other 1st party studios needs to adopt whatever management systems insomniac has like seriously
Thank god for insomniac. They are pulling the weight at playstation, especially now that naughty dog is in disarray.
@Americansamurai1 We don’t need a TLOU2 remaster. The game will be four years old next year… and it’s still nearly as modern as anything current gen, honestly. It feels like second party games will largely be what drives PS5 at the moment. For me, I’m really hoping Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin are up my alley, but i do feel first party Sony is lagging behind PS4’s output for sure, though I’m hoping to eat my words.
@somnambulance I agree, but the remaster isn't really for us, it's to tie in with the HBO series and PC.
@Americansamurai1 If that’s the crowd, we’ll see the remaster next year when season 2 comes out, which is fine by me. Maybe it’ll include Factions and actually be worth getting interested in though!
Can we not with "news" like this? I'm sure Insomniac are targeting next year. The key word there is TARGETING, as in "we would LIKE to have it release by___", which is decidedly not "it WILL released by ____".
So when/if they don't make it out next year, and some a**holes starts sending death threats to Insom employees for missing a date they never gave us, "news" like this is responsible for setting unrealistic expectations.
