SEGA perfected fare-based gameplay with its seminal Dreamcast hit Crazy Taxi, but Nacon’s attempt at the genre is a lot tamer in terms of action. However, there’s some impressive technology going into Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator, as it features a “large area of Barcelona reproduced at 1:1 scale”. The French firm hired developer Simteract to realise the rendition, as we reported last year.
Now the title’s got a February release window on the PS5, and it looks pretty cool if you can switch off your love of The Offspring and Bad Religion. You’ll need more than a Class D license to succeed here, as you’ll need to observe the rules of the road as your ferry your passengers from A-to-B. As you earn money, you’ll be able to reinvest into your fledgling taxi firm, hiring employees and assigning them districts and time slots.
Obviously this is a sim, and its realistic visuals and gameplay reflect that, but we reckon there is a market for a more down-to-earth take on the taxi genre, and with the realistic Barcelona-based city map, it should be fun simply exploring the open world.

I'd give it a go if it adds a VR mode. 🤔 Seems like it would be perfect for winding down with in the evenings.
Looks weirdly intriguing, I wonder if there’ll be sophisticated parkour and martial arts skill trees as you chase down fare dodgers or deal with difficult drunk customers.
This strangely more appealing than the crazy taxi rides of old to me now.
I'm interested in this and will be keeping my eyes open to see how it does!
These are the type of games Ubisoft should make considering their hard on for replicating laaarge parts of countries. Far better use in sim games rather than AC games.
This look relaxing...
You can't turn off a love of Bad Religion.
I'll wait for the cheaper version, Uber Life
An open world Barcelona?... reminds me of Wheelman on PS3. Good times!
This looks wonderful, hope it works well with a wheel!
This looks really cool. It reminds me of my attempts to drive like a normal person in GTA IV and GTA V in order to "blend in" and not act too suspiciously.
This actually looks pretty good. I wouldn’t go so far as saying I’m excited for it, but it’s definitely on my radar 🙂
Removed - disrespecting others
@MikeOrator where is the hate? Ubisoft make amazing huge worlds that would be perfect for the simulation genre rather than going to waste as AC games. Wash your eyes and remove the cynicism
@theMEGAniggle
But why make the effort just to call out Ubisoft in this case? Maybe Bethesda's world-building is better for sim games than boring American-style RPGs. It's your insinuation that these worlds are being "wasted" on the game that the world was built for.
"Can you open the window?" doesn't quite have the same ring to it as "take me to Tower Rekkerds!" does it?
I’m sure Barcelona is busier than in this game 😂
@MikeOrator have you ever heard of an observation? AC games are way too big and too detailed and after seeing this I made the suggestion that Ubisoft would put their worlds to better use in sim games than AC games where all that scale is being wasted as most AC fans want tighter knit games than the large sprawling worlds. What is the big deal
Looks like it might be fun.
@theMEGAniggle
"SOME AC fans want tighter-knit games".
There I fixed it for you. So ya have you ever heard of not using hyperbole?
Haters that get more traction on their LubeTube videos making negative clickbait want shorter AC games until they get one and then they hate that too. People should try not to let the last thing they hear about something form their opinions so easily.
Sure maybe Ubisoft could build great open worlds for a Taxi Simulator but that is not because the worlds they have built so far are "wasted" on anything.
@MikeOrator comments like these I just have to wonder, what did I say to make you so mad 😕
@Hyena_socks nearly fell off my chair reading this
