Update 2: Off the back of the entire thing leaking, Sony has officially announced The Last of Us Part II Remastered. As previously reported, it launches on the 19th January, and will feature graphical improvements, a brand new, roguelike survival mode, and the ability to explore some cut content.

But perhaps the most important piece of information is that if you own The Last of Us Part II on PS4, you'll be able to upgrade to the remaster for $10. This falls in line with Sony's previous upgrade paths for titles like Ghost of Tsushima. What's more, you can transfer your save data from the PS4 version.

Update: According to yet more leaks, The Last of Us Part II Remastered will launch on the 19th January, 2024. The date is included in a trailer that's been discovered through the PlayStation Network's backend. The trailer makes no mention of a PC version — just PS5.

Original Story: Following on from earlier reports that The Last of Us: Part II is almost certainly getting a PS5 remaster, the rumoured title has now leaked through the PlayStation Store (or more specifically, sites like PS Deals that utilise unpublicised data from the PlayStation Network).

Officially titled The Last of Us Part II Remastered, this PS5 re-release will boast "a host of graphical improvements", 4K resolution in Fidelity Mode, improved load times, and full DualSense controller functionality.

All the stuff you'd expect, then, but this remaster apparently takes things further. The product description describes 'No Return' — "a roguelike survival mode" in which "you choose your path through a series of randomized encounters".

It continues: "Play as a host of different unlockable characters, some never-before playable in The Last of Us franchise, each with unique gameplay traits. The variety of challenges feature different foes and memorable locations from throughout Part II, all culminating in tense boss battles." Given how good Part II's combat system is, this could be a really cool addition.

There's more, though. "Lost Levels" will also be included, allowing you to "explore early-development versions of three new levels not seen in the original". Loads of developer commentary is bundled in as well, and there's even a new "Guitar Free Play" mode where you can unlock additional instruments. Fair enough.

At the time of writing, the remaster doesn't have a set release date. It's possible (perhaps even probable) that we'll get one during The Game Awards next month.
