Today's the day for three new PS Plus Essential games to roll onto the base tier of Sony's subscription service, and they are available to download now across the UK and Europe. The USA will gain access later today, allowing the following to be downloaded:
- Mafia II: Definitive Edition (PS4) | Review
- Aliens: Fireteam Elite (PS5, PS4) | Review
- Dragon Ball: The Breakers (PS4) | Review
PS Plus Essential members have until the morning of Tuesday, 5th December 2023 to redeem them all. As long as you maintain an active membership, the PS5, PS4 titles in question will always be playable. We polled Push Square users over the weekend on this month's selection, and the results were less than positive. Nearly 50 per cent voted to say "it's a bad selection" while just 10 per cent of readers suggested they're happy with what's on offer.
Speaking critically, it's true this month's selection doesn't exactly compare to past efforts. While Mafia II is a great game, the PS4 Definitive Edition released in a poor state, and Dragon Ball: The Breakers wasn't well received by fans. Aliens: Fireteam Elite is said to be decent, but it appears PS Plus Essential subscribers expect better than that. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

Probably the worst selection this year.
The internet hate train ran HARD on this game. Undeservedly I'd say. I think it's pretty fun.
Taken as a free game Alien: Fireteam Elite can be an enjoyable time. Mafia II: Definitive Edition is a bad remaster of a good game.
It s pretty frustrating that games like Mafia 2 run 30fps only.
Really considering PC purchase - since this is purely devs' laziness ...
I'll try out the Aliens game but not a great month and Mafia 2 is one of the laziest remasters I've ever seen.
@Bentleyma I wouldn't call MAFIAII a bad remaster, at least the graphics is more consistent than III's vehicle textures. And I'd argue that those PS3/360 era graphics still look good looking cartoony somewhat. For example TLOU2 and TLOURemake realistic graphics look good but the PS3 Remaster still looks good too.
Looking forward to installing The Breakers. I mean, seriously, most months this year have been garbage for PS+ Essential. This will be the first essential title I’ll try in pretty much forever (anything else that could’ve been interesting this year, I’d already owned).
@TheArt Back when I played it, it was full of bugs and visual glitches.
@LifeGirl that was September with Saints Row, Black Desert and Generation Zero.
At least Mafia 2 is a classic.
@Bentleyma yikes! Now that's torture.
I may put a flyer in on mafia 2, but will probably skip the rest. Time to start another bg3 play through.
Add to library for the sake of it, and then ignore and forget I ever had them.
Doubt i'll even bother adding these to the library tbh
Was this release/version of Mafia 2 ever fixed?
I’m hoping for Christmas we get The Last of us part 1. It’s been out over a year now.
Will try Aliens since it's on the console that's only 3 years old instead of the one that's 10.
My last month as a subscriber because of the 35% price increase.
Also, Canada exists and will get these when "The USA will gain access later today".
@KundaliniRising333 I encountered a game breaking bug and I played it around half a year ago. I'm not so optimistic that it's fixed and working presently.
@Mythologue bummer. Having. Never played it, I was actually going to give it a go
@Nightcrawler71 No chance, no chance in hell (Mr. McMahon theme)
Another month, another poor selection of games not added to library...
I'm actually really looking forward to giving Aliens a try. I'm still having a blast with the Calypso protocol from last moth as well.
