And now you can breathe a sigh of relief: if the 2025 release window did not make it obvious enough, GTA 6 will be a current-gen-only game. It's not getting a PS4 version; the game is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. That also means it's not releasing on PC day and date with the console versions.
In a press release from Take-Two, it's said: "Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems in 2025."
Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser then adds: "Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere."
When we polled Push Square users on the possibility of a PS4 version, it was generally agreed GTA 6 likely wouldn't launch on Sony's old system. However, 26 per cent of you still returned a vote to say it would probably happen. PS5 users can now rest easy knowing GTA 6 won't have to accommodate for hardware released in 2013 — the same year GTA 5 released!

I gotta say the amount of pedestrians and nice big bottoms has me excited for this game. Was that all real in game footage?
This is 100% the right call.
When's the Wii U version releasing?
PS5, 200GB minimum, and enhanced for the PS5 PRO. I never thought or hoped it would also be on a PS4, even a PRO. My only concern was when will 6 release. Now, sadly, I know it's not 2024.
Fantastic to hear! 10 seconds into the trailer I was already thinking that yeah, this is definitely not releasing on PS4 lol. My god it looks densely populated and alive.
hell yeah let’s gooo
Kinda obvious, this year has seen many games be current gen only so it would be strange a 2025 AAA game be crossgen.
Looks like GTA6 can go all out then.
Im glad because tbh they should've skipped the ps3/360 when they released gta5
Maybe we should be worrying about the Series S also, y'know, holding things back. They're obviously aiming for PS5 & 6 double dipping.
Seems like that was a foregone conclusion given they are hoping for a 2025 release date.
That's great news and going by that trailer they will be using every inch of power these consoles have. I also know almost nothing about these new characters and I'm already invested in them somehow!
By 2025 i would hope most games are PS5 and Series only. I mean FIFA and Madden and things like that can hit PS4 and likely will. But most games especially ones with this type of hype need to be current gen only. I never thought it would be on PS4 and Xbox One due to all the effort they have said they put into the tech GTA 6 is using. PS5 Pro please be real, this game would look and run insane on it.
@danzoEX A part of me thinks it looks too good to be true, but then I think about RDR2 on PS4 and Xbox One. That game still looks great today.
That press release gave me more confidence. I know they can't wait to sell Shark Cards but they also know that none of that happens without a historically legendary single player story mode. All that combined with only having to worry about PS5 & Series, Rockstar WILL deliver!
the fact people are relieved about this says a whole lot about the first 3 years of this console cycle and "next gen gaming" huh? won't be surprised if rockstar is delaying gta vi into 2025 so that there is a larger install base to extract revenue from. chicken and egg situation, though, since gta vi would certainly push hardware sales in its own right. perhaps sony wants to release the ps5 pro day and date with gta vi as well?
The only thing releasing on PS4 in 2025 should be Just Dance. 😂
Not surprised about last generation. Always thought it would be a day one title for PS6 release, GTA6- PS6 made sense. So 2025 and Ps5 is a bit sooner than I expected.. but then there are always some excuses for delay
@Randinator123 Skip the platforms that was currently already on the market for that one that hadn't been released yet.
What about PS3??
Good. They needed to. Long overdue.
Seeing the trailer had me thinking "How can this run on the PS5!?" let alone the PS4! it's definitely going to be a 30fps title.
Rockstar don't do "in engine" trailers. So I firmly believe what we saw is typical of what we're going to be getting. Very excited.
Ah man I wanted to see PS4s explode.
This is absolutely the right thing to do.
I'd be saying the same even if the game was released this week but if it's only releasing in 2025 the PS5 will be roughly 5 years old by that point and the PS4 should be dead and buried
To be fair it should be dead and buried now with the 5 being 3 years old but that's an argument for another day
Yes please. No cross Gen bulsh.. here
Honestly, should be expected at this point. We're three years into the current gen.
It will still be ported to the next 2 generations of consoles before GTA7 is released in 2038
It's going to be day one for me but I do plan on getting it on PC as well but I hope there's cross progression for it.
Looks cool, as others have mentioned, within seconds you could tell this would struggle on PS4 without many compromises.
Hope it launches with a 60 option.
Which yes, would mean compromise. 🤭🤭
@TheArt for all series s lack of gpu grunt it has nearly the same cpu so the game shouldn't be held back at all just lower res
Definitely good new but it still baffles me that we should even be talking about this so far into a generation.
@Recover20 You definitely don't know that a ps5 pro is being worked on. 2024 release so I am sure 4k 60fps will be no issue. They won't develop a game that can't run on consoles. Ps5 is a beast already.
Good it's about time last gen gets left behind
@NoCode23 Not surprising, Rockstar generally reveals their games 18-24 months out. GTAV was revealed in 2011 and released in September 2013, RDR2 was revealed in 2016 and released in October 2018. I would peg GTAVI for end of summer/early fall 2025.
Looking forward to playing this on PS5pro.
